But I have to side with the OP on the game play concerns....
It feels like GW2 got in over it's head when it came to " innovating" game play. I can see what they removed but am having a hard time finding the new stuff they replaced it with.
I am past 30 and climbing on 40 quickly and the so far the game play hasn't changed. The level of attention required to be successful is about 50% , less if you are in a Zerg pack stream rolling through DEs.
The sPvP has some troubles due to limited numbers and class balance. Perhaps there are counters to some of the obvious class balance problems that people haven't stumbled across yet but sPvP isn't that great so far.
The WvW PvP is fun, the chaos leads to opportunities for strategy, though numbers still have a huge sway on combat. The streamlined game play with homogenized roles and lack of combat depth leaves most of the fights as a simple "use it when the cool down is up" and dodge when you see the red circles.
The discover points and Jumping points are a bit overdone and in a way defeat explorations since your Map tells you where to go.
The removal of the Trinity seems to have left us with easy mode Zergish combat with the supposed difficult Dungeon encounters once in a great while.
The Auto grouping and Zergish nature of DE''s discourages communication. There is no reason to talk to anyone just run in take a couple shots, maybe rez someone and wait for the Zerg to down the boss to collect your prise.
The very small number of active skills and lack of any resource (Stamina/Mana) management make combat feel arcade like, almost like an updated old school Gauntlet.
So at the end of the Day we have a B2P MMO that has take the genre a step closer to "Easy" and by removing the traditional advancement and achievements labeled "Grind", it is left with sadly forgettable game play, nothing to build, little to achive, just repeating the same old DEs formula over and over, and hunting down the last couple flashy icons you missed in the zones.

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Yeah with all that endgame content not available until you hit the level cap oh wait. Unless by lasting you mean having players pay real money for in game items, charging them for things they should be able to unlock through gameplay. Yeah that's lasting appeal right there, for their bottom line. At least WvW provides PVP where your actions help leave a lasting mark on the landscape of battle unless another player takes it from you. Wait no, the server just resets everything you do there. Originally posted by adam_nox They have to defend it now. Because they need to substatiate Metacritic's ability to accuratly score games. Let's just judge GW2 for ourselves. You guys put such a spin on the MetaCritic's SWTOR score somehow making a way to justify it's high score and it simply does not deserve it. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

In a perfect world you would be right but sadly even in the height of the MMO age, there are still very few MMOs released. Simply not playing and being quiet won't help encourage Developers to stop making games we don't like. Too many players, too many different playstyles, too few DEVs = calling out games that you believe suck to help the DEVs not pull a muscle when patting themselves on the back while being adored/worshiped by the unwashed MMO masses. |

Exactly the opposite for me, I was losing faith in the MMO industry with the recent SWTOR fiasco (along with countless failed games before that), GW2 saved it for me.

When I read the OP I get the impression of a person running around in the starting area with his fingers sticking in his ears, shouting 'I don't want to know about this game! Please let me out! Stop trying to entertain me you stupid game! Poo!'

Originally posted by Lokberg No cash shop + gameplay unlocking everything is a much better formula. Truth is, gold sellers make money, Arenanet wanted to cash in. Not the nicest way to put it, sure, but if they didn't want to make money off selling gold, they'd give the stuff away or have it part of the game with no gem shop. I guess I'm just spoiled by other MMORPGs where I'm on even ground, nobody can pay to gain an advantage. El Psy Congroo |

Why spend real money when there's not many things worth paying for, just convert 50 silver a day for ~200 gems to expand your bank bay and buy character slots, everything else is pretty much fluff except for the trading post boosts (which are on sale atm)- the other boost consumables you can obtain through completing each map zone exploration. |

If your point is that they should give new content out for free then why are there any p2p games out there that do less but charge anyway? atleast in gw2 you have a choise to pay or not. |
