I'm more for having "gear". Not pvp gear, not pve gear, just "gear". Good gear, as it is in real life, should be better than bad gear. However, the space between one and the other should be more narrow than most mmo's make them. Bad gear should be cheap and offer adequate protection. How many times have you gone to an armor vendor and seen that the gear they offer is trash? Yesterday, in LOTRO, I noticed that. There was gear at a vendor that was useless and had the same skin as many other gear types so it just wasn't for cosmetic purposes. I also believe in gear deterioration. There is no reason to have crafting if gear is never removed from the game. except for alts. Good gear should be expensive and last longer. But it should be expensive. I still have not made up my mind about "special" types of gear or raid gear. essentially, I believe there should be a cap on how important gear can be, good gear should be obtainable multiple ways and there should be a need to replace it. |

Originally posted by deakon /agreeee I would think that there are a good many MMO gamers that play their characters as if it were a hero from a book.
I don't really have to elaborate on that statement much, and didn't want to earlier this morning because I was so tired. But this relates to any mmo and any mmo system, loot/crafting etc. It's about feeling accomplished, and that your time invested is visible and worthwhile. For me anyway :) But it can't just be spending gems for a different look of armor. It just can't, for me. I do want to be an individual and can't stand looking like every other class, but it has to be more involved than that. |

Yes,my problems with gw2 have nothing to do with the cosmetic gear which was a good idea, too bad they seem to give up on it.I play a game to have fun not to recreate jobs from real life by farming same dungeons for weeks to get a shiny epic which would be my "virtual Ferrari" and help destroying people in pvp hiding my lack of pvp skills(this is why item grinds are so popular with some gamers) .I still plan to finish leveling my character in gw2 unless arenanet goes on with this "more powerful armor from the newest dungeon" thing ,then I will just give my gw2 account to a friend. |

Neither choice really. I prefer gear tradeoffs at endgame: you receive items or pieces of gear that make you more powerful in one way, but less so in another. The challenge is in picking the right combination for a particular scenario. I'd even like gear that have unqiue special abilities that can help in a particular situation or augment other abilities. But vertically progressing gear that is across-the-board more powerful than anything else? No thanks.

After years of playing MMO games, I'm done with gear progression based games, I'm not going to sit for 6 hours to do raids so I can get a chance in looting a neato chestpiece.

This pole is irrelevant because ANET is going to a carrot and stick model for gear with the next content release. Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2. Game(s) I Am Currently Playing: GW2 (+LoL and BF3) |

For those who wanted an uber casual...nothing matters...insta-action game.. GW2 is still probably the cats meow.
People who like RPG's and MMORPG's emphasis on RPG (which on this site seems to be the boogey man since it involves doing stuff) tend to want goals. Long term, medium, and short term goals to accomplish. A major goal was to "unlock" stuff, be it new gear, stats, or skills. GW2 said "screw that" and "people play these games for fun only, and hate having to do stuff they dont want" The problem wasnt this midset, but that (and this is a trend with GW2) rather than replacing these mechanics they just deleted them. Just like how they handled their "revolutionary", "innovative" and "groundbreaking" deletion of the healer role and somewhat with the tank.
So you got a game that really offer less than most games, with renamed public quests as dynamic grind...err events. With no meta-game, no guild vs guild mechanic, no gear system to keep the pve'ers going. It all boils down to the same old game minus all those mechanics that kept people playing...despite they may have preferd other mechanics to keep them playing...GW2 didnt replace, just deleted. While this game will definately work for those who like fantasy but HATE RPG/Progression...the rest of us have probably moved on by now.

The idea that skills not gear matters is in fact an illusion bought into far too often by those not thinking out of the box. Many people saying Ascended gear means gear creep so they want to leave becuase of being betrayed.... wake up call required here.... gear differentiation is already in the game. |

Eww no. I need numbers to work with. EQ2 handles it the best. Item gear is item gear is item gear ad cosmetic items are statless but do not override your stat pieces (Seperate paperdoll slots) |
