First, I've been reading that thread, on-and-off for months as the thread is TWO MONTHS LONG. The way this is presented, you'd think it'd happened over-night.
Second, botting is not the primary ban reason in that thread. If you actually read the thread, it seems that most of those bans are for fraudulent/failed purchases and not accidental botting bans. And where '4,000' came from... As far as I can see, someone's pulling things out of his butt, but maybe it's in there.
So, two things. First, don't be 'clever' and buy the game, get the code, then reverse the charges. That's a crime and they'll (eventually because it takes time for the reversals to process through the system) ban your account. Plus they WILL NOT UNBAN THAT ACCOUNT. You'll have to start over.
Second, make sure your CC Company doesn't generate an automatic fraud-alert/stop-payment on your purchase. I know CitiCorp, my card issuer, almost always runs a fraud alert on on-line game purchases for MMOs and has, in the past, stopped payment without my permission. So, now I call the fraud department every time I make a purchase from SoE, ANet, or whatever MMO to clear the alert.
(BTW, the reason is, for those who don't know, gold sellars used stolen CC #'s (or yours if you're stupid enough to buy gold from criminals) to buy access to games for botting purposes. CitiCorp isn't being stupid, they know the issue and work hard to prevent the fraud. But that means I, on occassion, am inconvienced by these anti-fraud provisions. This is part of modern gaming life and not the MMOs fault.) |

In real life law and justice, I subscribe to Maimonides' principle that "it is better and more satisfactory to acquit a thousand guilty persons than to put a single innocent one to death."

This thread reminded me, I'm almost out of tinfoil... certainly not enough to make a hat. Must go shopping.

Or are you just stupid and felt like throwing sand at a sand crab.

hehe, I guess I, of all people, are part of this massive wave of people who got banned. I certainly doubt it is as bad as OP indicates, but since I don't have access to the forums currently I can not make a comment on it. :P My account was apparently permanently terminated for gold selling. I'm not sure how in any way this could've happened since I've now confirmed no one has logged in or attempted to log in from any location other than this one, I've never received even a single bit of GW2 spam/phishing attempts, and no indication whatsoeveer that the account was compromised. Also, there was no warning, suspensions, or emails sent explaining an impending ban. This was clearly a mistake on Anet's part and I only fault them for the mistake happening. I won't jump to any conclusions that they're suddenly incompetent or trying to get people to pay for the game again like some people might like to believe... Also, there's no way they legit thought I was a bot or gold selling because, not only have a never interacted with or transacted with more than 6 gold EVER and that was to buy gems, I was in the middle of WvW actively runnign around, talking in map chat, and buying upgrades for Hills Keep. We're fighting against TC and Yak's in Tier 3 and that stuff was getting intense. -shrug- I guess I'll just wait for the problem to resolve itself. In the meanwhile, I was reading things like this to make me more assured my issue would get solved. Sucks that it happened but hopefully I can get over it. lol |

Originally posted by Epic1oots Ive considered the game due to good WvW info the best clone of Dark Age of Camelot. in my stupid mind i thought this could be close to what i want from DaoC 2...but...WvW is not what ive expected.
Maps are small. EB has to be 3 times so the zerg should be useless. Borderlands must be the size of what 2 x EB in present. They had nothing in mind about strategy in WvW. Its all about zerg vs zerg. Since ANet did not want to make the maps bigger so there wont be a zerg.....now every1 fights vs doors or vs zergs. Good game! |

Originally posted by rykim86 What you got wrong is that legal does not necessarily mean right. I don't wanna get too philosphic. Let's just say that, regardless what the EULA says (something that pretty much nobody reads anyway), there are some things that you should not do to your customers. One of the reasons for not doing such things is also a managing one. It's plain marketing. You don't want to build a bad reputation becouse it takes a lot to build a good one and even more to recover it if you happen to loose it. So, when it's banning time, you want to be careful. Anet did a good job dealing with the bots, and it was a good move, but you still need to be careful with the ban hammer when your game is in such a hot spot as GW2. The whiners and the rioters you mention happen to have something in common. Both are quite upset about how things are turning out. But I don't want to get into politics either. It's just that some people are tired and disappointed with the present MMO panorama, GW2 is the game that everybody is talking about, you make a mistake and your last good move is quickly forgotten. And that has got nothing to do with EULAS. |

Originally posted by Hefaistos Just curious why you would start a thread and voice your main concern and then go off your own subject to start bashing the game. Your topic had a good issue surronding it but your next message had the same old crap that is in every other post about GW2. As far as bots are concerned, they are in every game and innocent people do get caught up in them occasionally. Like someone else said, don't play like a bot and you are fine. NEXT! Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

The last mistake ANet did is some accounts were turned manually or automatically into Grace Period Ended accounts. Its like you used your preorder key and you now how to use another key to activate your account. How can they do that? I dont know but some players are facing this problems. Wierd world broz!
ANet really wants your money. This error is back! :(

Originally posted by Hefaistos There comes the time when everyone has the same amount of people and the only way to win is with clever tactics, plenty of videos in youtube with reputable guilds that do this to prove it. If you wana zerg you are gona zerg if you want to use strategy you can, the tools are there for you to use them. |

GW2 is getting too popular for the masses. People think that they won't get caught exploiting the game. You got what you deserved! I am playing with my guild, no one got banned. Actually, we reported many of these losers!!

Originally posted by Hefaistos Ok, now it's clearer. At first I thought this was a thread from someone concerned about innocent players banned, but really it's just another one of those weird threads from someone who quit an MMO and now needs to validate his decision by convincing others the game or the developers are bad. You should be clearer earlier on with this stuff, Hef. filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community. Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |
Originally posted by Loktofeit So, i quit the game 1 month ago, wait 1 month and then return to trash talk some company for nothing ? Guess again, i never had in mind....i just dont agree with their Decisions and Mistakes! Ive bought and quit many games but i havent seen mistakes like this never ever! Next you will tell me that ive waited this for 8 years (since ive registered). As you could see, i was reading the forum for 8 years. I have 29 posts in 2012. That makes me a good reader not trash talker. And i dont need to validate a decision ive made 1 month ago. I take good time thinking if i want to spend more time playing a game, if its fun, bla bla. And for the record, ANet is great, people there must be great, the game is great, the CSR/Devs are great but THEY ARE MAKING STUPID MISTAKES with their customers. |

Originally posted by GreenishBlue Thanks for telling me I deserved to get my account permanently terminated for gold selling which I didn't do at all, or even remotely appear to be doing. I didn't even get a warning or email, and no other location has logged into my account according to the website security feature. Thank you for being considerate about the innocent players who actually did get caught up in this. ._. |

Originally posted by Amjoco Stuff like this is actually starting to piss me off because I didn't "play like a bot" and I wasn't gold selling. My account never even had more than 6 gold at most yet my account has been permanently terminated. Like, I understand the OP is blowing it out of proportions but you guys aren't giving any consideration to the players who actually did get caught up in this... I've been waiting 11 hours now since I initially got banned and no response from ArenaNet. :/ |

Its sad, but detection software isn't prefect. I hope any person who got caught and is innocent gets their account back sooner than later. However I am still very happy that Anet did this. As far as the OP goes... He is a troll. He bashes the game, offers no proof to his claims or otherwise brings anything to the discussion. |
