Originally posted by Ripostethis And so is GW2 a themepark. Come on now. Just because they abandoned the questsystem and replaced it with someone even more boring and repetitive, doesn't make it a themepark. GW2 is a strict class / level based progression game! That alone goes against the very definition of sandbox! |

Originally posted by Loke666 Sandbox games are supposed to be like tool boxes, which is why Eve has worked so well, CCP 'went with the flow' they let the players choose how the game evolved, maybe its because their a bit closer to their game than others are, when you introduce 'freedom' into a game, then yes, weird things do happen, but i guess thats because when Devs plan game which they envision maybe 3 seperate paths to follow, players will almost always choose the 4th. Themepark games have had their day, but their getting old, very very old. More players now are probably ready for more 'sandboxy' style of gameplay, even if they don't realise it yet, what they want and perhaps, what they need may not be the same thing, can SOE do it though, doubtful, after seeing how dreadful Planetside 2 is shaping up to be, i really have to wonder if SOE can succeed in the MMO market on any level anymore |

Wouldn't it be ironic if Zenimax produced "World of Tamriel" while SOE produced a functional sandbox.

Another sandbox never hurt anyone, but a high quality one could really help the genre now especially after the previous generation of indie ones are on their way out.

Originally posted by Ripostethis This is a thread about EQNext not GW2, go to your GW2 forum if you want to talk about your messiah. The game will be nothing like GW2, last time i checked GW2 was a linear themepark of the same mold as all other themepark. Smed has already said it will be more akin to Vanguard and EQ1. EQNext based on PVP lmfao. |

This is great news about EQNext and I hope SOE can pull it off.
Companies can evolve, just like games can. They are dynamic and they change with circumstances. It would be great for our genre if we can get the sandbox people want. Of course, not everyone will ever be happy with any game, but I think this could have a huge positive impact on mmorpgs in the future, if it's done right. |

Well after testing PS2 voer a few mnoths now and seeing how well SOE are interacting with the community I have a very very good vibe about EQ:Next and I cant wait to find out more details...
As for people saying GW2 is a sandbox all I can respond with is this..

I figured EQN would be a social sandbox but was worried when Smed was tying "emergent gameplay" with eSports and Twitch plugins. When he said "biggest sandbox.." I got really excited and my fears are subsided for now. What one more year huh?
You have to figure though if you can see AND play at FF next year there will be a reveal before then. Maybe Dave's comment on "late this year" may still happen. Dear developers, In my humble and inexperienced opinion if I can get through all the content you spent the last 5+ years working on within 6 months you have not done your work justice. Please give me, and everyone else, some tools to create our own content from what you have made so I can stay in your world and appreciate it longer than three weeks before I say "meh". It's a shame and I'd rather not do that to something you put so much of yourself in to. |

Too bad you can't trust a damn word the guy says. Seems like everything the guy ever says might be "true at the time or moment he says it" but what shows up ends up being something completely different. Sorry Smed, nothing you say can be believed. |

i hope they do ths right but from past experience with SOE i have major doubts. I hope they cut exp gain(if there is exp and lvls) way down and bring back the days of leveling taking months if not years... make it about the journey again and not about the end game.
Im sure it will involve a supped up version of eq2s dungeon maker and be driven alot by player created content, but that too makes me nervous. Guess all we can do is wait and see.
Watch your thoughts; they become words. |

An EQ sandbox would be cool. But I have serious doubts about this.
