Been thinking about picking up this game and interested in the PvP. Specifically, the WvWvW System. I was just wondering how balanced the PvP system is. Most games (like TOR) is all about griding for obscene amoounts of time to min max and stat stack your way through tier after tier of PvP gear and victory requiring very little skill at all. Is GW2 the typical super gear >skill fest? Or, is it more balanced creating more of a level playing field? Thanks. |

there' is some gear seperation in WvW but overall it's not too bad since everyone is bumped to level 80 in raw stats.. sPVP everyone is on even playing field and is purely based on your skill/your teams skill.. it's the least gear dependent themepark PVP I can remember playing in a very long time.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg |

Thanks Aerowyn. Its becoming more tempting to pick up a copy. Been playing TOR lately and it is just so frustrating when you cant do anything against players in PvP due to the huge gear gap. |

I've just recently joined an e-sports team on Dragonbrand and the rest of my teammates are absolutely loving the PvP, especially where sPvP and Tournies are concerned. There is zero gear discrepancy in sPvP or a Tournament, everything is dependant on your build and your skill as an individual working with a team. |

Originally posted by Lugoves this is a good read http://www.guildwars2hub.com/guides/structured-pvp/guide-structured-pvp also WvW can get a bit zergy but there is a lot of other options to not follow the zerg and be helpfull in the battle the maps are HUGE... they are still working out the server rankings to balance out the better servers a bit more.. WvW is a LOT of fun and is always packed with people. I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. In terms of SPvP - every class (profession) is competitive enough to be on somebody's Tournament roster. The team that has better tactics will almost always win. But I would be lying if I said ithe classes are perfectly balanced. Their not. But thats to be expected. No game's PvP was ever balanced at launch. |

Originally posted by Aerowyn Thats not really true, although A-Net would like everyone to think otherwise, gear and level matter a huge amount unless your in a zerg. The "boost" is really basic and does not put you on anywhere near and even playing field as your lvl 80 enemies. It's a pale immitation of SWTOR's bolster system. The second i hit an enemy i know pretty much what level bracked they are in by the damage they suffer. I can 2-shot most boosted players, who hit me back for less than 1k, it's a sick joke. The worst of it is im not even a half-decent pvper, yet i destroy better players simply because im higher level, have better gear and abilities. However, on topic pvp isn't balanced, as there is no trinity all classes should be equal, that is simply not the case in pvp. Class disparity isn't too bad, but it's enough to make-or-break the outcome of fights that if all classes were equal, would have gone the other way if the outcome was simply based on player skill. However, in WvWvW it's all immaterial, it's a zerg game and numbers = win. Still, GW2 is a great game and a lot of fun. |

Originally posted by Zinzan i haven't had many issues at all on my level 10 in WvW... not saying I'm dominating anything but I do enough damage and can play support well enough to be helpfull which is much more than I can say for other MMOs where i just started out in PVP... I have yet to be 2 shot in PVP unless you are getting direct hit from a seige weapon.. also the zerg=win in WvW isn't true(with a compatent server) but I'm guessing you guys are playing without anyone in command and leading the map.. i have had couple days where we had a good leader and did very well and it seemed we were outnumbered yet still held our own and other days there's very little map chat and everyone was just running where they thought they should be with no rhym or reason. i'd say more than half the people in WvW have no clue what they are doing and just follow the pack.. give it a couple months and battes should get a hell of a lot better once you have a greater % of the population actually knowing what's going on. I hear alot of complaints about WvWvW being a zergfest. There are many different options, you don't HAVE to follow the zerg. My comp cant handle the zergs so I usually try to cut of reinforceing enemys and roam around with friends searching for smaller groups. It's not even hard to find 2v2 , 2v3 fights etc

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias. |

WvW? EH... some classes will outshine others but at least its WvW so individual classes don't matter as much. WvW is pretty much more so what has the bigger zerg. In a sPvP focus... there class imbalance yes. Its not at least a massive imbalance but simply put there are some classes that are stronger then others. Balance is something that is near impossible to ever fully achieve though so in regards to this, the game is not the most balanced game I've seen, but its no where near the worst. |
