I don't think there's much chance of it happening.

Your more likely to get a mmo based on WHFB source - e.g. elric (and some if his other incarnations), runequest, farad & grey mouser

Okay, perhaps I misspoke on that, but the only other game I know of from Mythic is the one the developers said they took RvR from, which is DAoC, and I've seen enough games put out by same developers that were pretty much clones for WoW and their other games. That is where I derived my apparently mistaken comparison from.

[quote]EDIT: Only thing I would like to add is that GW is really picky about who can use their IP. Here is a Trailer for Warhammer the MMO from Climax BEFORE GW backed out of the deal and sold it to Mythic which then turned into WAR. That was the Warhammer game I wanted; it was most like the RPG, from what I was able to see, and this other crap, by Mythic, is just the worst tripe.[/b]

What do you mean?  Was there another 40k in development before the one that just released 9 new images yesterday?  I'm extremely surprised WAR was made/released, as well; it has little to do with the Warhammer universe.

The Warhammer 40k mmo is no longer an MMO.

With THQ in Default for $50 million, the Warhammer 40k MMO is no longer a game.

Okay, fella's, that's all good and fine and dandy... why did they post 9 new images day-before-yesterday? What did they do, post the images, and then declare bankruptcy? You guys are not making any sense to me; however, it's not like I care about 40k, anyway. I love WFRP, but not WFB or 40k; weird, huh?

The THQ WH40K MMO was scrapped ages ago.

Please provide a link to these 9 new images.

I'm curious as heck as well. Sure it wasn't DoW3 (Assuming that's even being worked on still)?

Feel like trying Planetside 2? Get a headstart with the starter kit!

That's really odd.  Now I can't find them.  All I can say is, it must have been an echo, except I remember looking at the images.  Now, I can't find them in email, can't find them in my history, and I can't find them by searching.

If 40k is dead, then 40k is dead.  And, to that I would add, I wish people would have their ducks in a row before attempting to get into building an MMORPG.  That way, there would be far less anxiety for titles of interest, and titles I would really love to play.

I wonder if anyone else received the referent email I did, and then had it disappear on them, as well?

Okay, so, getting away from 40k, which I have never liked, anyway, what would people like to see, specifically, if a new WFRP MMORPG were announced?

imo the best way to do a 40K MMO is to make it similar to Planetside 2 the style just feels right for 40k.

Not 40k, Twilight, the real Warhammer.

Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play.  Warhammer 40k is science fantasy, I'm talking the fantasy version only, which Warhammer Age of Reckoning is SUPPOSED to be based in.

Freeloading mooches are the scourge of the gaming community.

Honestly, while I would love to see a 40k MMO. I believe the only way you do it is if it was a squad based MMORTS. If you wanted to have races other than marines. As a single player MMORPG. IT would need to be something  based off like Deathwatch, and be more PVE oriented, where the players could make a member of a deathwatch strike team and be from different Chapters working together to kill xenos scum. A 3rd/1st person shooter action hybrid.

I mean let's face it. If your going to let people play like a guardsan. The player would have to be a pet class with 10 guardsmen pets  to equal 1 marine player. Otherwise you end up destroying the feeling of the universe. HA look my guardsmen just bitchslapped your space wolf  in one on one PvP. At that moment I would uninstall the game.

As for WAR. I enjoyed the game for 40 levels. However I got to max level and was gimped due to being a 60PVE /40 PVP person. Which meant I would always be behind everyone else in both gear and reknown... They needed to add something equivalent to re known for PVE

na, i disagree on that one. an ultramarine should NOT be played 1st person.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread its just that I am just very curious who is currently owning the the rights to make a warhammer mmo? From what I've read SEGA/Creative assembly owns warhammer fantasy rights, but does that include the right to make a mmo? This link says all(with capital letters) warhammer licences are owned by SEGA so it would be obvious, but I have no idea...

I've done some googling, ofc, but didnt come up with anything new, and I feel that its about time we have some news on a new warhammer fantasy mmorpg, if there is one in the making or not and what to expect in the future.

All rumors, link and thoughts are welcome :)

Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone!

In that case, i don't think a new Warhammer game is needed, there are just so many fantasy games now. A new Warhammer 40K game, OTOH, may be interesting.

Sadly any Warhammer 40k MMO would probably have to take place on a fresh newly colonized planet or something.  One which takes place in the more ubiquitous (and representative of the franchise, IMHO) setting of a WH40k hive world would have to simulate hive CITIES that are like, hundreds of stories tall and continent sized while being filled to the brim with billions upon billions of people in layers, and Warhammer 40k is a galaxy where there are hundreds of thousands of planets like that that have MULTIPLES of those monstrosities.

This is a setting where all the death and fighting in World War 2 is like, one hour's worth of fighting in a given battle in one of the many hundreds of thousands of war campaigns going on in the galaxy.

Hell, I'd adore a WH40k MMO that also had places that were in the mind-exploding escher-esque webway or warp or daemon planet too.  Alas, I don't think technology will advance that far before I die of old age.

Or .. don't make a MMO and make a level based single player game that can scripted all of them in a good story just like games like Dishonored, or Bioshock. And given the technology shown in CoD, certainly the game can generate an illusion of chaotic combat with scripting for a single player.

Oh, absolutely. Would have been nice if the game Space Marine was expounded upon or more ambitious games along its lines released or something.  Sadly GW seems content with just... micro WH40k games at the moment.

