Well, click on my username profile and see that Ive followed this game since beginning. I don't want it to fail. I was just regurgitating SE's own philosophy, which is "copy WoW" and "Final Fantasy feel". Obviously both two very vague things, but you get the gist, even from that.
And if SE say "hamlet will be more open style", and yet they made "roaming primals" into instanced content, then it honestly doesn't really mean anything to say "more open style". In SE's head, that could still mean instanced.
Anyhow, if you like WoW and you like the "FF feel" (whatever that is), then you will possibly like FFXIV. |

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

How about we wait until we see some alpha/ beta facts before we get carried that the game is this or that?
For myself though, I have never played WoW tbh, but yeah I do enjoy traditional MMORPGs alongside other game styles. I make no apology or secret of that. If FFXIV can deliver a trinity based quest driven game with awesome visuals and the feel and lore of FF then that's fine for me. In fact, it's just what I am looking for from it right now. I'm not one of these guys screaming for everything to be new new new because I am simply not bored with the classic model (though I am bored with bad linear unambitious implementations of it). |

As was said previously, the biggest difference is the Armoury system, which provides greater flexibility for choosing to play with a single character as opposed to a character farm. Another notable difference is the fact that Japanese are making the game. Though they are mimicking the functions of Western and Korean MMO's, the way they go about it can be different (but is not necessarily). This is true for every genre really. If the fact it's a Final Fantasy game doesn't raise your eyebrows then there really isn't too much of a reason to play it over other themeparks. The graphics are great and the art style is fantastic, it's a big budget release. Take it or leave it!

There's absolutely nothing wrong in asking someone to cite their sources. If what Alyosha's saying is true, and comes from a valid source, then they should have no problem providing links to those sources. |

Anyone have any combat footage? I have searched a bit but haven't found any good video. When I played Final Fantasy XI the combat was really bad.

Originally posted by Arcondo87 I wouldnt take to much notice of alyosha17, he/she is obviously misinformed, all the information is freely available from fan sites and recent interviews with the Devs, btw there is housing and they are upgradable, though it will be expensive depending on the grade of housing you want.. Chocobo raising will also be ingame. PvP is also in game. There will be a good mix of group and casual (solo) gaming experience.
I'm not going to supply sources, there is a vast amount of information freely available, and if people are genuinely interested in ARR then they will seek the information for themselves.

Housing will be in the game. The last word we heard was that it was in the conceptual stage - with that being the case, there's simply no way that it will be ready for release unless they're postphoning til summer 2013. The same is true for chocobo racing. PVP I'm not so sure about, other than Yoshi seems set on adding it.
And yes, quests are going to be solo-oriented. You don't need a source for that, all you need to do is look at the quests since the new team took over. Only dungeons, NM, and hamlets/escorts are group content; the quests are all solo-oriented. <3 |

I think one thing that will set this game apart is the storyline. A great, emotionally charged storyline has always been a huge asset for all Final Fantasy games. Judging from the story in FFXIV 1.0 and the positive reception from fans about the storyline and recent closing cutscene that has been released, I'm sure this will be the case in ARR as well.
Hopefully quests will be as well designed as the main storyline. As a long time player of FFXI, I can say that quests were usually pretty involved and not similar to games like WoW where you hardly read the quest text... you really had to pay attention and they were typically more challenging to complete.
Other than that, I'm not sure if there's really much besides high quality graphics and cutscenes that will set this game apart. I doubt that this game will be appealing to MMO fans that are looking for a "new, totally innovative" gameplay experience. The gameplay probably won't be cutting edge (and I'm not even sure that's necessarily a bad thing). But for anyone looking for a high quality "traditional" mmo experience in a Final Fantasy setting will probably have a blast with this game.
Personally, I'm mostly excited about this game because I feel like it'll be similar to an "updated" version of FFXI :) |

For people asking if this is a standard themepark I ask them to consider the fact that it is Final Fantasy, and whilst yes it is an MMORPG, it has been made to attract Final Fantasy fans. The series isn't really famous for its sandbox gameplay.
