b2p without a cash shop would be great for players(my preferred), But it would suck for business. Box+Sub would be a great middle ground and the best for both parties I believe. if they moved to a f2p model it would be a disaster. How can you get people to buy from your cash shop that arnt willing to pay the small charge of a $15 sub? Its not a single player game im sorry, It is infact an mmorpg - an on going service. |

I didn't address the cash shop because it would exist whether there was a subscription or not. The only way to avoid the existence of a cash shop where players could buy additional things would be not playing the game. Also, I ran out of space. In regards to a cash shop working without destroying the spirit of the game...I'm not sure. What I am sure of is if they don't do something, having a subscription isn't going to help the game. I did some silly calculations to try and see what changing the price of the game would get Funcom. Using 200,000 as being 29.3% of the total number of people who might buy the game, we get 682,594 people. That is their entire market. 22% will not buy the game at all, so 150,171 will not purchase the game, ever. That leaves 332,423 people who would purchase the game at some price point below what the game is being offered now. Join the League For Gamers. |

One of the best themepark MMORPGs out there so I would have no issue paying for the game again and paying a sub..

I'd join it if it would be something like: 1 week free, and then a sub. Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 265 episodes) Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes) |

I played for about a week and while I think the story lines are great, the killing factor for me are the limited actions any one toon can take a time. Sure onve you've been playing for a year and have most of the skills you can switch them out. You still only get a few though and you have to switch. And so noobs (such as myself) with few skills, the redundancy gets old - fast. I remember I was using a shotgun and was shooting it, over and aver and over, again and again and again. I beleive they should open all skills from all classes to be trainable and let these skills be used in anyway the player wants. This would do two things. First, it would make playing funner as you would have more actions to do (one reason why I hated Tera was because you had like 7 actions) and Second, there would be a much larger degree of specs. imo

Originally posted by Melieza Heh, you're right. But it was announced on August 16th. So probably I've searched for trial before that and decided that there is non. Well, good for me, bad for Funcome. Probably thir marketing need to push. I'm sure there are a lot of people like me - who's (was in my case) interested to try but don't want to spend 50$ in case of a mistake. |

I can't justify paying sub for this game - I will not play multiplayer, there is no PVE engame. Neither I'm interested in the cash shop items - gear and char customization I can find ingame are enough for me. But what drives me playing are the stories (investigation quests mostly). So maybe it would be a good thing for a game to be b2p and then cash shop selling additional quests. If the price is reasonable, it can be good for both gamers and Funcom. Let's say they have 200k subs. Let's say new investigation quest costs 0.5$. So it brings 100k$ to Funcom, which is definitely greater than development value of this quest. At the same time it's good enough price for let's say hour of "investigating" for me. Add packs, quest chains etc. I'm happy, Funcom happy :). |

well, since I'm playing it now, I think it is worth it's current price...

It's worth playing. At the current price. When it stops being worth playing, I'll stop paying. Seems like a great system to me.
Cost doesn't really matter to me. Recently I had the opportunity to play GW2 for free and couldn't force myself to log in for more than 30 minutes at a time.
So to any DEVs reading this - just make a good game, I'll pay for it. If you make generic crap and give it to me free, I'm still not going to play it. 55.5% of that poll are people choosing a "No Sub" option of some form.
Guess we know the answer hm?
On that note, EQ1 is still worth a normal sub LOL! The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity: |

Originally posted by Fadedbomb Yep, this site is full of freeloaders :) But that's not anything new. Pretty much every MMO that's come out in the past 5 years has had the "i would play it if it didn't have sub or was free" reaction.
I guess I just have a different mentality. I rarely like a game enough to want to play it but not enough to pay. I either like a game and am willing to pay for it or i don't like it and woulnd't play it regardless of cost. That's just me though.

Originally posted by Fadedbomb I agree EQ1 is still worth a sub...do you know how much content is in that game at this point.
I think those people would choose no sub for any game, obviously. |

With a game that will be doing monthly content updates i think a sub is fine. If i were getting a game that only updates with expansions then i would be pissy about the content saying it doesnt deserve a sub. However a raid release has been announced for October. 2 Nightmare runs have been announced for the delayed Augest update. We get what we pay for.
Because i can. |

Any one else got a email survey from Funcom about TSW asking what would make you purchase it? I just did the survey and the questions they asked I found was pretty sad. |
