It's actually pretty amazing how balanced the game is this early on. Still alot of work to be done but I don't feel like any class is over the top OP.

I had alot of problems with Mesmers (i'm a thief). Did like some ppl in this thread suggests, focus a bit more on survivability in my build. Currently running a venom share build with S/P. Compared to my earlier pistol whip burst build I now have double the toughness and 5k more HP.

My build might be slightly OP though, not many ppl are using it so not been a big issue yet, yesterday I held back 5 ppl outside their spawn. I use thieves guild with ambush trap that spawns another thief and the trait that has a 5% chance of summoning a rock dog. So I have 4 pets with pretty decent damage on my weapon skills.

First, there are no ranged classes in GW2. Second, you learn to deal with CC when you learn basics of PvP in any MMO.

QFF Quoted for falsity... I wouldn't come anywhere close to calling a Ranger anything close to melee. It's cool to argue his point but you can't be this nieve or maybe you're just trying too hard..

Game allow you to do multiple configurations. Someone hit you from range ? USE DAM BOW / PISTOL / RIFLE, GET CLOSE AND KICK HIS ASS. Don't whine because someone is better than you.

You expect what - that he will stand there and allow you to kick his ass ? You complain because someone killed you in PVP ? How pathethic is that ?

Balance will always be a problem because it's never ending problem of any MMO. But still I don't have big problems with range classes in this game. If you do - well that's just your problem.

BTW: I play as Guardian.

I agree though, the game is generally heavily unbalanced in pvp across the board.

 

I pvp with 5 different classes (6 soon) and i have no problem winning on neither , hell i take down guardians on my necro build. If there was such a huge inbalance between classes i would have noticed. Yes Warriors need to be tken down a notch and the current HS nerf doesnt quite cut it but those are quit minor inbalabces so far.

 

accros the board so near to launch it is very well balanced so far.

I'm still laughing at the guy who mentioned bull rush and hundred blades as being OP. "Every warrior tries it"? Um not the good ones. You might get away with it often enough in WvW but hell in Wvw half the time you can juse use 100b  and hit 3-5 people without them moving out of it. If you are talking sPvP and you are dieing to this you are just bad. I'm terrible at PvP and pathetic in sPvP and even I dont die to it in a 1v1 situation. Now the warriors who know wtf they are doing useing a hammer....ugh.

The pvp system in Guild Wars 2 is just fine.  If you are getting killed, change your tactics, change your weapons, change your traits, change your dyes.  Every class has their ups and downs.  Quit complaining about Anet.

Compared to all other MMO's, GW2 is as balanced as ive ever seen a game 1 month after release... it took WoW 2 expansions to balance it XD

Games im waiting for: Divinity:Original Sin, A hat in time, Stonehearth, Final Fantasy: Realm Reborn

This is so funny to listen to for me having played GW.

Almost like clockwork there was a new build every month in the first year of GW and every different one people were saying the others were OP'd until someone took them down.

The only one I remember being truly OP'd was the monk's balthazar ball that was nerf'd down, as it should have been.

This game is pretty balanced in my opinion. When people get multiple characters to 80 and can spend more time building team builds we'll see what's overpowered more than we can right now.

PvP is inbalanced, and truhtfully its not very likely ANY game will ever fully balance PvP. Its a reason why games like Everquest 2 relied on classes to balance each other out and focused on group play. 

On GW2, my mesmer is so much easier to play in PvP and stronger then my theif when it comes to anyone who has a brain. Sure, my thief can wreck someone quickly, but I can always just log on a warrior and have the same result but even quicker with the burst. Rangers (who I feel are retarded for PvE in how easy they are) can actually suffer in PvP quite a bit. I find them rather weak compared to other classes, granted I never played one so heck, I could be versing bad rangers.

The only issue Im really finding with imbalance in PvP is the balance between ranged and melee, in favor of melee.

My issue is the whole thing with melee skills matched up vs similar ranged skills (similar cooldowns & power level vs other skills of same type, similar CC or lack of CC,etc) typically doing close to double the damage. Add to that the fact that aside from a few specific single target skills or a specific weapon, every swing of your weapon is an AoE for melee, including the strongest ones (like HB on Warrior), but a lot of ranged often have to rely on single target except for like 1 skill (Ranger with Longbow for example, only having Barrage as an AoE on a long cooldown while every other skill is single target).

Now I get the whole trying to balance melee damage vs ranged damage thing in most games. Ranged typically has a lot of tools to use to stay out of melee range,s o to compensate they give melees more damage so that if they can catch them, they die faster. But with th way classes and skills are designed in GW2, there isnt as much of a need for it. Yes Ranged classes have CC, but usually melees also have a ranged form of CC for slowing down the kiters on top of the ability to break CCs and various ways of gaining Stability to be immune to CCs, and also charges and teleport / shadowstep abilities.

Basically what Im saying is that with the way GW2 has been designed, there doesnt seem to be, to me at least, a need to gimp ranged damage vs melee damage as there is in many games. Melees seem to have no problem getting into, and staying in, melee range. So the DPS needs to be more balanced, especially considering the AOE capabilities of a melee.

They also need to make some adjustments to the Ranger class and pets. I understand their whole philosophy of a Ranger needing to rely heavily on their pet to be effective. But the problem is, in PvP your pet often becomes completely useless. Sieges are a perfect example. Youre supposed to be using your pet to maximize your Ranger, yet wether youre ont he ground shooting people on walls, or on the wall shooting people on the ground your pet sits there doing absolutely nothing. There are a few pets that can attack from range, but with the current pet AI and slowness to respond even while having a ranged pet out they typically do very little to nothing to help since by the time they start going for your target that person has run back out of LoS and the pet goes back to sitting still. If the pets themselves cant be greatly improved in these situations, they really need to rework the class to allow for better non-pet reliant builds.

Then you have the entire argument of

 

1) Rock Paypa Scissors Bro! - The argument that it's not suppose to be balanced, as some classes are SUPPOSE to beat other classes. These people typically fail to realize that the game is unabalanced to the point where Rock crushes through four sheets of paper coated rocks to rape scissors.

2) Player Skill v. Character Skill- The argument of what is real skill in MMORPG's? Is player skill (reflexes, coordination, strategy, tactics, knowledge, gameplay experience) superior, or is it more important to have character skill (overpowered class, overpowered build, higher level, better gear, twinks, min/max exploitation of mechanics/character setups not intended to be as powerful as they are and later nerfed in a patch).

 

I'd say that WoW is balanced enough in Argument #2 to where I, as a great player, can take a partially twinked character and gimped class and wipe the floor with a twinked out character playing an OP class.

In GW2? Not really the case. I never met a single Warrior that could beat my builds, but that's because I was rolling exploitative game mechanics. I min/maxed the metagame to realize the power of being a tank, exploited overpowered abilities like Frenzy and Fear Me, and was next to impossible to kill while doing more damage than most players. Only players that could beat me in a duel were even MORE overpowered mesmers or bunker guardians, and I could beat them if I switched over to MY overpowered Mesmer.

 

What people fail to realize is a lot that is complained about is overpowered, but beatable. Unfortunately, it's irrelevant if it's beatable or not. It's still overpowered. I roll in such a way to roflstomp any other player, no matter how good they think they are. The only ones that can beat me are people more overpowered. I know it's not because they're better, because I can switch over to the same overpowered mechanics and faceroll them with more health than they had vs. my less OP build.

When you can hop on a Mesmer OP build and faceroll everyone, and then hop on to a Warrior OP build and faceroll everyone except people using that Mesmer OP build. Well...it's obviously not you as a player.
