All P2P games that make the transition to F2P have a nickel and dime mentallity. They will eventually relax on the F2P model as the game becomes more successful. As an example just look at how bad the F2P option on Champions online was when it just transitioned and look at it now.
Don't know if you can run it? |

I doubt itll ever be shut down the next few years, simply because this is the most expensive video game evar, itll be money thrown out of the window. What I am curious to see though is how expansions will turn out, because this game was expensive simply because of having to hire actors for VO. Wouldnt it be fun if it went 'wow-style' questing.

Well, sadly i still play this game (though not as often thesedays) but i did seem to think they had taken the goign F2P model to pull in players. Sadly all they have done is alienate the current subscribers and scare many F2P players away. I myself also think that if this carries on the game would have no more than a 6mth lifespan, especially when they keep releasing botched patch's (some issue's with 1.3, alot of issue's with 1.4 thus far) which is 1 reason why i dont play the game as much anymore. Just letting my current subscription run down (whether i play the game or not) but would i pay to play this anymore, probably not. Think i will return back to warcraft (once i have had a bit longer of a timeout from it) almost 5mths and so far dont feel the need to go back to that one yet, unfortunatly nothing else out there. Sad fact is a common web browser game is giving more enjoyment that SW-ToR is :( |

You can't even fit all your abilities on two skillbars at 50 in SWTOR. Maybe not being able to easily use all the skills that you're given is a QOL issue but this is by far the most nonsensical restriction I've ever heard of in a F2P model. If the game already underperformed, wouldn't it be better to make it more palatable to players new and old? Is there really someone in accounting convinced that giving people an unlimited # of hotbars is going to cut too deeply into their profits? I supported the game for several months with my sub and I've no problem with companies making money. Ultimately, however, the people designing these F2P models have to understand their playerbase better.
There's a reason why most of SOE's models get panned while LOTRO and DDO's were once seen as some of the best. If you give the impression that you're for wringing every last dime out of your prospective customers they'll steer clear. It's not as if there aren't other MMOs to play. |

Originally posted by MeGaTronPower Yes that sounds utterly ridiculous, but in reality,do you need more than one skillbar?I never went much past level 22 on any player, but i found the combat to be so weak that just a few options is all i was using. In otherwords i didn't even need one full hotbar let alone more than one. Seriously i don't think ANYONE shoudl be complaining about ANY cash shop model because you SHOULD be playing the game because you like it ,NOT because you hope for some free gaming. This si why cash shops are ridiculous,if i want to play your game,i would pay for it,if not NOTHING else you do will get me to play it. http://www.youtube.com/user/Napolianboo#p/u/15/rCYLLQCNc1w |

Originally posted by Manestream How have they alienated the current subscribers?
Firstly, most of the feedback I have read (especially since BW changed the number of free skill bars at community request) has been very positive, considering arguably nobody wanted this model forced on us back when we purchased the game. Secondly, nothing will change for paying subs so I'm not sure they have been alienated? Care to share? Driz |

Originally posted by Wizardry There are other F2P games that do not have these restrictions, and SWTORs design should not too, as it more a single player game with multiplayer option than a MMO. It is like paying a monthly fee to Red Dead Redemption or Mass Effect 3 The devs are not even enhancing / expanding the game, they just add more stuff of what is already in game, more flashpoints, more operations, more warzones, which is like DLC for games like Red Dead Redemption, which you get to choose to buy. They are no expanding it by adding in a Beast Master profession, instanced housing, multiplayer space etc SWTOR is simply not worth the constant $$$ to play it. LOL what? All the games that went F2P had LESS players, City of Heroes didn't gain anymore players, STO didn't, Aion didn't, pretty sure AoC and Vanguard didn't either. And 2 rows isn't enough, at 50 give it a try, disable your 2 bars in the UI editor and see.

Oh yes I do (or did when I played), 4 rows were all full of abilities and I keybinded everyone of them. Here's an example of one that I could find, a few missing slots (consumables): |

Originally posted by TeknoBug That's optimum available for subscribers. But what I said is that it is completely possible to play just with 2 bars. You just have to pick wisely what you want to use. So if F2P player does not want to spend cash for additional bars they really don't have to.

Yup. The dumbest f2p model ever. No reason to return.
