Basically what we have now are more solo campaign games with multiplayer rooms than MMOs.
Create your character -> achieve level cap in 3 days through a single player campaign -> have fun in multiplayer chores for 1 month or so -> unninstall the game -> go to the next MMO.
I think it is made to attract FPS players to MMOs. |

The technical aspects are better - GW2 is a good example with beautiful graphics and great sound.
Gameplay is mostly aimed at the casual solo player with some new ways of promoting a new type of grouping where people barely talk (rifts in Rift, Dynamic Events in GW2)
Very few people stick around any new one longer than 2-3 months
So...what are you looking for in an MMO? |

Graphically they've improved quite a bit. In every other aspect they've swirled down the drain. "How should I know if it works? That's what beta testers are for. I only coded it." |

If you have played anything since WoW then you haven't missed a thing. Nothing has changed.
