The morning of September 8th 2012 marks when the Cooking Profession offically became difficult. Several items have been removed from Karma Venders and no longer come "In Bulk". Now, cooks will have to Craft & Farm additional items, especially farm. Several creatures in the game now drop Cooking ingredients, and bags will now yeild things like Butter and Chocolate instead of purely Leather and Cloth materials. Enjoy! |

Ouch. Makes it even less likely I will bother with an alt. |

NOOOOOO! I should have stacked those bulks up! I should have spent even more Karma on them! See? Turns out I actually needed even more bank space than I thought I needed! :) |

Hmm, well, cooking was a lot easier to level up than some other professions, that's for sure. We'll see, it does seem like this gives it major disadvantage to those who didn't level it up before (luckily I stacked some stuff -_-), but I guess it's better to fix it at an early stage... |

Seems like an odd decision unless they were seeing that people buying gold was an issue of some kind. Cooking differed from the other skills in that the expense was karma and coin rather than farming. Now it's karma, coin and farming? Seems like they just shifted it from a different system to a much more tedious system.
filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community. Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

****ing *** **** power-levelers. They do this EVERY TIME.
I enjoy cooking. I enjoy finding recipies. I didn't power level with it. Just made enough food to keep my characters supplied. It's not even my highest ranked skill at just 79 (it's the lowest)... And now, I'm gonna have farm essential ingredients becaus some d-bag with a 6-year-old mind-set is power leveling. What's worse, is we're going to end up seeing all the stupid vanity/whine threads about how fast they got to end game...

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias. |

Yay, an already complex profession made even more complex! Kinda wish they made the other professions easier rather then making cooking harder. Cooking is such an amazing example of crafting compared to the others that feel like just a tedious grind where you loot every resource you can and still find yourself short needing 4 times more then what you had found at bare minimum, and much of the content being a royal pain to actually get. I loved raising cooking and Gem crafting on my main, but on my alt doing the others... I just dread it and cringe at having to do so much work to level it, really makes an otherwise great crafting system feel so bland. |

I'll play devils advocate here. The change doesn't seem bad to me seeing as now I am getting more mats overall and a larger variety it seems since I have managed to collect some stuff I hadn't gotten before. The character I am running around on now isn't my cook so after depleting my stores I noticed new ingredients to experiement with so maybe this will turn out for the better, I dunno. I know it's easier to just buy cheap karma bundles, but the drop rate at this stage doesn't seem bad at all.

Good idea IMO, it makes drops more rewarding to a chef, +1 from a budding chef here.
rpg/mmorg history: Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (9500 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(350 elementalist) Now playing GW2/Diablo 3/Rift Waiting Archeage. |

Originally posted by MosesZD Power level with it? You gain a maximum of ten levels for maxing out the profession, that isn't "power leveling" by any means, that is gaining ten levels through gameplay. They adjusted it because the profession was piss easy to max out when you only had to make a stop at three renown vendors and then park yourself in front of the trainer and workstation and go to town... Power leveling through crafting is accomplished by maxing out EVERY profession, you gain ten levels in exp (roughly) for each profession you max. 10 x 8 = 80. Easier to blame others then to accept that the trade should require roughly the same effort as the other trades though, isn't it? You should have to farm for those materials instead of just rolling up to a vendor and picking up what you need. I got my ten levels out of it on every character I have, even walked a good pal of mine through the process last night so he could get his ten levels too. Does that sting? |

Originally posted by Loktofeit It cost 35s, a small amount of Karma, and three stops at different renown vendors to get to 300+ before this change, five stops if you wanted to get to 400. A total time investment of roughly one hour. That is beyond easy, they didn't shift it to a more "tedious" system, they just don't want it to be so simple and fast that it makes the other trades pale in comparison.

Originally posted by Kost I don't really think blaming others is correct either. I think the game is in its early stages so it's cetainly not far fetched to think they are just making adjustments based on trends they are seeing. I don't view it as something they did to punish anyone for crafting, only that it was pretty easy to level cooking and now it may be on par with the others. I know My cook is almost 200 and hes only level 31. RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray. |