But this is MMORPG.com so I figured I'd mainly just discuss an MMO WH40k, even if a single player WH40k could also be an awesome experience (and much more feasible to make)

Since Mythic completely destroyed the Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play game, is someone else going to build a new one that adhere's more directly to the WFRP franchise -and not 3rd edition.  I am an absolutely humongous fan of Warhammer FRP -not Fantasy Battles, not 40k anything- ( http://www.wolvesau.net/wh ) and I just unloaded WAR from my machine last night.  The game is utterly horrid, poorly done -getting caught on corners when there are no corners graphically to be caught on, cool-downs are the worst, graphics are piss-poor with lots of white pixels, NONE of the elements from the tabletop RPG are used, in the least, the bad guys are rarely related to anything from the tabletop RPG, even just with names, let alone abilities, and the development of the world has nothing to do with anything Warhammer, except in the general overall names-.  Those are the few things I can think of off the top of my head.

How EA/Bioware/Mythic managed to keep this property, with how piss-poorly this has been done, I don't know, honestly.  In fact, the game felt very much like Lord of the Rings Online, with a few armor changes, as if the game were taken from Turbine and swapped about a bit.  Were it not for the way physics, attacks, and general storyline goes, I would say Turbine would have precedent for a lawsuit.

So, the question is... will a different company be able to obtain the electronic license for WFRP, preferably working from 2nd Edition, and then actually try to make a game for us that's worthy of the title?

Seriously, what kind of game do you want from the Warhammer fantasy IP?

you do know it most likely will be factioned like Warhammer Online was, and with factions how will PvE world when each race is so vastly different in story? Also how will the game mechanics need to be for you to enjoy the game?

Also keep in mind, each race has their own weapon and armor skins, unlike Warcraft, so that means developers have to waste more time on making unique skins for everything.

And like I said, dungeons would also have to be unique to all the different races since their story is so different.

i want to know what sort of gameplay did people expect from a Warhammer game that isn't just a box seller?

I just want a good Warhammer fantasy RPG.

Not an MMO. Not a computerised version of TT. Not a grand strategy(total Warhammer).

Just a good, ole fashioned Warhammer RPG.

I also want a fantasy Warhammer game. Not 40k. Not FPS.

I have never been more excited about a game than I was for Warhammer Online. My favourite game through all time was DAOC and my favourite IP was Warhammer, so I was very hyped.

I also had a lot of fun in Warhammer Online. But as time Went by the interest was gone. The reasons:

1. I couldn't get my friends to play it for more than a few weeks/months.

2. My new Guild, that I joined after my friends left, stopped playing.

3. I love PVP, but to only PVP was not fun. The difference between PVP-gear and PVE-gear was stupid. There were no reasons to do PvE and I noticed that after a year of only PVP:ing I needed PvE as well. Especially for those nights when you got zerged all the time when trying to do frontier PVP or when you were in your PVP-Group and just faced PUGs or vice versa in the scenarios.

4. Balance issues both between classes and between factions (server-wise). Our server had no chance what so ever versus the Order Zerg with brightwizards AOE:ing down Everything.

5. Too many frontiers to fight in. So when our faction finally got together a huge army we spent our time taking empty keeps in one zone getting gear and Points while the enemies were in Another zone taking empty keeps. Then we just Swift zones with no battles what so ever. I couldn't stand that! Why give Points for taking empty keeps? Give it for defending or taking if there are enemies.

So my Dream is that Another fantasy warhammer mmorpg would pop up even if I don't Believe it will. If it ever does I want them to capture the dark feeling of warhammer. I want a lot of classes. I want both PvE and PVP and I want it in one frontier - not in 4-6. I would also love if it didn't include scenarios - instead I want people to go to the frontier for their pvp-fix and I would love if the PVP matters for both the character (developing realm abilites/levels) and the faction (bonuses, allowing them to enter some sort of darkness fall as in DAOC).

I have high hopes for Camelot Unchained. But since it is only PvP I am not sure if it will last in the long run even if I love PvP more than PvE.

Here's an idea:

-> you do mostly Pve with ever increasing difficulty as you level up(sort of like swtor), so you can get used to your class/rotations etc. When you finish your storyline/leveling part, you switch to full mode RvR. What does that mean? Here:

Everything you do benefits your faction's war effort. Crafting, spelunking, actual PvP. PvErs collect loot and crafting material for crafters. Crafters process raw materials from PvE to make them better(either for PvE or for PvP) or flatout process raw material into actual items. Not only gear, but other RvR/Siege neccesities: Catapults/Cannons and their ammo, Battering Rams, Oil, Planks and other fort reinforcement materials. Maybe even rations. PvPers duke it out.

Would that be good?

Lol warhammer aor was a total mess. They should avoid open rvr with only 2 realms since it was always one winning side and it was boring. Also in every mythic mmo casters are op because of the range, they should learn something of WoW.

There was once a streategy game with warhammer fantasy title, and they might do something like that or a turnbased game in the vein of homm or aow with epic 8vs8 maps.

Tho it would be fun to see a hack and slash rpg like diablo with warhammer ip.

Not an MMO. Not a computerised version of TT. Not a grand strategy(total Warhammer).

Just a good, ole fashioned Warhammer RPG.

Warhammer Quest altho only single player will release on Steam 1/7/15 and its a good adaptation of the board game
