I checked xfire yesterday to see hoe ToR was faring, but the list wasn't updated all day. The last results were from the 17th.

Today I checked, and there were results from both the 18th and the 19th.

The data from the 19th shows a bit of an uptick for ToR to #16.

What is kind of funny, is on the day that data wasn't reported on X-Fire, the 18th, Swtor had slipped from #18 down to 26th.

It fell beneath Eve at number 25.

While this dip could be explained by the servers being down for maintenance, I find it odd that the day SWTOR slipped beneath Eve on X-Fire, X-Fire didn't report results for the day.

See for yourselves. http://beta.xfire.com/games/swtor

and http://beta.xfire.com/games/eve

To go a bit further tinfoil, TOR Status has still not updated their server list although they are getting data input from the new Mega-Servers. When the new test High Population server was created, the list was updated immediately.

http://www.torstatus.net/shards/us/stats

Just odd.

Feel free to discuss and possibly suggest I need to get out more often.

Cheers.

Do you have any information on these "mega servers"?  I mean EA spun enough garbage around that I no longer believe them.  Mega Servers to them could mean an additional 50 players per server, or just a cumulation of dying servers into one.

Server usage is about the same, with the same standard, heavy ratings (http://www.swtor.com/server-status).  The only perceivable change was that there is now fewer servers.  Was there actually technology that went into this, or is it just another spin to promote SWTOR?

BTW, thank you in advance, your insight is always great.

I don't know how Mega the new Mega-Servers are.

The population test server just tranfered a clone og all East Coast charcters to one server, but was never used fo r anything.

That test server was introduced about a week ago.

About 3 days ago Bioware said they were transfering all the leftover origin server charcters to destination servers.

Without any real formal announcement, they made a list of the destination servers which had been upgraded to the new "Mega" tenchnology, missing from the list were 6 of the original destination servers.

A surprise server-merge without any ugly PR of announcing it.

Of the new 20 Mega-Servers, I don't know what the new "Higher Server Pop Cap" is, but I do know that last night at least 2 of the US East Coasr servers reached FULL and people were complaing of log-in queues on several of the servers in general.

The old pop-cap was a hair over 3,000. Again, I don't know what the new pop-caps are, but the American East Coast servers went from 8 servers to 5 servers and at least 2 hit full.. Draw what conclusions you will from that.

Aye I noted all the complaint threads about server queues when the patch hit.  My own conclusion is that these servers aren't very "mega".  It's likely a small % boost to the cap that is not worth mentioning to the press.   I mean, Mega Servers sounds way more impressive than making a statement about a 5% boost to cap .. :)

Keep 'em in check.

I thought this was very odd, apparently not many others do. Either that or I should have given the thread a more sensationalistic topic name.

The new megasersers are really ¨mega¨, one of those servers can hold all the players chars from the east cost servers, (PvP, PvE and RP), we will see on november with the F2P model how many players they can hold.

So is bioware just trying to say mega servers to get people back to the game, they don't get it, population isn't the main issue the issue is the issue of why people are leaving the game, their style choice to make the game just doesnt do it, they lack in the PvP competitive department, large scale.

Looking at: The Repopulation
Preordering: None
Playing: Real Life

The new test server is just a shell. Server load was never tested in any sort of capacity. The "testing" was voulantary, done over the course of a few days with a few random log-ins to see if charcters transfered over. There wasn't even any sort of official reporting for a positive or negative log-in confirmation in game that I am aware of. That was the extent of the "testing" for the new "Mega" servers.

SWTOR is at the low number of XFire players that you can't really rely on it when comparing it to other games with similarly low numbers of players.  The margin of error is just too high.

They are having Mega Server Mergers...

A stunning tactic in fashion even greater than the game itself..

PM before you report at least or you could just block.

I fully understand the shortcomings of X-Fire. I understand that it is only useful in spotting trends. Furthermore, I understand that the dip of SWTOR from #18 to #26 can be explained by the extended maintenence that was occuring that day. I also know that many do not comprehend this.

What I found odd was that the day in which SWTOR fell from #18 to #26, X-Fire didn't report any data for the entire day.

X-Fire reported data, with an updated rankings list on the 17th, and then not again till the 19th. On the 18th, SWTOR underwent a stealth server merge. It went from 26 servers to 20 a bit on the down low and with little fan fare. (Of the 20 remaining servers, 3 are dead or dying Australian servers, and a dying Jung MA RP-PVP server, so in reality, the population is spread across 16 servers.)

On the day that many sensationalists could have gloated about SWTOR falling beneath EVE online on the X-Fire ranks, X-Fire did not report any data.

I guess you could say it was because X-Fire changed their web layout late on the 19th. (They added videos) But it still seems odd that there was data report for the 17th, none for the 18th, data for the 19th, many hours later an updated design web page.

You can say it's rather tinfoil hatty, and I concede that. I just stated that it was odd.

The new videos added are also a bit funny in what can happen with arbitrary chosing of a fan loaded video.

Compare and contrast SWTOR's random video: http://beta.xfire.com/games/swtor

with WoW's : http://beta.xfire.com/games/wow

That's not odd, that's funny.

"But it was so artistically done..." - Grand Admiral Thrawn's final words

I think that they might be doing the same as they do at launch and keep the limits for population at lower level for now and rise it up as f2p will come.

Obviously they did not have means to test it. So I think they stress test right now and slowly rise the limits.

On first day they had queues for more then 1500 players on some servers and I do not think they have it right now.

F2P will see population rise and then we will see...

Edit: All servers were origin servers... the destination servers were named as one of the origin... that messed a lot of people up. Not sure about Oceanic servers... these ones they might keep normal, as they initially did not get 12 stots.

Well dang.

X-Fire is getting just more and more confusing.

The new (beta in the address) main site no longer reports the previous day's rank, making the links I put originally in the thread sort of useless.

http://beta.xfire.com/games/swtor

The old version still does, but whatever.

They have people just working on new technology for the game, still it put people on instances like (fleet 1, fleet 2, fleet 3) but one server can hold a huge amount of people and characters, the new F2P model will bring to the game an insane amount of players,  probably more than 2 mill so they new a ¨superserver technology¨ to dont make the same mistake of more than 64 servers again.

Their servers had that phasing technology previously. Perhaps you didn't see it because you were on a low population server.

This isn't a demonstrative of new "Mega" technology. Prior to the "Mega" technology SWTOR full servers had a cap of about 3,000 concurrent players; as opposed to WoW who's small servers cap at 4,000 and their larger servers which cap at 8,000 concurrent players.

Get a /who that is greater then 3,000 players by a fair margin to demonstrate "Mega" servers. Also tell us if their is any server-side lag and how FPS is doing.
