Orr isn't that bad - people whine and exaggerate. Again, it's dull, lots of mobs, not that pretty.... but it's not that hard to get around and I died the first time since I been level 80 yesterday because I kept pulling more and more mobs accidently. As long as you're careful you'll be fine, to be honest I was pushing my luck and biting off more than I could chew.
As an Engineer, Im used to doing that and surviving :) |

I admit to ignoring map party requests when I am trying to get to my storyline point. Can you imagine the reaction I'd get if I /mapchatted for help just to get there? OO! New DE! Escort Duty: Help the poor ranger get to his storyline point! lol I understand this is a warzone. I just get tired, literally, of fighting for every inch I travel. OK, that was a bit of hyperbole, but it seems like it sometimes. As it is now, I fight to the next waypoint and I really feel like logging out and taking a nap to recharge. My Norn runs like he is mired in molasses already. Now I have to fight all along the way, too? I just get mentally tired playing the game in Orr. - Al Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. |

I don't want to discourage anyone. And maybe this type of gameplay suits your style. It appears to suit many players, and I have no qualms about that. This is just my own personal feelings on the zone of Orr. I apologize if I put a damper on your expectations. I would definitely encourage you to play in Orr and see how it fits you. You may find Orr enjoyable. Many others have :) - Al Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. |

I wouldn't have complaints about Orr except that I have to go there for my storyline. I have no choice in the matter. If it were a case of Orr being a warzone for those who like that type of gameplay, I would chalk it up to another area of the game I would not play in, like WvW. But it isn't. I wouldn't even comment on it. Start at A running along, pull, pull, pull, stun, clear/signet, run, pull, pull, stun, pull, clear/signet, run, pull, pull, get to B. You don't die, unless you count dying of boredom ofc, you just get tired of it.
They could just have normally paced out mobs with a chance of a random mega zerg of them from which it is actually hard to escape, kind of a mini DE. Just sticking 1 mob per square inch of the map is merely annoying.

Love Orr myself. Its how I envision all MMO zones to behave, constant fighting, intense action and never a safe spot. Love how there is action at every turn and how it is a war in svery sense of the imagination.

I think The Cursed Shore needs a tweak too (haven't been there since the last patch so maybe they've started) although the mob density and difficulty there shouldn't come as a complete surprise since as soon as you cross the water in the Straights of Devastation and then move on to Malchor's Leap, there is a steady progression in mob density and difficulty. You do get an excellent feel of approaching the "front lines."
Cursed Shore follows the progression but trash mobs are so dense that it's almost impossible to fight one at a time. You're always dealing with 2-5. This is where a good mix of AOE, condition removal and mitigation shines. My Guardian can still solo there but I do have to be much more careful. |

Ye I agree with above, now that I'm getting to grips with generating and popping my own combo fields I can now handle 2-3 mobs on my ele. Cursed shore is a great place to go if you want to farm decent nodes and drops with consequences. Other zones are there depending on how overpowered you want to feel - it is no coincidence the rewards flex accordingly.

I think this is what it is to me. It is not difficult, by any means. I can get from place to place. It is just annoying as hell to do so. And mentally fatiguing. It's not like the fights are different. There really is not much in the name of strategy to be used. Yes, I can fight 3-5 minions and be fine. It is just doing so at every turn that gets annoying. Even the singles that attack me are not a challenge. Forums can do that. Take my experience with D3. I never visited the official D3 forums. I just played the game my own way (didn't buy items on the AH) and really, really enjoyed the game. You would think I was playing a completely different game because there is so much hate thrown at the game.
Avoiding the negative forums allowed me to enjoy my game and not focus on every negative nit-picking comment posted by people who do nothing but complain. |
