I've retreated into EVE and likely won't emerge until DF:UW or something similar comes along.

I'm done with standard AAA MMO's as they are currently designed, just not to my liking.

So many good SPGs released and soon to be released I feel like I'm being spoiled!

XCOM, Dishonored, Rome 2: Total War, the new freelancer-type space sim in development by Valve, new GTA... fingers-crossed maybe Dragon Age 3 will turn out to be decent too.

Pauly, I feel your pain.  The only problem with your post is that you are telling the flock to unflock.  The reason mmo games are so generically dull and stupid these days is because they've become more popular.  Now they are "big money-makers" so companies/devs are looking to make the games more "friendly" to a larger base (many non-mmo and even non-RPG players), so they dumb it down, make it easy and make the combat more action-oriented in order to bring in the flock.

So trying to make this statement here, is almost futile.  The cancer that has infected the MMORPG genre won't go away that easily.

Currently I'm subbed to Anarchy Online and also play Fallen Earth for free.  Im also doing something as an experiment and taking a toon in GW2 to 80 while doing every dungeon available in the game.  Once I reach 80, Ill give a thorough review...the only reason im doing this is to eliminate the excuse being used that "you didnt play the whole game...how do you know?"...Im at level 16 and already ready to pluck my eyes out with the aid of a few crows.

Im in full agreement with you though and will NOT sub to another game or purchase another game until the companies realize they won't get the customers that count.  Instead I'm trying out sandboxers (Xyson thumbs down), indy themeparks (fallen earth) and old MMORPG's....Anarchy Online.

planet side 2 for pvp, 1- 2 hours

some random game for pve.. aion,raiderz,swor etc..

there is tons of free games

im so tired of push myself 8+ hours in mmorpgs

I'd love to see what you think is "original". I wonder if we couldn't pick it apart and find where it draws its elements.

Guild Wars 2 does play somewhat differently than most mmo's. It's the players who can't break away and are so used to going to an area, picking up quests and rinsing and repeating. Remember, the devs originally didn't have "hearts" on the map but players complained that they were lost.

And in the end, a quest is a quest. Feel free to go back in literature and verify this.

Now, I can't say that I'm thrilled with the frequency that these hearts reset but I suppose that's because players would complain that there was "nothing to do".

edit: oh, and I think you don't realize that the community isn't an integrated community. There are people who just started playing these games and they love them. Heck, a buddy of mine discovered WoW a year ago and he loves it. Brand new, first mmo. Not a huge gamer per se but he always liked the Warcraft RTS.

Well, not every one reads these forums.  Just a very small percent of the gamers out there do.  

Really, we should all stop watching television until it improves if we're going to choose anything to protest.  Or stop buying magazines at the checkout until they get some good looking long haired men on the covers instead of women.  No more anime porn until it's more dicks than tits!  No more Final Fantasy until they make Manthras instead of Mithras!  I could really get into this.  My list goes on and on and on.  I'm not going to school anymore until they fix the parking lot and make it bigger!!!  I'm not driving my car until it runs on something other than gas!  Just warming up.  I've got more.

I haven't been waiting for any games let alone mmo's to "impress" me just entertain me and as it stands the industry is doing just fine right now.  don't get me wrong I'm eagerly awaiting the game that can/will turn the genre on it's ear but until then I'm fine with the games being made right now.

And sorry truthxhurts I'll take the value meal any day as a pescatarian.
