BTW if you've gotten "no lore" that's your fault for running from heart to heart without speaking to NPCs, reading clickies etc.

I love that people complain about a "linear themepark" but then expect for everything to be in a quest box or "it's not there".

Actually I'm avoiding speaking to any of NPCs and I also skip all dialogue because I honestly haven't seen so absolutely bad story/dialogue in any MMO. It's so infantile like written by 12 year olds to 12 year olds. And those voice overs... Are they even human voices or machines?

Game mechanics are ok imo and GW2 cities are by far the best I've ever seen. But yeah - cannot stand any of lore, story or dialogue.

 ^ This guy gets it.

Oh and don't forget the fanboys will use the, "you must need to go back to gear games because you suck at video games and life" tactic.

GW2 is dry and lacking in the fun department, in my opinion, because every zone ends up feeling the same. Everyone is a jack of all trades- no real specialites - or at least none that I could see during the week or two of playing. And WvW is the same zergfest over and over and over again. Good thing it is B2P, otherwise thier collapse would be at SWTOR levels if not higher (P.S. I had more fun with SWTOR than I have with GW2)

After playing for the last few weeks (since h-start), I'm completely bored with the game as well.

This game is a month long theme park that plays like a movie, if you take your time. After hitting max level, I feel like i'm watching the credits waiting for one of those after-movie story snippets that just isn't there.

WvW is simply a zerg fest, which is no big surprise given typical mass-group tactics in MMOs and the encouragement of individualistic play-style with the jack-of-all-trades class characteristics. The depth of strategy is, "Everyone zerg this location. Now everyone go zerg this location" If you can't take the location, "Rally more gits for more dakka" until you can zerg again.

I do keep hearing players touting the individualistic (JoAT) class system in-game for being unique and being "evolutionary", but after playing for the last few week I find it quite detrimental to the overall gameplay and far from an improvement. The RIFT soul-system, which precedes this game, actually does a better job of getting rid of the "We absolutely can't do this dungeon without a healer" talk while maintaining the group reliance feel via an extensive amount of spec choices and spec swapping.

In all fairness, the game world looks nice visually and it's fun while leveling up the first time, but when you hit max level you either re-roll, grind grind grind, or zerg around a poor DAoC Battleground re-hash with your guild (or solo). Evading is a nice addition, and the improvement on WAR's PQs is great, but that's about it as far as I can tell.

Dayum shame, although I bought this game with low expectations I had high hopes.

No.  The second I saw who started the topic I had a read then a good laugh at the concern-troll.   There are a few others with whom it's the same.

lol.   No.   You were concern-trolled.   The guy has spent his entire GW2 posting history trashing the game and makes numerous mistakes in the details to an extent that one can not take him seriously or credulously if one has invested any time in playing the game.

FANS criticize the game for it's real flaws.   Not a bunch of imaginary flaws that aren't in the game or flaws of the player who clearly does not get it.

And when some troll comes in and spouts off a bunch of nonsense, yeah he gets thumped.  It's the way of it.

Rift lore was/is extremely bad and the worst NPC line of all times also comes from Rift: "Years to make, seconds to purchase" (said by vendors if you buy something). In the end it's all matter or taste and I'm describing GW2 and Rift lore/story/dialogue problems only from MY perspective. For some or many there are no problems at all.

So, in order for perceived flaws to be real flaws one must be a fan of the game.

Thus only fans can really and truly criticize the game.

A fan is

2. A person who has a strong interest in or admiration for a particular sport, art or entertainment form, or famous person.

This is a problem, as someone who is no longer interested in (or no longer admires) the game is no longer a fan. This means that the only people who can criticize the game are those that are still interested in (or admire the game).

Sounds like essential fanboy logic 101.

If they don't like what we like, they don't understand. The problem doesn't exist.

i agree its all opinion

from my own experiences, most mmo npcs stand around like statues w no dialogue unless you interact w them

FANS criticize the game for it's real flaws.   Not a bunch of imaginary flaws that aren't in the game or flaws of the player who clearly does not get it.  MANY people have the same issues and feel the same flaws, its not about getting it, your rabid defense is as usual boring and full of more holes than a piece of swiss cheese, because people dont enjoy what you do does not mean they are imaginary , we are not required to "get it" to enjoy a game, the concept of GW2 was cool , the execution of alot of the concepts ended up not impacting on alot of people , in fact there are no ways to really gauge any of it at this point, end of the day Anet got some nice box sales, people are populating the servers enough for you to enjoy the game, why do you bother to read forums and use such terribad defenses of games because it isnt others cup of tea, get overyourselves already, GW2 is a decent game almost all people who post here with negative views still have a bunch of good things to say about it, im really starting to think these defenders of the realm are worried about server population or else they would be having way too much "FUN" in game to be here posting such mindless defenses over and over.

Way too much of this stuff is simple opinion and personal feeling which are not wrong or right.  Trolls or no trolls many people do NOT enjoy GW2 and good for them.... oh wait your just about to tell me to go back to WoW right ?

And when some troll comes in and spouts off a bunch of nonsense, yeah he gets thumped.  It's the way of it.

oh and yes: you're wrong ;)

The op was being polite in his posting and sharing his experience. What reason did you find to be a jerk?

Because he's blaspheming their sacred cow, by daring to voice a negative opinion about some aspect of it. It was over for him the moment he started typing.

It's the same crap every time. It goes something like this...

"OP's negative opinion of the game don't match my own? Well, obviously they're a troll who isn't even playing the game, or hasn't  (enter arbitrary moving goalpost here) yet, so their opinions don't count. Anyone who doesn't love this game as I do needs to go away."

My philosophy on MMORPGs:

Leveling is what happens while you're playing the rest of the game.

Don't worry about levels. Just play.

^^ Thanks for clearing this up for me! I am Level 49 and I have not the slightest idea, what's the big story behind it! (But I have to admit, I could'nt bring myself to play my personal story any further, as the Asura storyline must be the most boring storyline ever.

Personally I think, of all MMOs I played so far, Guild Wars' PvE-Part is one of the worst.

But as I see it, it isn't the fault of the game. I don't think that A-Net broke any promises. Its simply my fault! I should have read the announcements before investing my 50 bucks.

Yeah well sadly I feel A-nets game making approach panders to exactly the kind of gamer you invison.

Obviously not. Maybe on the surface it might seem that way, but clearly those type of players are not understanding the depth available (don't care to try and understand), and are burning out very quickly, as evidenced by threads like this one. GW2 is designed for gamers interested in depth, a living world, exploration, and self-initiated social play. In other words, the journey for the journey's sake. It's certainly not going to be for everyone.
