Originally posted by Sidad custom arenas are coming https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/structured-pvp-iceberg/ Custom arenas are special PvP maps, rented by players, that will allow you to set up passwords, host scrims, and test strategies with your team. This will allow you to challenge other teams, work on your builds in secret, and test your skills 1-on-1 with friends. You can open the server up to everyone and set the map rotation you like best, or keep your arena password-protected so it serves as your private training ground.

And from the looks of it, this is going to be fairly normal for the game.
Of course, GW2 is failing and it's boring because there's nothing new to do and all content is used up in about 2 weeks.
It's nice to see a dev delivering on its promises. And people wonder why I like ArenaNet so much. Nice work guys! |

And they do it without requring a sub-fee? If they keep delivering a new content regularly, I cannot see how other mmos can justify a $15 sub-fee anymore?

Originally posted by killion81 It's not a subscription in the sense of subscribing just to play the game. They are talking about renting a server that YOU can control. That is vastly different from the typical subscription. Also, I imagine it won't be that cheap to run it. I bet it'll be more likely that a guild pays for the server. That means that it may be very few individual players would be paying that fee.
So, it's not like a subscription at all - at least not like in other games. Besides that, it's an option. There is the possibility that no one will even rent one server. I guess the game would fold then.....
Also, how do you know that any of that "subscription" money would go to any other aspect of the game? While I imagine the company would skim a bit off the top, I find it most likely that most of the money would go toward the monetary rewards of the esport. Just like they did in GW1. |

Originally posted by mWo4life It looks like a B2P update for me. Just a one time world event, a medium/small island and some other PvE stuff. Nothing new about PvP or real competitive PvP or WvWvW. This patch looks good. I really like it when an MMO adds landmass through patches. It is still too early to say if they will be able to patch the game as much as a P2P MMO. Most MMOs release crazy amounts of content after release (most of the content was probably worked on even before the game was released). This does not indicate whether they will be able to deliver content on a regular basis. Even GW1 got quite a few content patches after release.Lets hope ArenaNet keeps their content rolling. Even if it is in the form of DLCs, it is still better than P2P. |

Originally posted by Sidad Not always, and I'd say specially not in this case. Duels is something they've already mentioned is in the works... open world PvP, though, is something that I really can't see working, at least not with a massive (and costly and time consuming) rewrite of the game.
Smart business listen to their costumers... unless their costumers are basically telling them "spend all this money and time to change everything about your product so that it fits me". What can men do against such reckless hate? |

The only disappointment I have with this update is that I end up reading all the antagonists who are trying to drag down a game they don't play. Seriously, focus on the games that you care about not the ones that you don't participate in.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick. |

This sounds pretty cool. I guess I better finish the last couple of levels to 80. Work has been insane lately and no food, beer, or video games makes me something something something. Updating my journal. |

Though now thinking about it this new content wasn't released before the CS gamble boxes were put in was it? so haven't you guys actually paid for the new content already, but not in an upfront way but in a backhanded lets make the drop rates extremely low so we catch the players out before they realise how much they've spent type of way? Arenanet what a nice company always looking out for their fans.
