Only once in Anarchy Online, i had 2 accounts for buffing purpose. I would dual log buff my current character (second account) with my Meta-Physicist (first account).

Originally posted by Maelwydd Well, I think some folks have done a pretty good job explaining why they had multiple accounts, either as buff bots, or to permit faster training of alternate skills, market manipulation and some others. It's not cheating, and while it may not be "fair" to the single player it does serve a dual purpose of drawing in more income for the developers while satisfying the players who don't mind paying for it. But debating the morality of the practice isn't what this thread is about, and I've already learned something new today, that SWG was title that it seems several players had 10+ accounts (not necessarily active at the same time) to accomplish their goals. I had not realized that before today.

Originally posted by VikingGamer Not picking up on you specifically but just using this as a reference as your points are clearly stated with reasons unlike others in this thread... "3 in lineage 2. The extras were for a healer and a buffer. Pretty common in that game to have multiple accounts. At least back a few years it was, not sure now." What was wrong with having other players and grouping (and i usually solo play most MMO's and group rarely but controling more then 1 character....don't get it)? An MMO is social by nature and this just seems so completly anti-social to the point I think it is a mental issue. "4 in EVE. I would haul ore while my alts continued mining. Very common in that game to have lots of alts if you are an industrialist." I can partially understand this, but again, isn't this just an expensive way to cheat? The game is structured in such a way with limits in place to moderate things and having multiple accounts bypasses game design. I can underestand why it is done but still think it is cheating. You are not the great business man controlling the universe though sharp trading and supurb pilots skills but but fudging the system and cheating (imo). "2 in DAoC. Got to have your speed buffer." Why? Why did you have to spend more money just to do things quicker or to do something that you could achieve simply by playing the game with others? "2 in WoW. For the RAF bonus. Dropped that sub after leveling." Again why? Why the rush to get to max level rather then just playing the game? Why not meet others and socialise, join a guild and get the bonus from a friend....
Overall I feel sad about this thread. I sometimes feel a little embarrased about the time I spend playing online etc but compared to people in this thread I an fine, but people here have some serious problems with social skills and a "must win at all costs, even by cheating" mentality. If ever I was worried for the industry this thread just made it worse...
On a side note, most people I read who play EVE seem to have multple accounts so anyone know exactly what their numbers are? By the sounds of it they just have a lot of people who are obsessed, have multiple accounts and no life? |

Originally posted by Nadia No idea what RAF actually means so please excuse my ignorance but my question would be: - Could you only get this mount by having a 2nd account or could you also get it by having friends do it?
Why did it need a 2nd account rather then a list of friends? |

yes, WoW, but only to power level my own alts with RAF.
RAF: refer a friend. you got fast levelling if you linked your account and quested with a "friend" that you referred. After you levelled you could just transfer that char to your main account and close the RAF account.

WoW - three accounts for family. GW - bought four accounts through nightfall. I'm taking a shot of vodka every time I see a reference to go back to WoW. |

No never. I rarely play more than one main character as well. Actually I still remember times when you had 1 character per server and I see nothing wrong with that. Of course those were difftent kind of games.
Playing multiple characters at one time (i.e. dual boxing) seems horrible for me personally pleasure wise of course. Botting / macroing as well. Even though I long for UO - I could not play it nowadays. Having gameplay that rely heavily on macroing - bleeegh. Setting up macro to endlessly dig in mines = not fun. Besides I prefer to have 'characters' and not 'toons', but it is hard nowdadays. |

Originally posted by Phry it wasn't that easy back when i used RAF. Levelling was still pretty slow back then, and i never really liked pve much. i just wanted end level alts to pvp with. Back then you got almost no xp from BGs so you were pretty much forced to pve to level. |

I had 2 that I used on and off for City of Heros/Villians. I only ever paid for a month or so on my second account though. I would invite/reinvite my second acct, which when I did it initally, I recieved 2 free weeks on each acct with a paid month, so I arguably got my money back. I basicly did it as a lark, when I came into knowledge of multi-boxing. I didn't use any bot-programs. I would just set to follow and set the AoE heal to auto. This was rather ineffiecent, but I did find it amusing. |
