Math is hard when you don't read properly. 2.7 was total, not digital.
Edit: Also, that was an analyst estimate. Nothing concrete yet. I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil |

Originally posted by MeGaTronPower What an eloquent post. They sell 2.7 million boxes and have 10 million subs? hmm. Oh yeah, Asia is most of their business and they don't buy the boxes or pay monthly subs.
WOW absolutely took a hit in their most profitable regions. The previous expansion sold 3.3 million in 24 hours. This one sold 2.7 million in a week. Still great numbers. Still the most played MMO. But McDonalds is also the most visited restaurant. |

Originally posted by FrodoFragins I don't know how anyone could expect WoW to maintain those day 1 sales, especially since the sub numbers they provide themselves have dropped about 3 million in the last 2 years. Everyone has always known that the majority of the wow "subscribers" are in the east, at best NA and EU account for around 4 million players. ![]() |

the press release does not say digital copies sold through http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/company/press/pressreleases.html?id=6147208 During the first week of launch, prior to the release in China on October 2, the expansion had already sold through approximately 2.7 million copies and the game’s global player base passed 10 million subscribers, with growth across all major regions.* *Based on internal company records and reports from key distribution partners. |

I'd like to see the OP comment upon his error made, namely that it isn't 3.4 million but instead 2.7, but something tells me that the OP will simply keep ignoring the fact that the number for MoP was less than CATA. Also, iirc the 3.3 million was what CATA sold in 1 day, where as the number for MoP of 2.7 mln is in 1 week, sounds an important enough difference to me.
Is WoW still doing alright? Sure, it's still selling alright. Not as well as it used to do though, the difference with CATA says enough. Imo the OP should just chill, don't worry, WoW is still doing alright, and even if it sees a decline in sales and subs with incidental peaks with new expansions, that doesn't mean that you won't enjoy playing your fave MMO still. |

Originally posted by smh_alot I agree, I don't even understand why people care so rabidly about the numbers because unless they are that low that you have trouble finding players then it's really a non issue. It's more of a thing for developers to laud over eachother. I'd still play a game if it had 1000 players as long as it still felt like a populated game world. ![]() |

Yep. For your own gameplay it only matters that you have enough people around on your own server to play and have fun with, that's all that really matters, I agree.

People like the OP make me glad I ditched this game. "Jelly"? Seriously? no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

Honestly, if I could give a rough estimate, it will probably only reach Cataclysm level sales about 3 weeks later.

i was stupid for hyping up star wars old republic to wow players even my friends. Swtor disappointed me the most never again. I always thought swtor would be a big competitor to wow, it maks me angry swtor did not live up the expectations. Not only swtor failed my expectationas a competitor to wow, i was embarrased to hype it up on wow forums to get those wow players to join me in swtor.
Yes im bitter somewhat. |

If as the post above indicates there is roughly 4 million sales, where is that other 6 million subs common from?
rpg/mmorg history: Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (9500 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(350 elementalist) Now playing GW2/Diablo 3/Rift Waiting Archeage. |

I honestly don't know how anyone can spin this as "good news." It's the first expansion that's sold less that the previous one. No one with any sort of intelligence thinks "WoW is dead," however, the age, the gameplay and the design decisions are starting to show.
