Simon especially seems bored already and it really just hits home to why I became so bored of GW2 in beta... it's the same thing that we've been playing all this time. Every one kept going on about how innovative and different GW2 is, the truth is it just isn't...

For me at least it felt like WAR, run through a linear map design where the PVE wasn't mixed in with PVP. You had public quests and battlegrounds and then you had the keep PVP which is called WvW in GW2. It's pretty much the same exact game and the quests are just as boring because they're still "collect 10 of these" or "kill 10 of these" and the public/dynamic quests are still "defend from so many waves" or "collect/help these" lol.

Just so funny how GW2 gets a free pass because the GW fans give it a free ride and how it has no subscription.

You hit the nail on the head.  GW2 is a decent MMORPG, but it's just that - an MMORPG.  There are very few examples of 'innovation'.  What GW2 did was package all the good ideas into one unit, scrapping some of the poor decisions made by older games.  Does this sound familiar to you?

In your case, it is time to step away from MMORPGs (and possibly even video games in general).  You have officially burnt out.  Like the title of my very successful thread, Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG.

Who said anything about GW2 getting a free pass ? Infact I'm sure you will hear 10x as many rants about GW2 in 2-3 months. To each their own you know ? Don't worry better mmo gaming ahead, eventually....

Frodo and company went out on a quest, they had to collect some things on the way, defend several locations, do escorts and help people they encountered on the way, not to mention a whole heap of killing.

It's called a self-fulfilling prophecy. Many GW2 fans hoped GW2 would so groundbreaking to the point they convinced themselves it is, even when it isn't.

I had big hopes too, but I was able to see the game for what it is, and not for what I wanted it to be.

Not everyone who likes GW2 is delusional though. In fact I'm betting the majority of players recognize that GW2 is just another spin on the same decade-old familiar formula, but they like it and are okay with it. My hats off to those players, I wish I could still do that.

Once again, those of us who *know* MMOs knew this was going to be a themepark and was designed to compete with all the other themeparks like it on the market.  They made some changes, but at the end of the day, it's the same thing.

I'm still enjoying the game because I love exploration, and well, the rest of the game is pretty fun too.  I don't expect I will play it past one character though, and I am still *really* enjoying The Secret World, so I'm pretty well set until I get my garanteed Beta Access to The Repopulation. ;)

All I can think about is Star Citizen.

In the end, innovation is going to come in steps. Any MMO that is too different will simply not sell.

I am supporting TSW because it is trying to do something different, but it still has an action bar and tab targeting.

GW2 is trying something with the trinity and down leveling, I am looking forward to trying it out. But is it re-inventing the wheel? No, it is adding some different elements instead of just being a clone,  I can appreciate that.

I't dosent matter what MMOs comes out for the next 20 years, its always "the same ol the same ol " to someone.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

What exactly are you expecting? I don't get it. This is like complaining when a shooter comes out and saying it's just like Doom. The truth is, it is innovative. They have smoothed and fixed otherwise frustrating components, they have open ended maps where you don't have a set trail. What are you expecting as quests? The things you mention are what makes MMOs what they are. You have quests, you complete, you get a reward. Guild Wars 2 has painted them differently, but still painted them. It's in how they painted that there is innovation.

You're wasting your time, they'll never get it. Let them enjoy whatever other game works for them, provided there is one.

I'm enjoying it.  I like logging in and doing a couple of hours worth of DE's and then moving on.  I'm not looking for the game to complete my MMORPG experience.  This is an MMO done in a way that is tolerable for me.  I like feeling like I'm playing with other players and not forced into a solo single-player experience just because I don't have time to raid or don't want to deal with all the stupid stuff that goes on with guilds.  I just want to log in, play some, and move on with my life.  GW2 is the perfect game for me.  For now.

And since I'm not just playing GW2 for story like I did TOR and TSW, I can see myself playing it for a long time to come.

I wish we had more AAA sandbox games, but GW2 will do for me for now.

GW2 is the same stuff we have all played for years only it is done in a totally different and very innovative way, this games natural feeling progression and immersion into the area you are in is also innovative and advanced..

When it comes to quality MMOGs i doubt if anyone will be topping GW2 for a very long time..

This game is an absolutely awesome game IMO..

Playing GW2..

I think some people ( not including yourself ) use the word innovation to mean more than it does ..

In the case of GW2 , anet took what was old and polished it up into something slightly better Ie: Innovated

But I think some people take the term to mean they did something groundbreaking or new  or revolutionary .. which they didn't

And one can only hope they next big MMO takes the newly polished stuff and makes it a bit better and then the next and the next  do the same.

GW2 has some very good parts that should be used in the next MMO, but it also has some parts that should be improved  and parts that should be totally thrown out ..

People should play it because it's a good solid MMO, and play it for that, for what it is .. but they shouldnt play it expecting some kind of eureka revoluntionary moment in MMO history

I wonder if you who agree with this say the same about every other game type out there.  Like, same crap, different FPS, or same crap, different TPS, RTS, sRPG, Racing game, card game, CCG, and so forth.  You people will never be happy, so you might as well move to a new hobby and stop expecting holodeck simulation.  All you do is focus on what you don't like instead of bringing this nebulous "new" to the table or discussions.

Take the best bits from GW2 and the best bits from TSW .. then you would have a WoW killer :)

'Innovative' has always been overstating it and so has their use of 'Dynamic'. (events)

Marketing buzzwords often ending up souring people faster when they find it's just another remix of the same song.

Even if it is kinda catchy and well put together like gw2.
