I purchased, but I don't care anymore. The only reason I would return is to help a friend finish the storyline. This F2P model is really just a trap to grab 1-2 months pay out of subscribers :) Can hardly do anything as is. If anyone is upset over $, it may be original purchase/box price versus playing F2P then just getting a subscription, I don't know if one skips original price doing that or not. Either way, the F2P model is a poor one and not very true to the name. |

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias. |

People upset who bought the game and disliked it more so then ones who bought it and still play it. For them I can see some annoyance (basically making you pay money to get some perks it might offer) or possibly gold spammers but over-all not that much to dislike.

Originally posted by Robokapp Well, now you can in effect buy credits. You plunk down obscene ammounts of real money to buy cartel coins, then buy lock boxes, wait three days and sell the loot on the GTN for credits. Also, their Legacy system's huge moneysink of credits can now be purchased instantly with real money via cartel coins. So....it's not Pay to WIn, but a lot like Pay to get a big leg up on everyone else? tl;dr: The ingame economy is borked. |

Not everyone who purchased the game is upset about F2P but upset about something completely different.

Amazingly there are still people who think F2P means that the game is completely free. I think we all need to realize that F2P is great for casual players, but for everyone else it is a great way to try out the game or in the case of Tor a great way to bring your alts up to max level. The only think I am worried about being a preferred player is the reduced exp-as that could throw off the balance of the game

Didnt read the whole thread but this is my take on it. When i saw that i had to SUB to get the Cartel coins from my previous subs + CE purchase I was speechless, I am entitled to that. I payed 150$ + 2 months for a failure of a themepark mmo. Its alo that returnign players have essentially the same restrictions that a f2p player has. I mean a hotbar limit of 2??!?!?!?!?!?! Aion does free to play right. I mean look at it, aion is incredibly successful as F2P and it offers fluff items in its store last i looked.

I do not think TOR is a "free trial extended" game, that type of game would be Tera or AOC. The people who will play and enjoy TOR play it for the story and production values not to level super fast. For some people just buying a few items in the cartel shop will be enough for others they will sub , but the people who will enjoy the game like story, production and animations etc |

Well, everyone who purchased the game isn't upset at the F2P of the game. Some of us are pretty OK with getting free character story content. Join the League For Gamers. |

I will say this. Kudos to EAWare for making the class story content free. But the hotbar limit is truly outrageous. People say 2 is more then enough to do the whole story. I remember doing my IA story and i needed FOUR just to fit all my skills, consumables, mounts, ect ect. I honestly cant believe they are restricting UI elements such as hide helment....

Originally posted by Onomas What I don't get is that how people thought it would be a Epic MMO. Honostly everything I read beta/release, official and none official site's. Everything told me it was never really going to be a MMORPG atleast not in the way I invision a MMORPG to be, but I have always thought it would be a decent co-op online game set in the KOTOR Star Wars Universe. I read so much about story this and story that in SWTOR that I was certain it wasn't a MMORPG I was looking for even though I am a Star Wars fan I am also a MMORPG fan and just expect way more then what SWTOR/Bioware promised before release. Prime reason I never bought the game at release. FTP till 15 was a few weeks in and I decided to give the game a run, I actually enjoyed the game, again not as a MMORPG but pure as a co-op online game. Everything I expected was there to play. Mind you I aint into PVP so can't comment on that. But the complaints I hear/read are often the loudest complainst across most MMORPG. Saw the game at a gamestore's bargin bin, decided to buy the game and even took a timegamecard with it cause those 15 lvl's entertained me. So for me personaly the game fails hard as a MMORPG, but as a game "game" it's fun to play. Thankfully I have plenty of other games to play often in different game genre's then MMORPG that also satisfieds certain gaming needs. Unfortunaly my true MMORPG needs have not been met since SWG.... |

OP
Because if you bought the game and subscribed, you received nothing - unless you subscribe again. I'm taking a shot of vodka every time I see a reference to a game being a WoW or Diablo clone. |

Originally posted by lizardbones F2P in SWTOR only gets you 2 char slots, and can not even buy more slots, so can not get more story The only way to get more than 2 character slots is to sub, which makes F2P worthless. It is not worth playing the game as F2P until you can at least unlock more slots. It would also be good for subbers to unlock 4 more slots too. SWTORs F2P is the stupidest F2P of them all Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012 |

Since you have not played the game yet, I will offer my opinion on the state of the game ( I bought it at release). The game did a decent job with the personal story quests, which was the majority of what they showcased before launch. However, there were a significant amount of other problems that caused the mass exodus out the door. I will list the problems I had with it below but since it is my opinion, take it for what it's worth. 1. Environment is lifeless and restricted. If you decide to go exploring, there isn't many places you can go that is not the road to the next levelling area. Not a lot of ceatures, and the NPCs usually just stand still and wait for you to attack them. There aren't many extra sounds either. If you are an explorer typem stay away from this game because there is only just enough content surrounding your feet to get you to the next zone.
3. Questing is very linear, and there isn't much reason to return to most zones on a particular toon, once you levelled up. Basically, you consume content in the usual ways in an area and then you are sent "down the road" to the next zone. Rinse and repeat. You will sometimes be sent to another world for a particular level range but the pattern is still the same.
4. Graphics engine is poor by modern standards. I didn't mind the graphics too much, once I learned how to tweak the ini files to get better performance, but doing so really throttled my high-end machine. And the default settings were just too old for me.
5. Pvp was eSport that had its own grind. The classes were not balanced at launch (which is always a tough one to get right).
6. Too many bugs to mention here. I hate to be general but there were so many and in so many areas that the subject would need its own post.
7. No replayability with a toon once it reached max level. Unless you like random arenas for pvp gear grindign, or maybe hunting the datacrons, the only thing left to do is start over with a new toon. That got boring quick because even though you get a new story, it's still int he same zones.
I've only mentioned the negative here for you, and to be fair, there are some positives. But I wanted you to see what I call the "worse case" so you can understand why people are upset that BW decided on a restrictive p2p scheme instead of fixing the issues listed. |

Originally posted by superniceguy Yep that is where EA lost me for good. Only 2 character slots, I am like wth. This model is not going to bring players into the folks it is going to chase them off. I looked at torstatus net and only seen an uptake of .45 today. Yep I think they made some bad mistakes with this pay to play model, I want even call it free, other than to log in on 2 characters. |
