ArenaNet have extra capacity, they are just reserving it to cope with boxed sales as they know exactly how many boxes are available on the market. Their infrastructure as it stands can cope with that much, they could add more, but reportedly they don't want to risk overloading their infrastructure and negatively impacting the game for those who DO have the game. It's a smart move and will have a benefit of helping to drive box sales, not that they are really needing it at this point. What we really want are the numbers. Have ArenaNet reached 2 million copies sold yet? More? |

This was announced already 2 days ago. I noticed it when i was turned away in every store with the same message: NCSOFT stops sellings for a period of time because server issues (overpopulation). Luckily I was still able to buy it just after the message :D |

Also... I think they want to avoid their servers getting totally nailed over the Labor Day weekend in the USA. I wouldn't be surprised if they experience problems anyway. Sure, launch was last weekend with 400k concurrent users. I am thinking that this weekend will be the real test. |

They would also like to take some time off over the weekend.. rather than work non stop to deal with overcrowded servers. |

ANet have a higher profit margin from digital sales sold on the official site, why the hell would they help retailers take a cut of thier own game if they don't have to? There are retailers that are sold out as well .. I guess if you really want the game for this weekend, I would get it today if you can find a copy. New stock shipments listed as TBD.
But really, all but a few servers are listed as full (can't create a character on them) .. so if all the servers are full, I suppose ArenaNet oversold and some people would be really unhappy. Really, unhappy. Want a nice understanding of life? Try Spirit Science: "The Human History" |

Glad I bought my digital copy yesterday then. I was going to get the physical copy but I have the flu. Digital was just too convenient.

Remember that Anet HAS to add three servers at a time to be able to have Mists for every server...that means they have to make sure they have enough new folks for 3 servers before they can add.
