There is no torch to pass on, it's out. None of these other super hero MMO's even hold a candle to City of Heroes. At best your talking about Champions Online or DCUO and they both resember Bic lighters that can hardly sputter forth a flame.

Originally posted by lizardbones That's a little better but still sounds very limiting. Spider-Man can shoot a web, crawl on walls and has "spider" sense. There's not much to build a class around. You'd also end up pissing off comic book purists who don't like the way the story is progressing. CoH had it right. Let everyone create their own unique hero. I just wish they would have gotten rid of the classes and let players choose any two power sets from the entire pool. It would have opened up hundreds of possibilities.

Originally posted by dave6660 have you played marvel ultimate alliance? It is not limited at all. There are web bullets and different type of web attacks. If a SP game can make all these heroes into RPG "classes", i don't see what is the problem in a MMO. The story of Marvel Heroes is written by one of the famouse comic book writers, Brian Michael Bendis. I doubt there will be any storyline screw ups. |

Hey nauriusseldon, can you name for me one MMO that is coming out that you think is not going to be worth playing? Ok lets make that any MMO you can play now as well, any you don't think are worth playing? :)

Originally posted by MrReality Marvel Heroes is as opposite to CoH as it gets. Main attractor for CoH fans was character customization, power customization, community. Combat was an afterthough there only to give propulsion to the other elements. There is only one game present and future that comes close to capturing that and it's Champions. Problem with Champs is that it earned itself a terrible rep withs it's abortion of a launch and people are very unwilling to forgive and forget. Besides, for most of it's life CoH players saw CO as a rival. So I'd imagine most will just retire. Those who want to keep on the gameplay move to Champs, a marginal subset do DCU and a negligible fraction Marvel. That is taking into account how close or not those other game's come to capturing that which made CoH appealing to it's fans. |

Oh come on, you can't think games like EVE and UO are that bad. Yes they have big flaws, but so do the ezMMO's. If we are going to see a MMO that the majority of players want to play for more than two months we need a rebalancing of gameplay. I am not saying lets go back to corpse runs or introduce permadeath. I am saying lets double the xp needed to reach top level, make grouping more integral and make crafting time consuming but worthwhile. MMO's will end up as lobby games unless they change course. |

Originally posted by Tibernicus Good ones? not in my eyes. UO is horrible. I played the beta. Either click click click on a rock, or died 10 sec after enterin gthe game. EQ i played a year .. don't even try if you commit to 5 hours dungeon run, or want to ride a virtual boat for 20 min. Tales in the Desert .. just crafting .. not interested. Eve Online ... uninteresting PvE combat mechanics. Play the 21 day trial. The missions are horribly boring. Just have the ship fly auto at a certain range and fire missles and you win. STO has MUCH better space ship combat. I really don't care if they are MMOs .. they are not very good (to ME) games. |

Originally posted by Scot Yes, they are that bad .. see my other post for why. And yes, MMO's will end up as lobby games unless they change course. And they are ALREADY like that. Many play WOW, DCUO, .... as lobby games, no different than a game like Diablo. It is a good thing. Embrace it. |

Why is it that fantasy trolls are vulnerable to fire, but internet trolls thrive on flame wars? |

As of right now, Champions Online is hte only one that can cary the torch, and quite frankly, the only one that deserves to cary it, partially due to the fact that Champions Online is made by the same people who made City of Heroes. Since when is Tuesday a direction? |

I think it is sad someone thinks good gameplay must mean easier gameplay, that gameplay on rails is more fun. This is fine in solo games as long as you can change the difficulty level. But not in MMO's, where one difficulty size has to fit all. We argue that MMO's need their own style of gameplay, that there is more than one way to enjoy a game. The alternative position, that all games have to be played the same way is unimaginative and puts a straightjacket on gaming that it does not need. |
