Shame though that player's actions in WoW don't have any consequences on the game 'world'.

guards respawn, players get bored and a few hours later nothing reminds the people there that there was a 'epic' battle.

Best thing since WoW? Best thing since EQ if you ask me. They brought back some sense of exploration and game is not even forcing you to level up to start to enjoy. I got 423 hours at my /age and i barely visited Orr, finished crafting to the end and completed all the Dungeons' story modes, let alone explorables (yet i done some of them dozen of times). Done WvW a lot though.

And despite what many says about it, im not the kind of person that have "honeymoon" period when it comes to gaming. I either dont like the game from the begining or i lose interest during first week or two when i notice that im starting to sleep due to boredom.

Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2
Waiting for: Pathfinder Online

"Still? "  There was a month and I haven't heard of any potentially good relases since GW2....

Anyway.

I don't agree.   In WoW vanilla players actively seeked help and advise from each other  (not just spam rez),  achieving things was providing long-term satisfaction because it was effect of long effort and was providing meaninfull reward- (like first mount at 40 level),  since gameplay was not yet focused so much on instance gameplay, levelling was not very fast and there was no cross-server stuff + world was seamless apart of few instances - then there was universal immersion of being in one world.

Because faction change was impossible and there were far more limits to classes & long travel - race & faction attachment & pride was significant.   Game was not overfilled with various points, karma, ranks, tokens, etc

+ on PvP servers fight was taking place in actual game world and actual cites / capitols.

While WoW Vanilla in order to not go to instanced gameplay would have to take diffrent design and developement path and propably would not achieve numbers it had in BC-WotlK-Cata and have now and since foucs on  end-game instances was less risk - those long months with Vanilla WoW were VERY DIFFRENT from what GW2 offers.

Very difrent design, very differnt feel imho.

I don't agree it is best things since Vanilla WoW, but on the other hand there was only very few titles matching GW2 satisfaction because post-WoW mmorpg market is trainwreck.

Come on. That is too much. Don´t ever compare this rated-T repetitive Theme Park ride with EvE again. I feel like this was a personal insult.

Compare GW2 to Pandas as long as you want. Compare it to Rift or Tera or whatever else is set in medieval fantasy world X with endless amounts of fetch quests.

Besides EvE there is only Secret World for a mature audience and breaking the cookie cutter fantasy mold. NOT GW2

 Heheh

Eve is probably in a different class, other than being an MMORPG, it shares very little with EQ, WoW, and GW2.  Personally, I did not like Eve...moved too slow, too much repetition.  But I know a lot of people love it, and that's cool.  I'm actually glad it exists because it injects some variety into a genre that is otherwise pretty narrow.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Agree with EVE, don't agree with TSW.

TSW was for me too silly and not mature and not good story enough to consiuder it mature, but that's a problem since huge majority of movies and books with are not that good either so making it good in video games is extremly hard and there were very few games in history that I would call 'good game for mature audience and with mature story and setting'.  Really very few.

+ while abilty wheel is nice everything else reeks of cookie cutter linear themepark with focus on months - years of instance running.

Hmmmm how do I put this in an analogy; EVE is like Zork, WoW/Rift/etc is like pacman. Anyone can play pacman but Zork... took lots of patience to play, as does EVE.

Best since EQ?  Did I read that right?  You essentially skipped over the entire genre there!

Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros

Its the best 50 Euros i spend in my life,

For me the game is exactly what i expected it to be,

Even more.

Its better then expected in some ways.

Because the game has something for every of my gaming moods.

And i am not alone with this, beleive me, over half my guild fully agrees, while only very few had a hard time understanding that the game is different and requires a different approach to have fun...

WvWvW queues prove that the game is still as popular as ever, and the population in PvE has spread over  level 1 to 80, so almost no more overflow servers (tough i had one in Queensdale yesterday afternoon.

The game is doing great and many people are having lots of fun.. Now its up to Anet to hurry the repairs, do the ballancing, and add more content.

I am still wayting on the mobile device access and most of the promissed minigames.  I hope to see the first new added content inside the 3 months after release mark.

The game is still a blast to play, every day,  for Explorers like me... Its the ultimate exploration game, Killers and socialisers will be happy too. And i predicted long time ago that acheivers will not like the game to much, and not for a very long periode of time.  But then whome ever listens to my ramblings.

So if over half  your guild is still enjoying the game, then little under half of your guilf is not?

Also if your onky other experience seems to be WoW how can you say its the best thing since vanilla wow, I'm guessing your

experience is limited.

This being about the 100th thread proclaiming the games still fun, kinda makes you wonder why are you trying to

convince everyone of this, or is just you trying to convince yourself. Hell i know if I had a truelly fun game I'd be playing it over running to a game site to proclaim its still fun.

Can't agree with best mmo since EQ.

Daoc & eve are post EQ and definetly better

Planetside probably too

Coh better in some areas, weaker in pvp though.

But I've played eve too long. And gw2 Is the best game with a healthy population after eve.

I do think GW2 is the best MMORPG to release since 2004 because it is really the first AAA quality big-budget MMO since 2004 to try something a little different.

The older games, from 99-2004 there was a LOT of variety and each game had it's own style and feel and as such the fans were hyper loyal...

UO, EQ, SWG, EvE, E&B, AC1, AO, etc.

But after WoW, SO much stagnation in the genre.. way too much "same pig, new lipstick" with everyone offering fundamentally the same game play in a different skin.

WAR, AoC, TR, Rift, TOR, TERA, LOTRO, TSW...

If you didn't like top-end raids, grind heavy, gear-centric and heavily instanced "carrot on a stick" game play then you could go play EvE and that was about it.

The die has been cast, the ball is rolling... GW2 is the first of many that will fundamentally abandon the EQ/WoW model.

GW2 is NOT the pinnacle/end-of-the-road of this new direction - it's the first step (leap really) in the right direction.

We still have a long way to go.

But yes, when compared to everything that's been released after WoW, GW2 sure feels refreshing.

MMO History:
UO, SWG, WoW, E&B, EQ2, EVE, FFXI, GW2, LOTRO, RIFT, WAR
Beta/Trial: EVERYTHING else
Looking To: FFXIV, ESO, AA, BLACK DESERT

I feel the same as you OP

Never ever did i got that epic feeling back as in the older days.
For something like that to happen it needed to be one hell of a mmo and Arenanet just did it.

There are many issues and iam very positive they are working their butts off to fix alot of stuff.
But man what a blast to play this game.

Its hard
Its challeging
Its epic

WvW needs free transfers closed asap
Spvp is epic fun also
Seen a few Dragons and damn they where so unreal to fight, we had around 100 / 150 people to battle Shatterer and at that moment i just came when he landed.

Cant wait to see what those wizards at Seatle have in store for the next contend update :) !!!!!

Game gets a 9.0 overal from me, could have been a 10 if they would have closed free transfers ALOT sooner, but on the other side, people wanne join other guilds and join friends etc so meh i can forgive that little mistake.

You guys know I disagree. I still feel TSW is the better game.  TSW has GW2 licked in everything but amount of PvP content, and size of world. I'm trying to think of another place GW2 has TSW beat. spell animations aaaand um. Running and jumping animations.

GW2 is a casual players dream.  The ones that I see complaining are the hardcores and the traditionalists, which is fine as there are a lot of games out there that cater to those needs.

TSW beats all other recent MMOs in fewest copies sold. lol

It's your right to disagree of course, but that doesn't mean I understand it.  I thought TSW was horrible.

no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled

Tsw has a better story.

Most people don't play mmos for story though.

Really? I thought it was bland. The unique thing was the modern setting - that I will agree. The rest was just awful.
