I played Tera but Guild Wars 2 is just so much better for me. Tera - great combat system, nice graphics, the rest is pretty much bad Guild Wars 2 - huge world that feels alive and there's constantly happening something, exploration element, dynamic events, endgame starts at begining, no linear questing, no subscribzion fee, huge replay value, i have yet to try the dungeons I don't think I'll ever gona play another MMO with a subscription fee anymore. Most of the people in my guild that has picked up GW2 are playing it as a casual game. It replaced LoL as their casual game.

Tera combat is a good try, but a failed one. Classes restricted to one weapon, skills that root you into place... bleh. GW2's combat is way better in every aspect. And when we start talking about game content... Tera is a crap old 50+ years old car, and GW2 is the Bugatti Veyron. Quests in Tera's quests are so bad that they make WoW quests look like they were written by JRR Tolkien himself. Graphic wise... yeah, the engine of Tera is nice. But that's it. ArenaNET's art team crushes Tera's any time of the day. Tera's world is bland and boring, while GW2's is handcrafted, full of details, and alive. |

I haven't tried Tera much. I got some friends playing it and they are having a good time. So here's what I can tell you about GW2. Since the day I booted up the game, I have to admit, I am very happy. The graphics are great, the effects are pretty awesome, sound and music are good (could be better) - The gameplay is exceptionaly good. What I really like is how everything ties in together. Nothing is "completely new and original" but everything is so well chained that all you really have to do is walk out of a city and the adventure starts. Is the game perfect? - Na, it has a few things that ArenaNet could improve but is the game good and delivers as promised? - Yes it does. There's so much details in the game that it's actually worth exploring. Is it less grindy and easier then most games out there. - Yeah, it's pretty smooth sailing but it does get much harder as time progresses and in many situation, you don't want to be there alone. Is Guild Wars 2 the number one game right now? - I believe so but that's also a matter of taste and opinion. GW2 has a lot of hand painted details and that's nice!

If there's one thing that GW2 does well and above pretty much anything else is giving the sense that the world is actually alive. Sure, most NPC will do the same 3 or 4 things but in many situation, it's enough to give a sense that they're living there. Visiting a major city filled with npcs walking around, some interacting with others and all the random things that can happen quickly adds up. The capital city does feel like a capital city. A farming village does feel like a farming village. There's more than 2 or 3 npc shoving invisible dirt in a loop. Some will start watering the crops and then move around to have a chat while kids will be playing and throwing snow balls around (in your face if you happen to be there)... You'll see a pack of Moa (big birds) taking a long walk together and if you follow them long enough, you'll realize that it's way beyond the 2 meters to the right and then loop back. All these little details :)

Originally posted by The_Korrigan No, not really. Tera's combat actually has consequences to every action. GW2's combat doesn't. I'd say GW2 is definitely the better game overall, but Tera's combat is superior. |

Originally posted by blognorg Well, that's the problem right there, isn't it. Until someone bites the bullet and STARTS talking, hardly anyone else will talk either. Sociable communities don't just spring up by themselves, fully formed. Someone needs to start the ball rolling. WHy not you? |

Unless you have a reason to group, you are unlikely to communicate. With everyone a healer and groups forming and disbanding for simply moving in to and out of an area GW2 was not built for chatting.

I've played and quit both. Tera had better combat, but their levelling system sucked. GW2 has better PvE, but I hate PvE. The PvP is a zergfest and, like Tera, the character customization in looks and playstyle is limited. I can pick the typical thief look in GW2 or I can look like a muscled out body builder or raging trannie in Tera. No thanks on both accounts. I now play neither. MMOs are stale. |

But seriously, how is the community in this game? Do people in groups generally talk and be social to one another or is everyone quiet and unsocial like so many are in most all MMO's these days? I am so tired of the alone feeling I have been seeing in todays MMO's. I hope this is not the case with GW2...

Originally posted by Wrender There's a lot of chatter in /map, but DE's aren't as chatty - usually they're over too fast to talk and you really can't play a dynamic combat game like this while you're talking. I do most of my chatting on vent with my guild. It's a very guild friendly game. If you want people to just break out into conversation in the middle of nowhere, you might not find it unless you go to some super-casual RP server. Then again, I rarely ever saw anyone just chat it up in WoW either, so I never understood the complaint. The community is generally great though, except on Sorrow's Furnace. They seem to be kind of stupid. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |
