WAR is the only mmorpg to give me those "Oh, $#!+" PvP moments. An honest feeling of peril and loss exists with every keep loss and battleground defeat. Players of the above referenced games should ask themselves, what is the point of our PvP? Where does it leave the world (in which we have chosen to escape) as far as consequence to our faction's side? Is their any win or loss consequence? Only WAR has provided that experience.

Despite declining population, I choose to play that which is fun and not chase the next best thing. Otherwise, your desktop begins to look much like mine--until this very moment.

Enjoy your re-visit to WAR, after all choosing to play what is fun to you is a personal choice...

I will be sticking with GW2 because i choose to play what is fun to me...;)

Playing GW2..

Declining population is putting it lightly, the game is all but dead.

Go have a look at the state of things on the official forums, it's all true.

I suppose my overall point is the persistent need for gamers alike to fall for that 'next bing thing'. It seems very much to be a case of addeled fanboi's melting into their Ritalin laced juices. Where's the prolonged satisfaction in a game?

Certainly, I have fallen for it recently. Well, not anymore.

I began my trek back in 1999 with the original EQ. Played DAoC for five years. WoW for two. LotRO for five (which I continue to play). I jumped into Warhammer Online during the early access pre-order days and have only briefly left that world. My entries into GW, Rift, AoC, GW2, and Tera were all short lived.

I wonder however, why they just dont fix this game instead of making a spin-off "Wrath of Heroes" that will most likely fail even harder.

Agreed.  WAR is best PVP on market atm.  Too bad more people aren't playing.

WIn loss consequence in WAR? Most of WAR amounts to either a) winning and getting points or b) losing and still getting points from pity ticks

Push to the enemy city? Oh yay, theyre locked out for an hour. Woohoo.

Only purpose to continuing to play the game is for the RR grind to 100 for gear, then you get it and theres nothing left to gain in the game.

Sorry, but I played WAR on and off since launch and was back on it right up until GW2 launch, and while the PvP is fun there is no real consequence to anything. Theres a reason why T1 zones are full of unlimited trial twinks throughout the day and the rest of the game is dead except for T4 during primetime. Its just as meaningful winning in T1 as it is in T4.

I find it hilarious that the GW2 defenders still take time from defending its own forum and actually play the game to bash other game and read the forums from a game they are not interested in.  Its really gotten out of control with them.

On a side note: Whats changed in WAR in the last few years content and mechanic wise.  Are T2-T3 nothing more than fighting your war into a warband so you can base trade with the other side and renown grind?  Is the endgame in this game active at all?

I know that the  "best" part of this game, T1 is free for an unlimited time, use to have a copy of war and a seperate free account just so i could jump into some quick zerg pvp fun in T1 which was always fun...or is that dead now to?

Its sad seeing a game like this die slowly.  This game had potential, and it had the kind of pvp that was sorely wanted by the community back when it launched.  Perhaps it was just overhyped too much like another game that takes after it?

War was in many ways a great game.  I truly enjoyed the scenarios and the back and forth of the zones.  Unfortunately the fortress battles were a real mess, and the city battles stank.

The big problem was population inbalance though.  I ended up in a merge situation where I was placed onto a server with a HORRID inbalance of population.  This ended with me just having to quit -- having them invade your capital FOUR TIMES in a day just isnt fun.  I actually moved my alt to a different server but what was the point really -- I found I didnt want to do the PVE to get PVP grind again(going from 40r63 with mostly superior wards(silly 1/5 day dungeon)) to what ended up as 40r40 or so with no wards was -- well I didnt want to run the dungeons again.

I have considered coming back a few times just to see but I figure now I would be so very outclassed (the difference between 40r63 and 40r80 with gold gear is just too sick) and for all I know the inbalance may still be there.  Plus my characters are scattered across servers.

If you watch a game, it’s fun. If you play it, it’s recreation. If you work at it, it’s FF-XIV.

I'm glad your playing a game that you like. I'm also glad you posted it in the right forums. It seems not a lot of people can do both of these things anymore kudos to you.

I big time agree with this thread, Warhammer by far has a better PvP dynamic than GW2. Although PvE in Warhammer straight up sucked, I think they could work those issues out.

Also, they should make the game free to play all the way up to level 40 RR 100 and make it where people bought packs in the game to open up gear packs, weapon packs at a decent cost.

i also whole hardly agree that SWTOR was a big waste of their resources, Warhammer is by far a better looking and playing game (just fix the exploits and buggy animations).

Anyone who started playing war again lately knows how big the download is ?My net is quite limited ,this is why I ask.I still have fun in gw2 but mostly in pve (which was the boring part for me in war) while wvw is not very interesting to me probably because of too much running around, less xp than pve,no way to be a real healer class etc.As many problems war had ,I enjoyed pvping there in rvr lakes,I liked the classes ,the way tanks could block you,the fact your character can be a dedicated healer.

ermm... warhammer pvp... yeaaaa... idea was good but...

a) scenarios are a joke, they are designed.... flawed.

b) open world... rvr... if you like circle zerging, warhammer is your game.

otherwise everything after zone 2 was realy boring, sorry.

Seriously? I'm not trying to troll or anything but WAR was a farcry from a good PvP game. To me it was the first modern example of the downfall of PvP in an MMO...mainly due to the importance of instanced pvp, lack of exploration and worlds that are so very roped off and guided and instanced. Being able to just fast travel to any land in a heart beat. Capital city battles that effected no one in the actual city....because its just an instanced mini game.

Im coming from UO, EQ, DAOC days and I even played Warhammer fantasy table top since I was 9 years old so I have love for Warhammer. But once you put such an emphasis on removing players from a world to get their pvp done...it feels fake and worthless to me. We need a modern version of DAOC with a little shadowbane and AoC features mixed in that actually works, is fun and gives players the freedom and flexibility to do what they want.

Importance on instanced PvP? Scenarios are a part of the game but most PvP happens in the open world, not instanced in any way.

Instanced cities: you have to be realistic and accept that there's a limit on the number of players any server can handle in a small area of the game which means in some cases instances are a necessity.

Warhammer is about as free as you can get. You log on you can choose to do SC's, roam in open zones for large or small scale fights or join in sieges. The only thing that is forced is city sieges when all zones have been captured by one side. They last for 1 hour and then the zones are reset and you go back about doing what you want to do. I keep reading the term "theme park" in reference to warhammer on these boards but in fact the game is more sandbox than any game I've played. You log on and make your own fun, other players are the content making it more dynamic and unpredictable than any pve/theme park type game. The terms thempark and WAR don't belong in the same sentence in any way no matter how far you stretch the definition.
