I find dynamic events and hearts more boring than "wow questing". The variety of quests in gw2 is poor. It's either fend X waves of enemies, take a camp, collect X things on the ground or escort quests. At least in WoW when you visit an area for the first time it actually feels new.

Seriously, this is called "innovation" nowadays?

This reminds me putting lipstick on a cow. It´s still a cow but at least it´s slightly prettier now.

Umm actually even NPC in GW2 have these circle over their heads to trigger DE's.

And lots don't.   There is a DE in Queensdale lumber mill.   You have to find the unmarked NPC to trigger it.   There is a DE at the Queensdale lodge, you have to find the unmarked NPC to trigger it.   There are more DEs in Queensdale that are rarely done because they require triggers and very few us have found them.  There are still FIVE of the THIRTY-ONE DE chains in Queensdale I haven't done because they're not automatic and I don't know which NPC to trigger and, so far, nobody in any of those areas has figured it out either!   And when I bring up my new elementalist, I'll make her a human to see if I can find those five quests...

This game rewards people who don't play it like WoW, SWTOR or some other lame quest-hub MMO.  And for that, I am grateful.

Why not build an MMO for the people and not just the money. The money comes with the people, get it?

I wish some GW2 bashers would read what you wrote. You nailed it perfectly...

I agree that most of them are boring. As to the WoW portion I disagree because in WoW the quests were the same when you went to a different zone. How many poo quets were there again I cant remember? How many times did I need to collect or kill something in a different zone? I guess we can agree to disagree because I certainly remember doing the same shit repeatedly in WoW in different zones. There were certainly some memorable moments, but I have already found quite a feww hidden nuggets in GW2 that are above and beyond WoW's IMO.

People are actually taking this topic seriously? I'm impressed OP. Nice one...

EDIT: Ah I see, this is in response to the article that was put up. Okey dokey.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Certain escort DE's have circle triggers sure, but definately very few in comparison to the overall amount. In all honesty, how much sense would it make for am escort DE to not be triggered since the NPC's are needing..... you ..... an escort. Be kinda dumb to have them trigger on their own without anyone around IMO.

To the OP, you come off as very bitter. Of course these key elements are stil around in a themepark MMO, but the delivery is what the concept was all about and you seem to have missed that among the many times the topic has been brought up here on these forums.

I triggered these NPC with circles over there head not just for escort. I also triggered a event this way where i had to disguise a seperatist and sabotage a charr fire legion base. Another one i trigerred where we had to attack the base which later on developed into a very big event with a giant attacking the town.

So not limited to just escorts. Anyways, OP seems to be under impression that in GW2 NPC don't give you tasks or quests like in your usual everyday MMOS.

Well the point still stands. If there is a visual trigger it is because of the event and not because these are normal. I don't think this is what the OP was saying at all, he was labeling quest hubs as yellow circles called DE's and he doesn't have to click a NPC to begin said quests. As I just stated, aside from a few exceptions, he is correct on that part at least. The rest seems like an angry rant because he wanted to play a MMORPG and he got one.

I chose the escort example because most of the ones with visual trigger I have encountered were of this variety so I didnt feel the need to go into every example. I see you didnt have that problem >.>.

The way i read it i thought he was upset because there ws no traditional way of doing tasks / quests so i was just trying to tell him that there are NPC's with circles over there head to trigger events in case he wants to get a familiar feeling.

A lot of players, myself included, missed starting a lot of DEs because we didn't realize that person asking for help actually started DEs.  They either needed a tutorial to explain this to new players or needed to mark those npc's somehow.

But you learned.   You may have been slow to get it, despite in all the forum talk that went on from April until release about these kind of DEs, but it taught you two things that had they been in a tutorial, chances are you'd have skipped it or forgotten within an hour:

1.  NPCs who are talking often have something important to say.

2.  Pay attention to the environment and what it contains or you're going to miss out.

I have.   I've done it four times now for map-completion bonuses and to ferret out additional DEs.   I thought I had them all, only to find out I'd missed five.

I figure that I may as well do it on the up instead of the down as I have to delete my elementalist (I reserved a name for my daughter and she's downloading the game right now...) and start her over with a new name.

Yet another absurd topic.  In all of fiction, there are 7 archtypes to story line.   Should people stop writing books because everyone of them has been done to death?

Of course not.

And so it goes in games.  You have delivery, you have destruction, you collection, you have escorting.    These are archtypes.   What matters is the set-up and execution.    Nothing more.   Nothing less.

I can come with at least some more which do not necessarely fit under your "archetypes": survival, construction, escape, phychological manipulation, puzzles, reflex-based.

Lies. There are still quest hubs. They are just cleverly hidden, or not.

Now instead of logging into my Orc, as example, cranking up ITunes and going out to kill. I must log into my Asura, not turn on ITunes, since I have to listen for, "Hey, can you help me?" from NPCs. As far as DEs go, I try to avoid them, as they often lead me accross the map to where I don't want to be.

At least the "World is alive." Too bad I find it more fun to smash to music of my choice instead of some movie score.

I like GW2, but that is all. Bonus it is non-sub-based.

I actually find the GW2 style of questing much harder to do.  The only thing that is even remotely interesting is the main story quest which really makes a up a very small % of questing.  Aside from that quests are boring and imo(and yes I know a lot of people disagree and that is fine we all have our opinions) stupid.  DE are stupid, and hearts are the worst questing concept ever invented.  I would much rather have a quest chain with at least some type of story I can read or just click through and ignore then have to roll up on a heart and do the same thing over and over for really no reason, that is not questing that is a job, kind of like how you could make money in Fable by filling mugs at the bar or chopping wood.  Sure it was a fun little past time but to make that the backbone of your questing, sorry not for me.  GW2 is officially "not for me" I would rather go play a MUD.

Last time I say this, HEARTS are NOT Dynamic Evetns by any stretch of the definition they were put in place for the benefit of those that are used to questing hubs that they cannot play the damn game without them.....! for the rest that does get it and goes out and plays the damn game we don't bother with these at all for participating in DE's.

It's mmorpg's own stubburn and chnges resisting idiots that are responsible for these being present in this game, the original idea was to not have static quests at all just dynamic events all over the world. but in QA it was apparent that many just didn't get the idea of free exploration andd discovery apparently they have never played a console RPG in their lives.

If you don't like leveling that way, just level up in WvW and visit your story along the way.
