This is common for people who enjoy today's WoW. Not saying this is a bad thing. Some people just gravitate back to what they're used to and that's natural.
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game. |

Originally posted by Hexcaliber Maybe the way players participate in them (compulsively/"addicted") is the "formula" that needs re-thinking. Whenever a game begins to feel tedious, I just put it away for a while. Don't see how that even merits discussion. If the op's surprised about his own threshold for "tedious", people's tolerance for the repetitiveness of MMOs is absolutely individual and variable...even within the same individual over time. That also doesn't merit much discussion.

I ignore completely troll threads cause ignoring is the best way to fight them but feel bad for all the GW2 players that feel the need to respond to crap like this thread.
Ignore the troll and they will be talking to each other instead.

Originally posted by RogueTroopa Breaks combat? You can run circles around mobs without ever breaking combat. Unless you use mouse to move forward during combat of course. Then you probably die all the time. I think that the OP is annoyed by the combat difficulty and that prevents him from enjoying the rest of the game. Of course events will become tedious if you still can't fight well after some time. My advice, learn to move using wasd keys otherwise you will never enjoy combat at higher lvl in GW2. Or a maybe controller? (never tried myself, Im used to wasd and mouse) Moving with just mouse will make you an easy target even for PVE mobs. And maybe try some different packs and weapons for your engineer if you are tired about that overcharged shot skill. It is actually a usefull skill to get rid of snares or move away from strong mobs. |

Simply put, before GW2 Was released, 80% of the people on mmorpg.com could easily imagine paying a monthly fee for GW2 when it was released. After visiting tons of hyped topics, reviews and "GW2 is the real thing". People got brainwashed, simple as that. But things have changed now, people are back on earth again. And how do I know that? Because those 80% of the people on mmorpg.com TODAY (few days after the release) could still play GW2 BUT NOT imagine paying a monthly fee for GW2. I agree that 80% might be an overkill but dont tell me that 50% isn't already down on earth already? Mmorpg.com is one of the most Hyped GW2 forums with alot of players. If Its negative here, then it won't do any better in the rest of the forums online. It says itself, GW2 is losing people already. Long story short, the remaining players in GW2 are being nervous, visiting these topics and creating new topics to get rid of their bad feeling "Damn, I bought GW2 but Its fun, ITS FUN... right?" Sooner or later though, they will be able to let go of those dollars and get down to earth which makes us a total of 50% determined dislikes on GW2. 2012-09-02 mark my words, in about 10 days GW2 will be in WAR at this forums. Its very easy to see already. PS :I love being a realist, but sometimes I like fantasy too :)

Just to add to this, I haven't played another MMO that makes better use of my Merc Stealth keyboard than this. Having the arrows keys on the left side all by themselves fits this game like a glove. Want to talk boring and tedious...stannding in one spot, hitting the same 2 button combinations, and not having to move an inch over the course of a fight. that is the definition of boring and tedious. At least here you actually have to move around and can use all your skills as you move. What an amazing concept! To think in 2012 we have a major MMO where you can move AND use all your skills. Soon you're going to tell me there's going to be a game that discovered a way to get rid of having to wait in a que to play.... |

Originally posted by Adiaris TSW for example. I love TSW story, quests, dialogue and many mor things. In fact after playing for couple of weeks I bought my first and probably last lifetime. GW2 is a fun game and I like it but I have to skip all dialogue in it because it's atrocious imo. Feels like written by 12 years old for 12 years old. Had to delete my first toon, human necro, because he was so good I got sick. At least Norn have nice viking setting whicks is bearable. Still, gameplay feels good and it's fun except that crazy camera they have. |

Originally posted by Eir_S What is the direction? I am quite puzzled about any kind of direction the genre is heading, so I would like to hear someone else's opinion. Seeing that you mentioned that, I consider it to be a good opportunity to ask since it seems that you have some kind of idea.
Playing: Nothing atm My game concept thread: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/369707 (any feedback appreciated) |

i have 85 hours in the game, im level 55 and only have llike 45% of the map uncovered, i havnt even touched the pvp part of the game, or one of the 24 instances. i just dont understand some people saying this is boring, whats boring about exploring a giant world that is new to all of us.

So what's the game that you claim has more variety, more epic overall, and better combat system by level 10. I'm really curious, please name that awesome game so we all can try it out :) |

I don't think it will fall that quickly, but you can see what your saying in the numerous, 'defence', responses from people who post threads and bought the hype. generated on these boards, and now are disapointed that GW2 isn't the game changer people here championed. The truth for me is that I never really saw GW2 as being hugely different from many of it's competitors. Sure they have implemented some common sense things, the classes play uniquely, (although unbalanced still), amongst some other things. But really how you get the content isn't hugely different then before. Your still going to areas killing things, escorting people, picking things up, you have to be okay with that, otherwise you'll get fed up quickly. Also unless your following a zerg herd things slow down quickly, especially if no events are spawning. Kessex Hills was a nightmare for me, getting from lv17-20. I ended up having to replay centaur invasions about ten times for the xp required for the later stuff in the zone. Later I realised I should of gone to Braindon Hills(?), but I couldn't help but feel there was a content gap there. I'm fine with all that though, I am enjoying myself for now and I doubt when I stop playing I'll feel, 'let down'. It's all about managing expectations I guess :) This looks like a job for....The Riviera Kid! |

Originally posted by Piiritus Lol. Not laughing because you like TSW but because you bought a lifetime sub. That was brave given funcom's current status. I absolutely love the Gw2 stories, cutscenes and dialogue. They're short, optional, and involve choices. TSW I found the writing was decent (if trying too hard, sort of like a paperback novelists first attempt), the setting badly executed, and the cutscenes absolutely atrocious and far too drawn out. so i guess to each their own ;) |

Some of the OP I do agree with. DE are somewhat repetitive. Escort quests also get old pretty quick. I am still though having fun but I do wonder if it will last because certain aspects I already am over.

Originally posted by coretex666 Well I can't predict the future - I probably should have said he won't like the very infrequent and small changes made to the genre, because if you don't care for GW2 or most of the MMOs before it, I fail to see how anything on the horizon is going to change that, but since I brought it up, I think that if anything the devs will start adopting more variety like downscaling, and even going so far as to make it optional or have some servers downscaled and others not so that there is no more "Vanilla was better because it was harder" complaints. At least, that's what I'd like to happen. It's inevitable that companies will do what ANet did and try to mix it up a little. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |
