Originally posted by Kuppa Without the rankings and rewards. just like WoW wargames. The problem with the system as it was in WoW you need to find people to play with. Once one team beats on the other for awhile you have to find more people. Where as an arena system would find more players for you, rank you, and reward you.
On paper I can see how someone would say "this looks cool" but in practice it's just not practical. It's much easier to just hot join a game, plus you get rewarded for it. sad thing is I could of posted an article from a developer stating that they are giving away $50 checks to all players by end of next month and I bet you would see threads stating 1. Why do I have to wait till end of next month and 2. Why a check? who uses checks nowadays?
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. Originally posted by Aerowyn If they are giving away money like that, one has to discuss what the intention is and if it is good for the game as a whole to do so.
I want the Structured PvP to succeed as an E-sport, but I think their current path is worrysome. Like I mentioned above, they don't seem to either realize or agree with the analysis that it is important to hurry up while a lot of people are still interested; time is of essence.
I don't want to read in 1 year how they finaly got replay, spectator and an ELO system going but it being too late due to not enough people interested. |

I read the article. Custom arenas sound a lot like an overly complicated form of group dueling to me.
Add a ranking system. Add various forms of structured PvP. I'm GW1 players overwhelmingly favored death match style PvP to capture points. Can players quick join death match PvP, can they start death match tournaments, what am I missing? Group dueling. |

Originally posted by drakaena I understand the need for a ranking system or ladder. But, I don't understand what woul be the difference from "death match" pvp and "group dueling"....you can join a custom arena that is open to the public. |

Originally posted by Kuppa I think you are mistaken here.

It doesn't look like a hot join or public join system. DamonVile- Games built for disposable players are now apparently built by disposable employees. |

Originally posted by bcbully Same paragraph from your quote: "Custom arenas are special PvP maps, rented by players, that will allow you to set up passwords, host scrims, and test strategies with your team. This will allow you to challenge other teams, work on your builds in secret, and test your skills 1-on-1 with friends. You can open the server up to everyone and set the map rotation you like best, or keep your arena password-protected so it serves as your private training ground." |

This topic by ANet just shows how out of touch they are with their own game and their playerbase. GW2 PvP is aweful and flawed at very basic levels. There is an iceburg, but it's upside down as players stop playing and leave the game in droves.
