I've been reading that you need to have one ranged weapon in GW2 but since I avoid betas like the plague (last one I was in was FF14, that is my luck with them) which melee option is better overall?

Always depends on one's style or at least in this game and what you are seeking to do. If you mean levelling I have found greatsword the best because the aoe is a godsend in dynamic events. So basically I prefer greatsword and long bow in this situation. Dual axes is also very good but it doesn't have the mobility that greatsword provides. Dual swords is alright but I found it lackluster (which agitates me because I prefer swords to axes) to greatsword or dual axes.

Thanks for the reply. Greatsword sounds fine for PvE. What are good support skills that mesh with it and a rifle?
Also, what's good for PvP? |

I use so far greatsword and rifle with my warrior, but mainly because I personally like those (and I got a really cool whellock rifle skin from HoM, I really like them) and so far it seems good. Then again, 90% of my time so far have been for my thief so I might change that as I play. It really is a personal preferance, neither choice is really better. |

Im really enjoying playing my warrior with dual axe and longbow. Started with dual axe and rifle but found rifle to be too limiting as all skills are 1 target only. I played around with several different weapon combos including dual axe/greatsword, dual axe/rifle, sword+warhorn/rifle, hammer/dual axe etc etc and found dual axe/longbow to be the most fun and efficient at killing! Dual axe gives you some nice moves and easy ways to build adrenaline with the melee range AOE, and eviscerate is awesome Lonbow gives you ranged AOE and a bit of control. Works well in PVE and WvW I got with bolas for an immobilise, for great justice for fury and might buff, and shake it off to remove conditions and stun Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom |

After leveling up and experimenting with many weapons I went to sword and board and have a nice build that I will take from level 41-60, then will reevaluate the situations and new builds for pvp and pve. So far the bleed, crit, precision, with a little bit of power and healing has been nicely balanced with the mobility skills for pvp and usually use signets and such for pve. I also play with an elementalist and an engineer. it's cool how there is no wrong way to play warrior, unless you don't play it like you love it.

While you should always have a ranged option in your inventory, there is no need to keep it equiped all the time. You're better off looking wether you've got a strong AoE and a strong single target option on you. My personal preferred choice is greatsword + sword/axe most of the time(well, overkill on the AoE, but that's a preference), longbow + greatsword in large events, rifle for bosses.

Originally posted by Winterclaw I think it's a common misconception that you're supposed to use a ranged weapon at range then melee up close. I'm in my 20s and have used a rifle almost exclusively. When they get close I hit 5 and gunbutt them back. It's great fun.
Hell, in that same vein I heard the #1 build for an Elementalist is 2H sword? That's crazy awesome.

If you watch a game, it’s fun. If you play it, it’s recreation. If you work at it, it’s FF-XIV. |

SnS & GS have many range closers. #2 jumps forward for instance, also you can get a bull rush and the greatsword has a spin forward and a running charge. Shortbows better imho thou then rifle for wvw cause it attacks more then single target.

As you probaly have seen urself a warrior has alot of gap closers and other neat stuff to get near and stay close at your oponents.
I personally go with greatsword and sword+axe and have no problem. |

I dont do anything other than solo pve atm, i dual wiel axes and use a rifle, Only reason i didnt wanna use a greatsword is coz most warriors use it, but if u guys reckon its better than dual axes ill give it a go. |
