Hands down it would be sandbox, but... I picked themepark. The reason being is I actually don't see any sandbox out or on my radar that is likely to be good enough to keep me for 5 years.

If there were a game of either type out there worthy of keeping my attention for the next 5 years, I would have chosen accordingly. Unfortunately I don't see anything currently released or in development that would qualify. If I absolutely had to pick one right now, I'd probably have to pick a themepark, for the simple reason that all the sandbox's are sub standard indie efforts, with the exception of EVE and I know that won't keep me for 5 years. I'd much rather vote for "None of the above". |

I have already been playing EQ2 for 5+ years now. So yes themeparks do have lasting power.

Isn't part of the isse and demand for "sandbox" types the very reason that themeparks can't generate enough content and fast enough to keep you entertained throughout 5 years?

To be honest, it'd probably be a single-player RPG.

Playing one game for 5 years? What a horrible, horrible punishment. You monster! EDIT: It would have to have extremely good PvP and E-sports. After that I wouldn't care which one it is. Two answers: If you mean sandbox as it's commonly accepted (with FFA full-loot PvP) then my answer is Themepark. However, if you mean sandbox without all that nonsense, then yes, sandbox all the way. That's why I play Minecraft. |

Voted sandbox as I haven't been able to endure a theme park for more than two weeks in many years. On the other hand, I played a sandbox mmo for more than five years in one case.
"I agree that "unimaginable complexity" is absurd, but so is comparing a single player game to an mmo. It's like comparing masturbation to sex, they are similar in some respects, but really are not comparable." -jimdandy26 |

Originally posted by Heinz130 Nah, the issue comes down to this for me. I played UO for 10+ years. There hasn't been a sandbox that comes close to it. They haven't managed to make another sandbox like it in 15 years. I don't see one coming any time soon. So if I had to pick between themepark and sandbox to play for the next 5 years I'd go themepark simply because choosing sandbox means I'd be stuck playing sandbox wannabies like DF or MO which isn't going to happen lol. |

I would probably play Minecraft, but I'd be spending a LOT of time doing something that wasn't playing video games. Join the League For Gamers. |

I didn't vote because you don't have an option for the game that is FUN. Themepark or sandbox, whatever as long as I am enjoying it, you need that option as well. Hell, maybe I would want to play NHL 13 for the next 5 years, why not an option for that? That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming! |

Well, you'd expect a sandbox answer to this poll, but truth be told, most sandboxes bore me to pieces. It's all player driven, but if a group of players decides to do things that you don't like one bit, then tough, you're in for the ride or you're out as well. So I'd prefer a good themepark to a sandbox, because I have yet to find a decent casual friendly sandbox that doesn't require a sub. |
