What the hell are you noobs bitching about? You wanna know the first encounter I ever had with a flying ship in a fantasy environment? It was 1975 and we were playing a D&D campaign.... You people seriously need to get over yourselves for a minute and look a little deeper into the history of these things, before you go spouting off like your some kinda game-guru.

Originally posted by voxnor Well he did specify MMO in the post, so we can safely rule out all of the other sources for this type of encounter, and focus on just that genre. In which case, the only other game I've played where I've seen that is WoW. So he could be referencing that encounter, which is fairly recent. If there was another Airship vs Dragon encounter in another MMO, I'm not aware of it. I guess by your post I thought you knew of an MMO before WoW that had done this. Hey OP. Other fantasy games did it before WoW... but I assume you're not "leaving now". We always knew which side your bread was buttered on anyway, I don't expect your own hypocrisy to open your eyes. Have fun going back to the melting pot of all generic fantasy cliches.

I think the OP is refering to the final fight with Zhaitan and the simiarities with Deathwing, mainly in the sense that both battles are quite poor. Atleast i think so. After all, air ships, undead, dragons, etc are quite in fantasy rpgs. |

To clear thing up yes I was refering to the WoW fight just before deathwing spine raid encounter. I can slso see how this post might have across as a bit of troll, wasn't meant that way but an obvervation that I know had the tables be turned people would be up in arms on these forums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJle_eEfTPQ&feature=related though the GW2 one looks more epic.

Originally posted by Robsolf I think Conan fought those in the 30s already so it is not a new concept in fantasy no. Flying ships against dragons is not a new concept either, seen it in Dragonlance from the late 70s-early 80s and I doubt they were first. Original fantasy is something rather rare. |

Originally posted by expresso It's good to have an open mind. I don't hate WoW, but it's true that a lot of its ideas have been done before. I guess that's why I didn't see the sense of the topic at first. Even when I was playing it, I knew where it drew inspiration (or just plain copied) from. GW2 shouldn't get any more or less of a "pass". no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

Even though I am a fan of Warhammer table top I never hated on Warcraft for how much they used from it and actually enjoyed it all the same.

Originally posted by colddog04 They did actually invent several languages for the game, but all written languages. There are signs and writing, and they havnt released any translation. It took a long time before anyone figured out the one from GW1 and here there are several. So if you are bored and like working with a weird alphabet the challange is on. |

Originally posted by Xzen Im a Warhammer fan too, but they have borrowed a lot as well from others. There is not much new in fantasy (and yes, red is faster, that Warhammer invented). |

This is pretty much the equivalent of how the OP read to me: "They're going to fight the giant squid in a big pirate ship. How original... I'm leaving..." Dragons are huge and they fly. An airship is the most fitting nature vs. machine theme you can really come up with for a dragon. As undead go, it's basically taking tragedy up a notch. Dying due to something involving a loved one, or through the betrayal of a friend, and coming back for vengeance or to right that wrong; well... that concept obviously didn't start with Patrick Swayze. As far as the argument that another MMO "did that already"... MMO's aren't really a genre unto themselves, they're a medium for which to place a genre. 2 games being MMO's that have these events/themes in their stories is really irrelevent. |

Originally posted by expresso What I took away from this was what the videos narrator said himself. the End boss fight was "Easy, antyone at all could do it". That the fight and most others required no stratagy at all. The end boss fight could be done withh his equiepement destroyed and allies stuck in geometery unable to fight at all. That he didn't have to worry about dodging AOE's because he would get knocked down and just get back up later, That there was "nothing to worry about". Well score one for the super causal/Zerg to win crowd. |

I just can't take posts about a company ripping off something in WOW seriously . As asinine as it might sound they deserve it after how blatantly they ripped off Warhammer/WH:40K. I'm not even a Warhammer fan and it still disgusts me to this day. :) For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson If you can't argue the point don't say anything at all. |
