Srry but i strongly disagree with OP and here are my reasons:
Fear not this Night: http://youtu.be/qOMQxVtbkik Charr Theme: http://youtu.be/T8_5SccCJEU Into the Dungeon: http://youtu.be/X2XB9d2cHVM Sylvari Theme: http://youtu.be/wGrzNSWTXsk Fields of Glory: http://youtu.be/aZChg66JCr4
And One of my Favourites, the last addition to the GW2 OST, The Halloween Theme:
At the end is all about tastes...but GW2 Soundtrack is pretty well done in my opinion & very catchy too! I love it. |

There are many GW2 tracks that don't catch my attention while playing--which is usually my benchmark for a good game soundtrack--but then there are also several that do. I definitely find myself humming and whistling along quite often overall. That said, I've also taken advantage of GW2's ability to play your own playlists to certain situations. I've found that doing this completely revitalizes the GW2 experience for a time. I generally switch between my own playlists and GW2's actual music quite often.

Strange, because I find most of the music very forgettable, nothing special, and highly derivative. Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned. |

Originally posted by stevebmbsqd AoC and LotRO were both good, but not memorable for me. No mmo music has been really memorable. I like the score in GW2 and it is memorable mostly because I hear a lot of the GW1 music (or parts of it) in GW2. The original stuff is good, but not more or less memorable than any other game. I like the music for the ambience it provides a zone, not for listening to outside of the game. Console game music is probably more deeply etched in my memory - FF7, ChronoCross, Metroid, Zelda, and Mario. |

Originally posted by Vhaln Quite the opposite. It's unlikely I'd recognize music from those games if I listened to them. Those are two games in which I generally mute the music and listen to the soundtracks to the films. Basil Poledouris knocked the Conan soundtrack out of the park and gave us one of the best film soundtracks of all time.
SWTOR is mostly unmemorable except when they use/borrow from Williams directly.
I though WOW had some memorable music, especially in the Burning Crusade.
I find TV and Movie soundtracks to be FAR more memorable. Some memorable TV soundtracks:
HBO's Rome, Deadwood and Carnivale - I listen to those a lot while working Dexter Farscape Babylon 5 - getting really dated at this point though |

The music is very good, and appropriate for Tyria's rich world. We must have different test in music.

Ironically, I was humming GW2 music when I saw this thread! Guess that says it all.

Of course you will get tired of hearing certain music over and over again. That's why I always turn off the music in MMORPGs. So I don't see the problem with Guild Wars 2's music being forgettable: one would want to forget any MMORPG music.

Well after listening to those tracks I have top agree with the OP the music is rather uninspiring genric fanstasy music, the Charr get a tribal drumming track, what are they Orcs from WoW?, the Syvarii get a bright Harp lead track is this the Elven starting zone in LotRO? this is not really pushing the creative envelope I must say and Fear Not This Night has lovely vocals but very lacklustre backing in a faux epic style similar to Oblivion's main theme, so overall pretty poor effort. But to Jeremy Soules defence this is a commision and maybe Arenanet wanted the music this way, classic fantasy themed and he just pushed it out for the fat check and thats why he's not doing any more for GW2. i'm on the "GW2 has a great soundtrack but GW1 is a bit better" boat. maybe it's just the nostalgia talking.
anyway, this one is one of the reasons i actually like going to the charr areas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6ySnDUAkos |

While Jeremy Soule is still not yet up to the level of John Williams, I think he'll get there someday. He just keeps getting better and better. GW2 has some good themes.
Type Jeremy Soule into Pandora, I do this quite a bit when not listening to John Williams or Johann Sebastian Bach or Anthrax radio. Good stuff. Now if only I could get the two to mix. 80's-90's Thrash with Classical, yum. |
