I agree that some well placed siege weapons and some preparedness in this game make for great equalizers vs the "zerg". One time in beta I took over a lumber camp myself and singlehandedly upgraded it. I also enlisted NPC help from some local ogres by completing their event and then I sat there with a ballista and waited. Three times a group of 20-30 enemies tried to come at me but with my trusty ballista and some NPC guard help I wiped them 3 times. They eventually gave up and beat me with boredom.

It is all just zerging, unless you fight in lower numbers. I don't think you can get away from this with the number of people fighting.

Originally posted by ajayazir This is the type of post I don't understand. WvW is freaking HUGE. If you complain about being in a zerg, it's YOUR fault. If you think you will take a castle solo, then i'm sorry but the MMO genre is not for you. Zergs happen, it's common, that's fine. But when people complain about them, it's a fail on their part. It's SO easy to go and WvW in a small man. Staff Ele and Scepter Focus mesmer. Thats the combo I ran in BWE's, and we killed probably 20-30 people before we died. not all at once, but all within 30 minutes, maybe 40. there are four maps with players fighting in the game just about at all times on my server, if you are zerging thats your stupidity and just shows you how you follow the herd everywhere. We spent the entire day yestarday on our shard 5 maning a orb of power and running it solo , pissing off our server because we wouldnt listen to what the loud mouth wanna be leaders would say to do. We had a blast ganking and small skirmish fights avoiding the zerge and was well rewarded for the effort with about 4 levels and plenty of silver and karma. Some of you need to seriously learn to play without a herd mentality or just go spvp where everyone is equal...

I really don't see how in this game a few can win against a zerg (like was possible in Warhammer). There is a thing that make impossible for a few players to win against a lot of player and it is the need to go near every enemy in downed state to finish it. Even if u can kill an enemy doing to him tons of damage when he is in downed state , this will make impossible to play something like "guerrilla warfare" Only with siege weapons u can finish players fast and without going near and i think this is really a big problem for the players like me that are looking to something different than zerg vs zerg Atm GW2 is a zerger's heaven |

Check my recent highlights. Small premade group of 5-10 [TSho] with heavy experience in DAoC RvR and Shadowbane. We're running around as level 8-32 in WvWvW.
No matter the size of the zerg, coordination will prevail in the overall picture. Team makeup is key most of the time, but we've been running ragtag group for now, not our sPvP groups, and we were able to dominate despite being overwhelmed purely because of coordination and somewhat good calls hahaha.
Enjoy! |
