Aventurine has released a new video featuring a look at the Darkfall: Unholy Wars Fire School and, in particular, the Elementalist role within. As expected, the Fire Mage is a long range damage dealer. See what you think! Thanks, Paragus, for the tip! Associate Editor: MMORPG.com |

Dragonbreath looks sort of....underwhelming. But I'm looking forward to the future PvP videos with hordes of people flying all over the place due to fireballs and magma bombs :P. I wanted to type something really smart as a reply to this subject, but the Scarlet Blade ad got me distracted and I forgot what I wanted to type. |

The knockbacks are ok since it takes certain role specialisations to use them. The two problems in the original game were that every single player had acces to every spell (unless they played destroyer), and that the "knockbacks" were in fact knockups.
I do notice an ability delay in there, which is especially clear with the dragonsbreath part of the video, between the casting animation and spells actually landing is a very noticable delay. Perhaps this is the reason the game's release got pushed back, it looks like a serious issue. Either that, or the testing server has limited hardware or is located outside europe. |

Originally posted by Ecoces Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking... So far, this game have way too many knockbacks and this have me worried. Imagine large scale battles where everyone get knockback all the time. Imagine sieging a castle where you get throw out of it because of those dumb knockback effect that throws you in the air a couple of meters while going backward. Imagine fighting near some lava, where players can just knockback you in the lava non stop. IMO, something more along the lines of the blowout effect in GW2 would be 100x better. These knockback effects are just ridiculous if you ask me. Hope it doesn't turn out the way I think it will. |

I think this video looked amazing and the commentary is very much appreciated. To people complaining about knockbacks - if you notice in the video the knockbacks are actually knocking BACK and not UP like in Darkfall 1.0. On top of that, they seem to be relatively minor compared to 1.0. Finally, at 1:45 you can see two people getting hit by Heat Stroke and the character on the left wearing heavy armor gets knocked back much less than the guy to the right. Anyone else think they may have (hopefully) attributed armor weight to the ability to knockback? |

Originally posted by SirFubar I would suggest that it is probably going to be far less of an issue than you think due to the fact that people in DF have to aim and move about constantly. Unlike in other mmos.
You may get knocked back from cross fire or otherwise taken by surprise from time to time, but you probably really should not be in constant knockback unless you are doing something badly wrong or are massively outnumbered (in which case KB is going to be the least of your worries).
Time will tell though. |

They specifically said that spell schools will focus on different things, and not all will have knockback.
So, makes sense that fire is the knockback school, considering it was in DF1. |

I've watched the video about 10 times now and paid specific attention to the Fire Mages damage and knockbacks It is VERY obvious that the point of the Fire Mage is for its knockback/CC focus and not its damage. Compared to damging spells in other videos we've seen these fire spells do significantly less damange (between 10 and 20) but do offer good CC. Also, it appears that people in heavier armor take less of a knockback. They've also added buffs that make you immune to knockbacks from certain schools. AV actually thought this through. Now that first person is confirmed I am extremely excited for the game. |

Sounds like we have a couple of very nervous trolls showing up, I'll take that as a good sign. Happy that first person has now been confirmed, this will be fun.

Originally posted by Kasmos Euh I guess you didn't look at 1:20 carefully. Go ahead and check it back. Because you clearly see the player that being knockback from Magma Bomb going up and backward. It was the same thing when they introduced the Bareserk with the Stomp skill. But sure, they might be minor compared to DF 1.0, haven't play enough to judge. I just don't like this mechanic at all. A blowout mechanic a la GW2 would be so much better. |
