In my opinion they did a better job with the way they handle the story then SWOTOR and Im a huge fans of Bioware(or was before they decided to expend into 3 studio).

I also like the way they handle other player joning you in your story without breaking it to.

For exemple, my friend had to complete a challenge in an arena and it was suppossed te be something that he does solo but I joined him and the game changed my skill for skills that Cheer him , boo enemy , sending refreshmen to my friend etc. so i could not fight with him but I could help in some way by cheering. That was funny.

That reminds me, off topic a little but did any of you recognize the male elementalist voice talent? It's the same actor as the male Jedi Consular voiceover in SWTOR. I sat there knowing I recognized the voice from somewhere for about ten minutes and then finally remembered from where. I haven't personally confirmed it in the credits or anything, but I am 99% sure it's the same person.

yup its Nolan North:) GW2 uses fine VO actors on most aspects yet people seem to praise swtor for VO and bash GW2 yet some are even the same VO actor..  lot of big names here

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. I feel dumb. I didn't know it was Desmond Miles, Nathan Drake, and about a hundred other big voiceover jobs. lol I guess at least I recognized him eventually.

A good VA will make sure you won't instantly recognize the voice.

Although eventually there isn't that many 'stereo types' in video games so you will know them all.

Like how many 20-30 white males do we have? :P

I enjoy the story a lot, and unlike Kotor, they haven't stretched it by having you running around for 20 hours to enjoy a story of 2h

I'm not enjoying the story in GW2 as much i enjoyed the story in the first one.  That doesn't mean it's bad, but the Prophecies campaign from the first game was just amazing.

Yep, too simplistic is what I felt at begining of Asura story and thus quickly decided it's not worth my time so I'm mostly skipping it.

Your loss. The asura story is actually well written for a game tale and frequently very funny.

'Too simplistic'? Wtf are you guys expecting from the game in terms of story? Something by Leo Tolstoy? You spend hours playing MMORPGs and all of a sudden your time is too valuable to 'waste'?

Heaven help us.

Hmmm not sure TBH .. but I know one thing .. I wish they would stop calling me a " Hero " when I haven't done anything ... Atm it just seems the NPC's are there to heap praise on you and piss up your back

The story is pretty bad, at least the human born in the streets one is. It's actually worse than SWTOR's, which I thought was mediocre to begin with. Whoever compared it to Mass Effect is clearly smoking something.

Story in GW2 is like some Japanese comic book story - where you can completely ignore it and just look pictures. Childish and bit weird - and you know that whatever you do in story - nothing actually changes in world (only what you gain is access to some areas and maybe lose access to other areas).

So not really - I don't enjoy from it. it is not story like in Max Payne 2, Deus Ex 1 or Mass Effect 1/2. Just average MMO story to move player from one place to another.

It's ok, but nothing mind blowing for sure.  But to that end, I also found TSW and SWTOR stories to be a little too "talky".  I play MMOs to beat things up and get loot, not hear people blabber.

The first half of the story is about as good as the avatar the last airbender movie, seriously even the dialouge an the lines are on par with avatar the last airbender.

Played both Human and Norn, and judging from the previous posts, seems like Asura has the best story.

I am sorry, if you think Nolan North's performance in GW2 is even remotely good, i am just speechless.

He is terrible, flat and impassionate, i know he has lot of fans and a big name, but he delivered some of the worst lines in GW2.

I actually found the stories in SWTOR to be extremely average in all respects... but then I expected them to be. Just because a game has a LOT of story, with VO, it means little with regards to quality. I have no idea why SWTOR has become this paragon of story telling... it was very average IMO. I guess Bioware repeated it enough and enough people soaked it up for it become a 'reality'.

What it all comes down to I guess is expectations.

I didn't expect GW2 to have a brain storming convoluted epic tale... I expected it to be standard MMO fare, and I have never played any MMO where the story has blown me away. I had no reason to beleive this game would be different in that regards.

Luckily though I have never played MMOs for the story. There are other better ways to deliver that and this medium isn't suited to it.

GW2 actually exceeded my expectations though in a way... simply because the asura arc is pretty funny, quite snappily written, and delivers some nice moments.

The problem, I see, with MMO/CRPG stories is you have to do the work of involving yourself and buying off on the decisions the developer makes regarding moving the story forward.   And it's tough.   You're so often role-playing in a poor-movie or with a fantaical, overly-controlling DM in personal stories and those decisions may not be the ones you'd make.

I'm not a huge fan of them in CRPGs and MMOs.    I like to make my own story.  But, I will say that as 'personal stories' in computer games go, I find these much better than SWTORs which were both brutally linear, long and padded, and so poorly-written as to be laughable.   (I read better stuff in English 280 -- Introduction ot Creative Writing while in college.)

And I like that you have choices.    And even through the rather conventional set-ups (human orphan story I'm talking about you) they still do a good job of getting you hooked at the end of that story.

Baldur's Gate.    They made this HUGE reputation on Baldur's Gate and they've been hit-and-miss on story while ramping up the Voice Acting Gimmick ever since.  But they never get called out on it.

Never cared much for MMORPG stories and the fact that I'm even paying attention to the story is an achievement on it's own. As for whether I'm enjoying the story... meh. It has it's good an bad points is all I can say. Like I'm playing the Sylvari and some PQs are interesting and engaging but most others are pretty meh. I find it particularly funny how all the Sylvari speak in proper Queen's English.

I sat there knowing I recognized the voice from somewhere for about ten minutes and then finally remembered from where. I haven't personally confirmed it, but I am 99% sure it's the same person.

yup its Nolan North:) GW2 uses fine VO actors on most aspects yet people seem to praise swtor for VO and bash GW2 yet some are even the same VO actor..  lot of big names here

I am sorry, if you think Nolan North's performance in GW2 is even remotely good, i am just speechless.

He is terrible, flat and impassionate, i know he has lot of fans and a big name, but he delivered some of the worst lines in GW2.

You obviously didn't play the Male Consular in SWTOR.     I can't play a male human in GW2 because when I hear his voice, I cringe.   Male Charr, Male Asura...  Got them.      Humans -- Female only.

Also, I'm not a Nolan North fan anyway.   I don't know why people like him so much.   But, it's a matter of taste so they're happy to like him as much as they want.
