An Open Letter to those responsible.
Dear Arenanet, or more likely the chumps at the American NCSoft offices, please fire the hacks you farmed this project out to and do a trailer that reflects the spirit and artistic integrity of the game, and not a cheap gimmick brainstormed in 3 minutes by a college dropout on a napkin during his lunch break, thank you. You know, like every single trailer and preview video you have released for GW2 in the last three years. You have just released one of the best thempark MMORPGs ever made, don’t let the imbeciles in your ad department screw it up.
Yours in Tyria.

ARE YOU READY .......................... TO HAVE SOME FUN?
these 3 are much better IMO:) strange because they made the "get ready" trailer and thought that, while short, was well done I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg |

After watching that, they would have been far better off going for a Manifesto like clip, rather than that. And I agree with the earlier comment, the majority of that video seems more appropriate for TSW than GW2.
But on the up-side, we now know what the eyeball picture from the FB page a couple weeks ago was from. |

Terrible trailer quite possibly the worst I've ever seen for a game.
GW1's was right up there with the best that thing is just meh. |

Second one? No it is not worse. Technically it is bad (it is old thou), and bit embarasing to watch, but it does not use cheap psychological tricks like "join revolution" like GW2 or "EQ is cool to play, hot chicks play it too so you might even get to know them". It says what game basically is about. So no second one is not worse. |

Man, that trailer had everything. If I didn't buy the game before watching that, I would of been racing to get it soon after. Woo boy.

i get that there are artistic hidden messages but the way it was executed was cheaply done and full of out of place cliches and distractions. The only things that stood out were dirty guy, gas mask, people stepping on coals, wet boobs, and dragon. IT WAS SO AWFUL. |

Originally posted by Requiem1066 Psh, I get more enjoyment on my char dancing than that video. Can't believe they went so far as making them bounce so life like. I was just chilling in an instance at level 80 and was the first time doing my dance when it caught my eye. Thank god I took the biggest pair on my human. woot woot. |

I think they know more about what they are doing than we do. We got our trailers and are playing the game right now if we intended to. That video is for a different audiance.
I assume though that they knew this type of reaction would happen with current fans and are probably laughing along with us. Dear developers, In my humble and inexperienced opinion if I can get through all the content you spent the last 5+ years working on within 6 months you have not done your work justice. Please give me, and everyone else, some tools to create our own content from what you have made so I can stay in your world and appreciate it longer than three weeks before I say "meh". It's a shame and I'd rather not do that to something you put so much of yourself in to. |

Seriously though, I agree they should have used something more like those videos, IMO. Subtlety doesn't work all that well in trailers and ads so with very few exceptions, I don't think most people will be psyched to check out GW2 just based on that.
Sorry, Anet, but you f'd up that one. It doesn't happen often but it happens. |

I've only been able to see the video muted. I don't understand the gas mask. Are they trying to imply that the current genre stinks? Oh well, will watch it in an hour when I get home.

Hi - resident GW fanboy here. But let me just state my opinion as objectively as always:
That trailer sucks as badly as SWTOR the game sucks.
What a contrast between the marketers ideation and the collective developers vision. Something was lost in the translation along the way. That trailer conveys some amorphous "rebellion" of a twenty-something group of kids with 20 seconds of game footage. It's one big shrug. Re: SWTOR "Remember, remember - Kakk says 'December.'" |

It's a well done video just entirely inappropriate for what it is supposed to be promoting. It's clear that their was absolutely zero conversation between ANET and the director. As a result, it comes off as extremely pretentious.
Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros |

I bet this trailer was written and directed by the same people who wrote the in-game storylines and voice-over scripts. I bet they thought it was good, too.
ANET really needs to hire some professional writers. Maybe look into picking up the ones fired from TSW. |
