I spent 5 years with City of Heroes and seven with World of Warcraft. I enjoyed both games. For many reasons I have been looking for a new MMO. Guild Wars 2 has made it very easy for me to say I'm locked in and here to stay for a while.

The only reason I'm posting... Well I took some time out of  game to read several different threads in regard to Guild Wars 2. And a common theme is trending IMO. Guild Wars 2 is not falling victim to the massive propaganda machine put in place by... once again IMO... paid trolls.

Fanboy seems to be the "sucker name" used by troll's to make people who honestly like GW2 look silly... if that is indeed the case... Well...

I think you may be misunderstanding the term. 

It's ok to enjoy and speak highly of the game you enjoy. But when you carry it over the top, and start saying things that are exaggerated, or if you become personally ofended almost to the point of rage, just by seeing a critical post of the game without actually seeing if the poser had valid reasons for his post, then yeah, maybe it's time to settle down a bit. 

But if you are just here to say...Yeah, I really.......really, like this game. That's fine. I'll join you in that. I do not consider myself a fan boy.

There are a few aspects that I am a bit critical of...and guess what? That's OK. because after it's all said and done, I still really really like this game. and in time, I know that the issues will get resolved and GW2 isn't going anywhere in the mean time.

Talk about putting words in someones mouth. A one day old account where the only activity is a zero rating on GW2 and a ten on another game isn't suspicious to you? I'm certainly not saying this is new with GW2 either, you can find plenty of the same on the ratings for Tera, TSW and SWTOR.

I know it's hard to believe and maybe a shock to some of you but not everyone likes GW2 . 

I started playing it myself today for the 1st time and if I'm honest I'm not sure about the game . I will give a week or 2 to grow on me but atm something about it just doesn't seem right to me.

But why should you care right ?

Just ask yourself one question : Do I enjoy the game ..

If the answer is yes then there you go, you're happy and have no worries. No need to act like you're running to mom because someone called you names in the playground.

If your paycheck is from posting positive or negative about a video game on forums your job is worthless and your a shill.

If someone does that for free as a full time hobby I think it's obvious they need help.

I'm talking about making 1 post wonder throw away accounts and making it look like dozens/hundreds of people all love/hate whatever is the marketing target. It's just thread inflation.

I don't think anyone's getting bent out of shape. It's just slightly annoying, because it decreases the value of sites like Metacritic. As for 10/10s, well, at least they don't disrupt the average rating as much.

Still, you have to wonder. If I were hell-bent on worsening a game's reputation, I'd post 7/10 or 6/10 reviews, because they look at least somewhat credible. If I look at the reviews of a game that's obviously at least decent, I take note of the ones that call it mediocre and ignore various 0/10s completely.

Mostly people look at the overall average to which a 0/10 will bring down lower/faster. I personally read the actual posts (to some degree) to see if there are glaring discrepancies (in my measurement of the overall percentages) that make me question the numbers.

Just one of those threads that made me regret reading it after I finished.

I'm sure people do get payed to promote things in subtle and dishonest ways and I have seen plenty of GW2 fans promoting it like that but that doesn’t mean it’s anymore or any less a reality than people badmouthing GW2 because a rival company is paying them. Actually! Come to think of it, people badmouthing GW2 because they are getting payed is less likely to be happening than people promoting it because they are getting payed.

Anyway help other people see past all the crap that might be happening with good reasoning, logic and patience rather than fuel flamewars with unproven and unfounded suspicions about immoral behaviour.
