I totally understand that this is a strictly PvP game, but when did that come to mean no context, narrative, immersion at all? It seems like just one of a zillion games, where you shoot at people. And that's it. That's the whole game. How is it that people keep throwing money at this stuff?
This is what made me think I must be missing something. How can anyone call this ahead of it's time
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

I'm a long time Call of Duty player, CoD/UO, CoD 2, CoD 3 (console), CoD 4 but it stopped being cool after 4, World at War was OK but had its merits but MW2 ruined it and so did BLOPS and MW3 and from what I'm hearing BO2 isn't that great either. I'm done with CoD after WaW although I bought MW2 and hated the lobby system and bought BO1 because of "dedicated servers".

This is a very good FPS. And offering free client is genius idea. This encourages people to support PS2 even more. Hell i dropped in 20 bucks in cash shop just to offer my support.

Originally posted by TeknoBug A shooter is and always will be just a shooter. This is not a mmo or a sandbox many here claim it to be. Just a large map where only 10-15% of it is used. Player progession in this game is no different than in BF3. You kill someone, get xp, unlocks certs/weapons. BF3 has some pretty big maps. So is BF3 a mmo now? Lets see.... medic..... check assault..... check engineer....... check tanks........ check flying things......check Anything else to do than blow stuff up?.......... nope So just a shooter |

Originally posted by Whitebeards I agree I played around on the beta with Planetside 2 and it was actually a lot of fun. Not fun as in 'sandbox', or fun as in 'ground breaking', it was more like Quake on steroids, and a lot of fun as a big shooter-style game. If you're looking for anything more, in in-depth, this really isn't the game. But hey it's got a free client and you can get up and running shooting people really fast. And frankly it was pretty enjoyable... :)

Sigh.. here we go again. MMO purists trying to define what MMO is even though over the years MMOS have intergreted themselves with all other genres and have become more of a hybrid. PS2 is a MMOFPS, it is not just called a shooter or a MMO but mixture of both. |

I just had a great time. I jumped into an apc with 6 other random dudes and we went around and fought for almost 2 hours capping stuff and getting in few nice fights.
The fps was fine for me and we had some heavy action a few times with 20 or so people fighting it out, a couple of tanks and apcs, and aircraft. I didn't have any lag or stuttering. I'm in Asia playing on a US west server. |

MMOFPS isn't new, WW2online and Planetside were MMOFPS and are older than PS2. |

Originally posted by Whitebeards No one said this wasnt a MMO. This isnt a mmoRPG however. This is a mmofps, like any other shooter game with a large persistant world. Yes this game lacks dephth and is very short on progression.
Of course, its a new free game, its going to be the best game ever for a few weeks. Once people get tired of flipping bases over and over and over again with no real purpose or dephth behind it, and no real objective other than the short term "get kills flip base" this game isnt going to appeal to people who are looking for a FPSRPG...at least not in the long run.
Also, per the thread title, this game is in no way ahead of its time. Whats next? Are we going to say its innovative and groundbreaking? Its a FPS in a persistant world. Make a thread like this when a game actually does something unique. Base flipping isnt unique and there isnt much else going on here.

Originally posted by Whitebeards No one is saying here that it's not a MMO. There is just no depth. There is no point in capturing bases nor defending it. There are no resources to control. Nothing that helps your faction in any way. There is no reason to subscribe. There is no reason to buy anything in the store. This game just doesn't have any long lasting appeal. It's fun for a while and right now I enjoy it. But I know it won't last long and flipping bases is going to become a pointless, tedious borefest sooner than later. It's just such a shame. As they could have done so much more with this game. Like I said earlier. They should have taken the Dune / warcraft / starcraft / C&C series approach. Have us, factions, fight over resources. Give us a reason to capture that base and defend it with our very last breath!

Originally posted by rendus What resources?? There are no resources, nor factories to process them and manufacture into something. Or do you mean the 2 stupid little resource bars for your character to be able to deploy a vehicle? That is more like currency. |

Originally posted by JeroKane Obviously you don't play. If you did you would have known that those gigantic facilities scattered all over each continent is mass producing VALUBLE resources for land and air vehicles, as well as infantry supplies for those that contol them. Without them your empire would be pulverized and send you packing for your warpgate.
On topic: The engine that PS2 is running on is ahead of most hardware, not sure about ahead of it's time. It is clear there is a lot more to be improved. Atleast it is completely free so comming back when more sandboxy stuff is added is nice. |

You're not paying attention or not playing, resources are a big deal in PS2, think of it as an interlink facility in PS1- without it, you can't spawn half the vehicles. |

Originally posted by mmoguy43 You can easily fill up your resource bars by go to the respective areas and start killing people. Earn XP in process and fill up your bars quickly. Is what I did yesterday. It's basically what people are doing right now. Just flipping bases, to quickly gain XP, certs and fill up your resource bars. It's really too simplified to have any real meaning. :-( Factions shouldn't have any resources at all to begin with. It's much more interesting having to deploy harvesters and really harvest resources to supply your faction with, to be actually able to build base components, defense system components, vehicles, etc. Like how you did in Dune, C&C, etc. This would have made the game much more interesting, as harvesters would be prime targets by other factions and you would have to defend them during harvesting and hauling back the resources to process facilities. Bases in those areas would then also be much more interesting to capture, expand and enhance with better defense systems, etc to hold off enemies from your precious resource areas. It really forces people to work together as a whole faction, because if not... you won't gather any resources, facilities running dry and you basically would not have any vehicles, aircraft, tanks, etc at your disposal. Basically like how EVE Online works in a way and in some way also DAoC.

Horrible game. Period. There's nothing MMORPG about it, so I have no idea why it's even on this site. All I see is a stupid game for FPS kids (as in babies, children, 12 year olds) that don't have the attention span to play a real game. I tried it, hated the FPS mechanics, the lagging engine, the crappy UI, the horribad map system. Isn't there an FPS site that you clowns and COD fanboys can populate? Please drag this rancid corpse of a game with you. Ithankyou.
