Despite my skepticism, I'm getting excited for DF:UW. I can't help it. I want this game to succeed, or at least be a lot more successful than DF.

Let's hope Aventurine can pull it off this time. Darkfall's first release was solid, but far from perfect. But even with all the flaws, Darkfall gave me more enjoyment out of an MMO than any themepark ever has.
If they now have the manpower and resources, aswell as the base framework (code, engine, ect.) set up properly, and they resolved the critical issues (grind and GUI notably), this could be a very succesful sandbox title. |

Because if there's any kind of message that other developers or publishers could take from DarkFall if it were to succeed is that, you can be a total prick to your customers, lie to them constantly, and they'll still flock in masses to buy your product.
It's the worst kind of message to send. ------ |

I love Darkfall I just didn't have a computer available to grind afk 24/7. I also didn't exploit my way to capped skills like a huge percentage of the playerbase. Besides that it's a great game. I'm hoping a "skillcap" is introduced.

reading of the gamestyle of Darkfall made me always curious on how it was playing it, but the gfx turned me a bit off. Now is there any link/footage already disponible ? I heard of a launch on November 20th 2012 so I guess there is already a bit material around.
Anyone ?
I would really appreciate it. Thnx |

The only way I go back is if they introduce a system that stops you from being a master of all trades. It doesn't even have to be a hard cap, just some system that prevents exploiters and AFK grinders from getting a huge gap on the general player base. Ultima Online stayed popular for quite a while due to their skill caps.
I also think the combat system needs an overhaul. It needs to be easier to switch between weapons and not go in and out of 3rd/1st person view. You should have the option of either, exclusively, based on your preference in the game settings. And clearly the GUI needs serious love.
They have promised the world before. I'm going to wait and see on this one. |

Originally posted by DAS1337 The class system does exactly what you and many other people (myself included) want. Limits you to one of 4 roles, Elementalist, Ranger, Priest, Warrior. Each role has been said to have 4 parts to it where only two can be used at one time. They've said you will be able to change roles quiet easily so there is still long term progression but you don't need to grind every ability to compete like now and the jack of all trades will be non-existant. You will have to stick to 1 role at a time and even then you're only allowed 2 of 4 paths within each school. For example, Elementalist you can choose from Fire, Water, Air, Earth BUT only two at a time.
For combat they've added momentum and wobble, people think this will reduce the mega-fast arcade pace of the current pvp combat and add more skill.
New GUI from scratch, looks shiny. |

Originally posted by TruthXHurts I never had to grind 24/7 or exploit.. i just played and enjoyed the game sure it took me a few months for me to be any good in pvp but it didnt matter as i had fun getting there.. Being with a good clan made it even better.
There is still no skillcap from what i have read but more of a class system, so you can specialise as say a warrior and it wont take you that long to get enough skills to be good.. You can switch classes but not on the fly so if your fighting as a warrior you can just swap out to a mage in the middle of a fight.. Also as a warrior you wont have access to any high lvl spells.. as a mage you wont be able to wear heavy armor and so on.. |

Originally posted by ah9559 Just read the updates, watch the announcement video or go to the "available info" thread here on mmorpg.com and you don't have to ask questions like that anymore. Sometimes I wonder why some folks can't be arsed to read up on a subject themselves, but happily waste time by typing random, uniformed questions which are clearly answered in easily available posts on several sites. People nowadays, lazy bastards.. : ( |

Originally posted by Fondel Well yea I get that but we are a small niche group. Hardcore pvp'rs who like full loot. That is a small percentage of the market. I wish it were a lot bigger but even a few hundred thousand playing this game would be a win for this company imo. I mean there are a lot of people who love pvp but cannot stand the fact that if killed they lose everything. I think it is fun to be quite honest. I don't get attached to my gear and if I get something that is awesome I know I will eventually lose it but oh well that is the game. Maybe if I am lucky I can get it back. I hope this game does better than the first one. I want more games to go back to being sandbox style. I am so sick of instances. I look forward to playing this game. Really either way there is nothing like it around or anything coming out anytime soon. My friends are all going to play and I am a social gamer. With this new announcement it really seems people are fired up. The game itself was great and everyone who played DF will attest to it. Unfortunetly problems killed the game. I hope they really got everything up to snuff with it. I gotta commend this game company for listening to the community and scraping an expansion for a rerelease. I wonder how this would fair for other games. I hope they get it right and this isn't going to be another "we learned from our mistakes" and have another like FFXIV on our hands. |
