Hey guys.. I've held off a little in looking in to GW2 for several reasons but I am wondering what peoples views are on how it is now that the novelty (perhaps) has worn off? I've been playing MMOs for a long time and after quitting wow when Firelands was released I finally found an MMO, years later, that I have really enjoyed; TSW. However, whilst I am waiting for the raid to be released I was hoping I might get some objective reports on GW2.. Im a bit frazled out on the fantasy genre but am I missing out by not taking a look at the game? Look forward to your thoughts. :) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sJDGCXC9nII/UNWcazUfoKI/AAAAAAAAAKU/rfvNCMdQrz8/s1600/Banner8.jpg |

Novelty has worn off for me. Some things are different but it isn't the genre redefining game many make it out to be.

There is no other MMO at the moment I'd rather play (and that includes TSW... my sub there is still active but I haven't touched it since I started GW2) My level 85 Protection Paladin and 85 Affliction Lock will just have to wait...perhaps for a very long time. |

Just buy Planetside 2 and play the beta, Is a FPS MMO but insanely fun, The RvRvR is way better than GW2 from any point of view.

It's a quality game that has lived up to its expectations. Beyond max level you will love the game if you like collecting/dungeons/achievments and in particular battle ground pvp on a massive scale. The game really comes into its own if you like the social aspects of mmorgs (do join a guild ASAP). Other positives is masses of build options, downscaling etc. negatives: it is high fantasy, it feels like a polished vanilla wow but without the raiding. Appart from this I think the gameplay if you don't like socialising and want to solo, you can do to max level and beyond but I think it will feel like everything you have played before. If you read profession games reviews in magazines, they at pretty much on the money this time around. Ps if you do want a home come to aurora glade and give me a shout our guild is looking for more people :)
rpg/mmorg history: Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (9500 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(350 elementalist) Now playing GW2/Diablo 3/Rift Waiting Archeage. |

For 60 bucks (now 40 somewhere) you can't get more fun imo.

I believe that GW2 may not be everyone's cup of tea, so that makes it hard to answer your question. I think the best suggestion would be to find a friend who has and either watch them play or play yourself. If you are more interested in racing to 80 to do just max level content, then there may not be enough to keep you interested. For me GW2 is more about the journey than anything else. For PvP, I think there are still a few things that are being cleared up for WvW, but it is still fun. sPvP is also fun, but is the only thing in the game that does not give exp for your character, though it has its own progression system. All in all, I would say do your own research ( the wiki is a good start ) and come to your own conclusion.

Im quite interested in ranked PvP.. I still have fun in TSW PvP but it needs a lot more work. What are peoples thoughts on the PvP side of the game? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sJDGCXC9nII/UNWcazUfoKI/AAAAAAAAAKU/rfvNCMdQrz8/s1600/Banner8.jpg |

Originally posted by Escada i play mostly pvp (as i did in gw1, for me it was the best part of the game). pvp in gw2 is kinda stale at the moment. there's really nothing to progress towards to (unless you are an rpg fan that likes to upgrade item looks that have nothing to do with pvp). honestly i think i liked gw1 pvp better, there were tons and tons of builds. gw2 is just kinda bland imo. i wasted 120 bucks (gw2 and diablo3) and i still like world of tanks better (a game i never spent money on and played for over 2 years). |

Originally posted by Escada It's a given that its superb imo, deserves a 10/10. Its not even necessary to mention peoples thoughts because most people are enjoying it. GW2 I give it a 10/10 based on the direction they are heading to, one of my fave games but not the best imo. Looking at: The Repopulation |

Originally posted by Escada I personally think it is the best MMO since Vanilla WoW. There is just so much to do at any given time, that is if gear progression is not your priority. This is especially more true for the casual 2-3 hour per day MMO gamer. |

Originally posted by hikaru77 PS2 is not even an MMO, it is more FPS and as such will have no bearing on the gamer who doesn't like FPS's. Me being one of them. |

I still look forward to playing in between gaming sessions. It's also pretty awesome in how often you can become sidetracked when trying to accomplish a specific goal.

I have enjoyed GW2 a lot since release, but some things are beginning to test my patience. My main gripe is WvWvW. At first it was the queues, although they have reduced drastically over the last week or so on my server. What has gotten worse is fighting an invisible enemy. Tonight I had to quit and do some PvE. It makes me wonder did they allow more players into WvWvW making the situation worse? Whatever, they need to sort that out quickly because I'm no PvE'r. |

Originally posted by Escada The PvP is actually very balanced, considering the amount fo classes and how recent it was released. Some builds do work better than others, granted, but Anet is working ot the minor kinks in each of the professions (necromancer, engineer notably). Again, any profession can beat another depending on build and the actual skill of the player. I go engineer in PvP, and while people say turrets suck, I MAKE THEM WORK! ;D Edit: and yes their is ranked Premade team games... not pugs though sadly. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/innovation |

What is the realistic situation re the in game shop? Can you reasonably get by with not splashing out in the shop? A friend of mine said they were mostly convienience items.. what do you think? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sJDGCXC9nII/UNWcazUfoKI/AAAAAAAAAKU/rfvNCMdQrz8/s1600/Banner8.jpg |

GW2 is great for what it is . Its got elements of single player rpgs mixed with co-op game play . The pvps fun and fast . I dont think its paticulary immersive but its a lot better than most of the free to play and subscription based mmos . You cant move for players in the open world unlike in say Rift or Warcraft both of which are city centric games really because of the finder tools . I would say to the OP buy it .I'm sure you will enjoy it as a second mmo and if you like single player roll playing games you'll enjoy the story aspects of it . It doesn't redesign the mmo genre but it has a lot of good idea that nudge the genre in the right direction. Its not easy like WoW .Mobs wont be killed in two shots . You can actually fail in GW2 where as in WoW you will be pretty much assured of success in the vast majority of the PVE content . Its not perfect it can be a little repetative but its all so the kind of repetition thats fun . Its one of the better games released in the last few years . Having said that Vanilla WoW though to the early days of the Lich King were better . For my money though for anyone whos a more experianced gamer its vastly superior to WoW in its current form . The more of the these buy to play games that come out the better . We have Planet Side 2 to look forward to as well and maybe the War z . |

Originally posted by Escada You never have to use any thing from the in game shop. If ever you want or feel the need to, you can buy gems (cash shop currency) using gold. Personally, I think it was built for those guys who wish to give more support to the game than any thing. |

Oh well thanks for all the info. I've only recently signed up to these forums; the community seems mature and helpful and friendly. I might well have a crack at the game :) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sJDGCXC9nII/UNWcazUfoKI/AAAAAAAAAKU/rfvNCMdQrz8/s1600/Banner8.jpg |
