Once I get into a close up fight, say 30v30 my frames drop to unplayable. Is this happenning with most players? I'm using a core 2 duo 3 ghz and a 5870 card. would a major Upgrade (new comp basically) help resolve this, or are high end rigs still having a hard time with WvW fps?

Mines is a quad core 2.8 ghz and a gtx 550ti and I can run it in high with minimum lag. Running on medium it's very smooth. I would look at your ram and card. Try to run on lower settings also. Havin a good Internet connections always helps.
Scoobin it up on the daily. |

of course it does, because it's incredibly more graphically intensive than DAoC.
however, i did hear one guy in vent yesterday saying that he could mantain 100 fps pretty much all the time. he also mentioned he was running three 690gtx cards......so yea, you want no lag? you'r gonna have to spend for a new rig. no ways arround that.
PS; i run a 3.16 Ghz, dual core with a 460gtx overclocked and i get arround 10/15 fps (on medium settins with no shadows) in large fights. the fight gets big enough and i'm slide showing it. |

lag != fps drop.

Yeah....maybe you mean this game doesn't run as well on your computer as DAoC did. I've experienced no significant latency in any aspect of gaming so far (including cities). I run at 50-60 fps at all times. I also have a pretty decent rig, though.
I would check the general tab in the options menu. There are a couple check boxes that apply changes to the graphical performance of the game (i.e. you can turn off the ground effect spells that create large areas of fire or plague or whatever). A majority of the performance decrease you experience in WvW is going to be from spell effects cluttering the screen. I would upgrade your CPU, RAM and GPU depending on what you currently use. |

I bought a new pc last may for d3+gw2 (~500 euro budget, i3 2120, hd 6870, 8gb ram). D3 runs flawlessly, GW2 in PvE zones runs at 60+ fps, but GW2 in WvW runs at 30 fps with no players around and it drops to 15 fps when it gets a little zergy. WvW is unplayable for me tbh. (yes it's at lowest settings) This feels more like a beta than a released game. |

The latency on this game's wvw is way, way better than DAoC. You're probably referring to cpu performance dropping rather than connectivity issues. You should start all your settings on minimums and work them up from there. The game seems to be optimized very well, and even the lowest settings look pretty good.

well it won't really lower the spell effects graphics.I can pull 30+ fps in any other game.In this game my fps in pve is good at 50ish fps.The second I enter WvW my frames drop about 65%.18 fps staring at a wall with graphics on minium clear across the zone is bs.It really doesn't matter much in the scheme of things since I have no incentive in leading up an attack anyways.I hope the dungeons are better, I haven't seen one yet since there is no low level one. Anyways to sum up my dillemia would be the question, is this game worth uprading for? I haven't decided that yet. |
