In this week's MMOFTW, delayed by the wrath of Superstorm Sandy, we recount the funding success of Star Citizen, the buttload of new Elder Scrolls information, Lord of the Rings Online's new expansion, Rift's final soul reveal for Storm Legion, and we talk a bit about the "one game" we always turn to. Check it out!

There you go, the Defiler and aptly named, going to have to fire up my Rift account. The more I see of the Elder Scrolls makes me think it will blow Neverwinter and some other games out of the water. As to Turbine, either they are/were working on an unannouced game or they were very overstaffed. You don't need 400 people to support 3 existing games, one of which(AC1) only has a small team doing content updates on it. |

Originally posted by Ozmodan Everyone and their mother knows Turbine is working on a Harry Potter MMO. And with the recent hirings it looks like it's going to be multi platform, both PC and consoles. And then with WB at the steering helm it's going to be F2P with huge cashshop, to squeeze every available penny out of the fans wallets. |

Well if it is Harry Potter than means mostly kids, pretty hard to soak that kind of playerbase, they have no money to speak of and I really doubt many parents will give them much to spend on it. Any developer can tell you, while some games have done well in the niche, like wizard 101 mainly because it is very inexpensive, most of the others are not doing well, hence not a great place to pay for an expensive game.

Originally posted by Ozmodan Ehh what? The children version of the books yes maybe. The films however, where sertainly not for the kids. There is also an adult version of the books. I would say, especially after the movies, that the largest part of the fanbase is older than you think. WB and Rowling made billions of dollars out of the movies alone! The new Harry Potter studios themepark in the UK has a waitinglist for over a year now. And those tickets aren't cheap I can tell you.
