To obtain 1 mere set of all available dungeon sets, you need to run explorable mode 60+ times atleast. Assuming you want to obtain several sets to have unique looks for all your characters, you have to do a few hundred runs, all lasting 2+ hours on average.

Last time I remember, ArenaNet said you would get a reward each run to prevent this kind of grind.

Words cannot describe how dissappointed I am, waited 4 years for it and again it's just another grind if I want to build unique characters.

Anyone else feels the same?

Nope, I'm only level 18, been playing every day since launch, though mostly sPVP.

Maybe I will when I get to level 80, but I'm guessing I'll just take it slow and easy and enjoy the journey.  This is the first game that has let me do that in an online enviroment in a long time.

people complain this game has no grind.. now people complain it has a grind:P  thing is the grind was always known they had a huge grind in GW1 for this sort of stuff.. you need something for people to strive for and keep playing.. the big difference between the grind here is the equipment isn't necesary to be competative in world vs world or be able to complete PVE content. It's something you need to work for and earn but is not necessary to enjoy the rest of the games content.. :)

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

AFAIK you do get one guaranteed piece, but on your first story run. Plus you don't have RNG involved, you always get tokens rather than relying solely on some chance of getting that piece of gear that rewards some on their first attempt and others rage quit after hundreds of unlucky attempts. Lastly, I heard the game still has that chance to drop equipment from kills, so tokens serve merely as some supplemental guaranteed drop mechanic.

Is the bank big enough to hold all those equipment sets?

The point of unique skins is to gather the ones you like, sadly for me I like them almost all. If I want to be forced to stick with 1 set, I play a korean grindfest instead.

Anyone who works fulltime, has his own household to take care of or anything else time consuming must realise that 120+ hours per set is quite outragous considering this is supposed to be the "non-grind mmo."

I am so sick of the grind QQ. Everyone has to whine and cry about it. Get over it. Every freakin MMO is going to have one. One persons definition of a grind differs from the next. Stop playing MMO's if you don't like it. That is just how the genre is. Some games more than others. Go find something else productive to do in the game or in real life for that matter. Obviously a lot of you never played EQ1 or Lineage or other games. You have to work towards things in an MMO. People shouldn't just get max level and be handed everything I am sorry but that is just stupid. You want something put the time in. If not then don't. MMO's are a time sink investment period. Suck it up and play the game or quit MMO's altogether end of story.

If you watch a game, it’s fun. If you play it, it’s recreation. If you work at it, it’s FF-XIV.

I don't understand you want to look super amazing with many different tyles and variety, but you dont want to work for any of it? Running dungeons 60+ times might get repetative but I ran dungeons on Swtor like 200 times on the same one just to farm rep for my companions.

This is the price you pay for fashion and looking amazing in video games, and it always has been. anyone remember the Doppleganger card drop rate 00.01% it meant you could kill him over 1,000 times and never get his card which was the best card in the gme for agi fighters.

Also the dungeon gear stats only go up so high so the only real reason you would want thema ll is for braging rights, since you can only wear one at a time. You'll apreciate it more if you have to work for it. You already made to lvl lvl 80 so I know you have the time.

I'll be honest, I knew it was there, but the grind for cosmetic gear is massive. Honestly? i'd rather the items were actually better stat wise.. then at least the grind would seem worth it. My heritage armour looks just as good as the dungeon armour sets.

Grind = part of the content.

If there was no grind then what would you do once you had that full set of gear?

I mean everyone would have all the sets of gear very quickly and easily, so then the instant you sauntered up in your nice unique set your buddy pops theirs on just to show off they have it too, its too easy to get then everyone has it, you don't have to pick and choose which  you want to focus on or any of that.

Its also for some of us part of the fun.

I mean whats the rush to have a full set of armor?  There is no subscription so they're not milking you out of some hard earned cash...

My solution to all MMO's with loot grinds...

Run the content, fnid new game.

New content comes out. Return. Run content. Find new game.

After a while you just need to understand how all this works and deal with it in your own way.

Some love to grind the same quests over and over, it's not that I don't like to, I just can't do it, I'd fall asleep literaly. But to those that do, god bless'm. To me I have an industry to support and more games to play.

Now what they said... they seemed to have said plenty that didn't happen. Oh wells.

What is "real"? How do you define "real"?

No one in their right mind has said it will be a "non-grind mmo".  What was said is that you don't HAVE to grind in order to be competitive.  But, just like in GW1 there will be a grind for cosmetic type items, or titles.  So, is it Anet's fault you went into the game with unfounded expectations, or your fault?  I vote yours.

Full disclosure:  I'm nowhere near lvl 80 so I don't know how much of a grind it is.  I was on vacation last week so only have a level 14 char. at this point.  However, I'm very familiar with the "endgame grind" of GW1 for titles and armor.  So I don't expect GW2 to be much different in that aspect.  The difference between GW1 and GW2 and other grindy games is that the other games basically require you to grind so you can be powerful enough to play at endgame.  GW1 and 2 don't require that.

You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

Be afraid.....The dragons are HERE!

Anet have the right idea with the type of grind they introduce - they make it optional, and this distinguishes it from the type of compulsory grind you find in many other games.

You have a choice, you can choose the goals you want to work towards. None of these choices prevent you from playing other parts of the game's content - surely this is not a bad thing?

I still fondly remember working towards GWAMM in GW1 - it was a hell of a grind, but I found it quite therapeutic at times - you just need to get into the 'zen' of it. Stick some good tunes on, go an vanquish another area, notch up sunspear points on the way...

Like I stated before, there are people with fulltime jobs, if I can play only 2-3 hours a day, it means I either have to run a dungeon every day without doing anything else, or skip them entirely as I cannot obtain them at this rate.

This is a very flawed game design, having a few unique sets for hardcore players isn't bad, but having them only for them is very bad.

Everyone knows I'm a huge fan of this game, but I have to agree the grind for Dungeon gear is way too excessive. I'd cut it completely in half, then fine tune from there. The same goes for cultural karma weapons as well. By the time I'm level 80 I might have enough karma for the Tier 2 weapons, which will be pointless. Trying to get full sets of dungeon gear while you level also seems pointless, as during the grind to get them, you outlevel them.

I'd be fine if there were two sets of gear for each level 80 dungeon, both with the same or very similar stats. One would be easy to obtain and have a more mundane skin and the other would be difficult to obtain and have really snazzy skins. That way Dungeons could still be a mode for getting your complete set of level 80 in a reasonable fashion, but there would still be something worth grinding for for those who like to grind dungeons.

Obtaining one of each dungeon set should be a grind, if you want things handed to you for little to no effort this isn't the game for you.

Guild Wars has always been this way and always will be.
