I actually like the gear grind and the leveling rate in this game.  Its gives you an advantage just not a retard one.

I feel what the op is saying. I didnt do much in the bwe because I wasnt motivated. I am playing now and the only exciting thing is getting better skills. Bleh.. I will keep playing though, I mean what are my other choices for f2p after purchase? cs? Bf? Skyrim? Atleast with this game there is class viarty and something to look forward to.... Right?

I'm now 125 hours into this game and though it's not perfect, I can honestly say it's the best MMO I have played in almost 14 years playing MMOs.

No game will be for every person. No game is for every person at every point in their life. I can't argue if the game is or isn't for a particular person.

That said, I bristle at misrepresentations and lies that pop up in threads like this. The game is absolutely massive. I'm level 73 ATM and I only have 37% map completion! There are zones where I have hit most or all of the points that count towards completion, but where I haven't actually explored eveything there is to explore. There are also many zones I haven't even set foot in, or have only passed through on the way to some other objective. Anyone saying that there isn't much here for world size or content is misinformed or just deliberately misrepresenting the game.

The game zones are grouped by region and the regions do tend to have a common theme. Snowy theme, autumnal theme, verdant theme, jungle theme, wasteland theme, etc... So, no, this isn't WoW, where adjacent zones can have absolutely no commonality with the zones they border. If you want the theme park, 26 flavors of world design, you won't find that here. However, even when the themes are shared between zones in a region, each zone has it's own terrain and ecological differences that make them recognizably different. They did an excellent job of striking the right balance here and none of the terrain in this game feels random, cut and paste or generic. It's a beautiful world, it feels very organic, there is variety and there is a ton of world space.

You might still not like it, but don't represent to other who haven't played that this is a small world, lacking content and short on variety, because those things are the exact opposite of true.

One good thing, with no subscription fee, if you aren't so hot on it now, you can always come back when ever you want and give it another try. The deeper into this game you get, the better it gets. Even 125 hours in, I still can't wait to see what the next area of the world I visit will look like, what challenges it will hold and I'm always looking forward to seeing what's around the next bend or over the next hill, (or under it).

Most MMOs I've played the last two years have been flash in the pan experiences of around 40-50 hours, if I'm lucky. I haven't had a "full time" MMO in those two years. Maybe I'm benefiting from the lack of MMO burnout which some others may have been experiencing before entering GW2? However, I also know that there are people who felt burnt out on the genre who are enjoying GW2 as a breath of fresh air. In any event, I'm glad to have an MMO I want to play for the long term and is actually big enough to make that viable.

This is one of the best MMOs the genre has ever seen. Truly it is, but that doesn't guarantee that everyone will like it, or that they will like it "right now". I hope peope on the bubble will stick it out, because there is so much to do in this game it's hard to imagine that most people can't find things here worth sticking around for.

I think I'm starting to burn out with the game. I'm 28th level now, and it's just really bland to me. I mean, it has a nice flow in terms of combat and movement - and it looks and sounds pretty good. I like that they're trying to reward exploration and crafting - but nothing seems to really matter in this game.

After level 30, you pretty much only have traits to look forward to. Gear is boring and doesn't give you that feeling of power progression.

WvW is removed in an instance and doesn't really mean anything (beyond a few percentages of bonus stuff) - and it resets every 2 weeks. sPvP is ok - but is exactly like all the other modern themeparks - except there's no meaningful reward.

I find the zones too similar and none of the 6-7 I've seen so far stand out like the beautful zones did in WoW back then. They don't have a strong atmosphere and the music is average with limited variety.

I don't know... The entire game just seems so mainstream/accessible that there's really no way to excel or stand out.

Even without a sub fee - I don't see this game lasting very long.

Oh well....

Said it before and I'll say it again the "gear grind" needs to be in a game for it to have any major retention rate.  If everything you get absolutely cosmetic then your game is now officially a Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat; go check what is the retention rate of 1 of those this year.

Having better gear possibilities accomplishes 2 things, 1 it easily represents your character progression as you can readily tell that yur character is stronger than before, and 2, it gives the player something to look forward to so they log on more often.

People moan about the lack of skill in said games because they can't kill people with better gear in pvp. The  matter of fact is, howeve, is that these people are just lazy. In the competitive scene gear doesn't matter because people with the same rating have the same gear, but the difference is that they had to work to get to this level. They had to play the game and in return learned tthis classes inside out. If the whiners had taken the time to progress like everyone else, they would have only fought against people their same gear level and if their money is where their mouth is, they would have eventually gotten to the top.

Unfroutunately though, these people just can't accept that there are better players out there and in retur just blame it on the gear

You realize they extended their core concepts from GW1 to GW2 and GW1 successfully retained lots of people, right?

I'll concede there are some things I don't like and some things that outright piss me off. And I'll concede that just because I like a game doesn't mean you should like a game.

I played WoW. WoW was a fun game. And it was challenging. Right up until the point when you had the highest tier gear which automatically meant you had 'beaten' all the mechanics.

*I* find it more satisfying to actually IMPROVE as a player. I know that if I can't kill something or someone, *I* screwed up. *I* need to improve. I can't just make the assumption that "meh, I'm totally awesome. The only reason I couldn't down that guy is because my gear sucks. Give me a totally tits set of gear and I'm unbeatable".

Let me give you an advice OP, games are as fun as you make them to be, every game is going to have some things you dislike what is important is to commit with the things you like and enjoy them, but judging by your post you only like to focus on the things you don't like and I bet you are not going to enjoy any other MMO out there because you simply don't commit to it and maybe is the leveling system you don't like about this game, then is the pvp system on the next one.

Example: I hated D3 so much, in my mind it was a stupid treadmill of the same content over and over again, but I had so much fun playing with my friends that at the end those negative thoughts didn't matter to me, I still enjoyed the game and I still think it was worth the 60$.

I am not trying to defend GW2 in anyway, if you didn't like it that is fine, but I bet you are going to try planetside 2 and you are not going to like it either because frankly I think you are a quitter.

The game, like all games, is not for everybody, so be it. Time to move on then, get away from the game, from the forums, and do something else.

All 60 people are having a blast? Not a single one of them is getting bored?

Time to get back to the game then - and get away from the forums :)

Well ... if you believe actually he is guild with 60 people and all having a blast. :-)

I plan to play it sooner or later (most probable) ... but for now from what I have seen or read I'm not really encouraged.

I think you're wrong. The gear grind is only a timesink. Skill has nothing to do with it.

Only when you take that away will you have an even playing field, where the better players are simply better, instead of only the people with the most time being on top.

Feel like trying Planetside 2? Get a headstart with the starter kit!

I doubt. SWTOR have a looot of group content. But I love this game for - among miriad of other things - a lot for fact that this group content is NOT forced. You can level and play as you wish, grouped or solo. If you want to progress, only class quests are mondatory. At start I even liked grouped but as altholic and with strange time schedule (even if playing really a lot) I could enjoy SWTOR at any time not only when all OTHER people have time.
