We are at 5 to 1 against bcbully's supposition that the targeting in Guild Wars 2 doesn't work. It's either a bug in bcbully's instance of the game, bcbully is suffering from a delusion or bcbully is lying. I'm not sure where the thread is going to go from here, but I intend to watch. I have no idea what the op is on about. I never lose my target unless I set another one.

The setting you need to turn on is "auto promote target". What this does is turn on the lock on whatever you've auto targeted. Without it, you'll constantly autotarget whatever your character is facing.

Do you six people do any WvW? Tell me this why am I always picking up a friendly target when I turn my head?

bc I have no clue what you are talking about. I haven't had any targeting issues in this game. I do a shit ton of pvp btw. The only times I recall losing targets is when they stealth. I imagine that one does lose the target when you turn around but I haven't personally found it as an issue because I can't even recall if that is what happens.

Since you hit what ever you're facing, I rarely tab to target something. If I'm playing melee at the moment I'll use a charge attack, if I'm ranged the game just automatically hits what ever I'm facing. I love that you can interrupt attacks by using trees, or that you can sometimes line up multiple enemies and hit each one with some skills. I've frankly been waiting some time for a fantasy (or in some ways steampunk) style MMOG to come out that didn't have auto-targeting and actually used hitboxes for attacking. I am beyond happy that GW2 is that game. Especially considering that even shooters have moved away from such systems. |

Yeah. It does. It's in the options. And losing target is also not a bug it's a design choice. You may not like the design choice, but for many of us it's much better than those idiot games that lock you on.
And, no, your memory excuse from another post is rubbish. Go learn some karate, Tae Kwon Do or some such and start tournament fighting. See where your 'memory of where the dude that just knocked you out' was gets you... |

I kinda encounter this problem after some random patch we get everyday. At first I thought it had to do with me constantly holding right click (Since they forgot to add an option to have turning camera with mouse movement) but I keep on seeing it and it's a little annoying. To give a better explanation, you're fighting and you turn too much or something and you will lose target. (And while this is a game that doesn't need to target some classes are more efficient in targeting mobs 1 by 1 as they don't have that many aoes) This didn't happen before it started happening after some patch. |

Originally posted by bcbully You can set it up in options NOT to drop target.
Even if you turn and run and keep trying to spam skills it keeps the same target until it dies or gets out of range.
It is NOT set up that way at game stat but the options are there. |

It's not a bug... I've never had problems with targetting. Now if people don't like something, they call it a bug? I guess that was inevitable, but then again, look who the OP is.
no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

The targeting works perfectly for me, though I never really need to target, except for my clones. I sometimes forget to target something and ill teleport backwards and no clone comes up...then I 'face-desk' as I wait for its cool down and spawn some other clones.

Is there a way to fix targeting by using left click instead of right one? i have been looking into option but nothing so far. I use right click to turn camera and many times i target mobs especially in tight spots while turnning with mouse.

Originally posted by bcbully I do. I remember shooting both pistols, and long guns, in real life. Also bows, I have also thrown balls, sticks, frisbees, lots of stuff. If I were to target something, and then look away, I will need to reaquire said target. Having a memory and being psychic are different things. GW2 is "semi-action" combat. TSW also breaks target if you loose LOS. It is a sign of the times, gone are the CoX, where you could keep a target through floors, walls, entire zones. |

I have had an issue with targeting with my Necro at times, well not a real issue; more like challeges. I have played the game with the default settings since day one and have used it as a more challenging feature. There are times where I target mobs I don't want to target and promptly get my ass handed to me if I am not careful. I have noticed now though that the higher level mobs and maps have a bit more AI and tend to drop my target more often if they stealth or dodge my attacks. My minions sometimes decide to attack a mob well out of my intended area testing my resolve. Now and then this is frustrating of course but I choose to accept it as a challenge instead of a bug. This makes me question some of the "too easy" threads I have seen around here though. Maybe those players should consider changing the target options to include some more challenges if the game is such an easy-face roll game. Food for thought I suppose. Good gaming. |

Though you seem to just be around here to pick fights... I wish this site would start PERMA banning trouble makers. This is the problem with jaded TSW ultra fans. They defended their craptastic game even when it had glaringly horrible character graphic animations and over look the garbage and then come here and start fights with Guild Wars 2 fans...
TSW's character animations, movment animations should have been brought up to standard... I've not seen anyone "seriously" have a complaint about targeting within Guild Wars 2. Lets stop trying to pick fights with Guild Wars 2 fans just because your favorite game turned out to be trash. IamApropos |

Originally posted by Apropo Why you have to be so mad? It's one of the little flaws GW2 has. That along with my Elementalist automatically firing at random targets when I switch elements after combat. There is also issues with the lighting graphic not going away with scepter/focus.
