Sry, bro. League of Legends and other arena PvP games as well as every freaking FPS multiplayer before they started adding levels have proved conclusivly that people don't need a "goal" when killing each other. It's just fun.
P.S. There was suppsoed to be a quote here... its a rebuttal to anyone who thinks PvP needs a "goal" or what they really mean is where is the grind? |

2 things I like in gw2 PvP:
1. No gear grind 2. Its much harder to die |

Personal opinion of course, but i actually think the PvP is the weakest part of this game. It is okay, but nowhere near as fun as I've had in previous MMOs like DAoC, PS, Shadowbane, etc. |

Originally posted by dynamicipftw Hey I'm open to discussion, by all means tell me what you think is better and why. Why do you think that gw2's pvp is bad by any means?
Originally posted by bobfish Ah I love DAoC, personally I think WvW more then brings back the magic of that game for me at least. I didn't play shadowbane enough to make a real comparison on that but it didn't seem to great to me. And I think PS2 might give it a run for it's money. If WoW was released today even in its' entirety it would be f2p in 3 months. |

Nice sum up of few cons and many pros, OP! Hehe glad to see you were converted. :) Two days ago I survived FIVE enemies in WvW with a Mesmer for three minutes! It may not sound like much, but trust me, 3 min when being attacked by 5 players is a heck of a long time, when you are within their reach with no place to actually flee. I wanted to distract them for my fellow players. I created to many damn clones, swapped around and stuff, it was really exciting, this heroic moment you maybe have once in a month! Those 3 mins were just enough time for my friends to conquer the base behind them. That alone sold me the PVP and the Mesmer class (against my previous plans!), and showed me the awesome potential of this game. I was tempted to yell "KAGE BUNSHIN NO JUTSU" lol Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! Blessed be thy speccs, as in WOW so in all MMOs! Our daily loot grant us, and forgive us our noobness, as we forgive the noobs! And do not lead us to disconnects, But deliver us from mediocrity, For thine is the specialization and the teamwork and the endgame, Until cancellation, Amen! |

I want an mmorpg where pvp matters, my enemies are not my race or class, and community matters. |

Originally posted by Fratman Agreed. It all sounds nice on paper this week - but coming from Dark Age of Camelot where 10 years later pvp is still the best in the genre - I always have a reason to pvp. If you are attacking our relics - you affect our entire realm - a level 1 guy gets more coin, does more melee damage or more magic damage in pve depending on what relics we own, examples being Excalibur, Thor's Hammer, the Spear of Lugh - for strength bonuses - how cool is that?
I'm glad some folks are seeing better pvp - most people these days don't know what DAoC even is (Blame EA) so for them - this is the best the mmo genre has to offer.
Personally, I'm experienced as a gamer to realize that no matter how much these titles try to force feed us fake lore, you cannot tell me that killing my own races and classes in an mmorpg is as cool as getting to fight races and classes that are different from mine.
In Dark Age of CAmelot, I will never kill my own class or race - we like to call that developer created "Realm Pride." It is truly a game of us vs them vs them. GW2 is you vs you vs you - your Char ranger vs their Char ranger vs their Char ranger - how unimaginative is that? And we all know which is simpler to program - developers love keeping mmorpgs simple nowadays in order to fit the challenge level of the community (or so they try to tell us).
Why, in a time when movies and books depict completely different cultures going to war, am I force fed that it's lore acceptable to fight people who are the same as me? Imagine if Tolkien was a modern day developer - who the hell would have cared about the same 5 races beating on the same 5 races? B O R I N G and not epic. Oh well, welcome to today.

haha couldn't help it man, the game is just too epic. And wow being able to stand with that many attackers as a mesmer is impressive. Mind-fucked em with a crapload of clones eh? xD and I gotta agree, the difference of bad players and good players is too a level I've rarely seen, Games with such extreme skill caps will always make for the best PvP.
So it's not good because it's not race vs race? The pvp doesn't stack up just because as a charr you may fight other charr? I'm sorry but that makes absolutely no sense to me. In what way does that ditract from everything else that the PvP is? You still have realm pride but it's server pride which I find much more important. I've actually seen alot of server rivalry and the game isn't even a week old. And I used to love the hell out of DAoC, WvW definately brings the magic of that game back to life for me. I'm still confused how you can shut down the PvP simply for the lore side of it. If WoW was released today even in its' entirety it would be f2p in 3 months. |

"Best PvP I've Seen... Ever." Sounds like a commercial. I know you guys are thrilled after years of waiting, but c'mon ! :) There are lots of people who were interested only in team pvp and would prefer implementing old GvG with guild ladder - like me! It was the best feature of the game for me (I spent most of my time in GW1 playing GvG - played PvE for like one week tops) and without it this game feels just empty in the long run. Assembling the team, talking about strategy, trying to figure what build the enemy has, assigning roles before GvG match and finally the battle itself with splits, duels, protecting the flag or defending your lord - that was awesome! I miss the good old days. That's only my opinion and you can fully disagree :) palmiarnia.info |

I don't like pvp but I like GW2 pvp. Even though Jade Quary owns everything 95% of the time there has been afew fun battles.
This isn't a signature, you just think it is. |

Originally posted by Fratman People are still playing Counterstrike. Sure, the gear and titel rewards are nowhere near most other games but it do have its advantages as well. I only PvP for adrenaline myself and games that gives out too large rewards for PvP usually suck with adrenaline since I have to grind them to be able to have fun and grinding is boring. People are way too used to kindergarden mentality when everybody gets a cupcake for just being there. I play for fun and that is its own reward, grinding gear just kills that joy. All that said, GW2 will need to add more types of PvP to the game. I am sure they will though. |

I dont know.. I like the game but I cant say its the best PvP ever or even the best combat not when so much of it is centered around AoE.

Well OP i really like the way you actually put the effort int odescribing WHY you like it so much,i commend thee.Usually i just see nonsense threads that toss out vague comments and give nothing to prove their point. IMO there is only one bad idea and it is of course to each their own and that is the downed state.I don't like it at all and perhaps is a bad enough idea to wash all the good points away. Look at it like this...imagine you are ina military battle and your companion gets shot in the leg.Now with tons of fire going on around you,are yopu going to waltz out into the open and stand over him for a length of time to help him? You see OP you made a valid point in "you should never be standing still in PVP" yet guess what you are doing in the downed state? Other than that ,i agree with most of your points to making pvp good.Weather they are actually good for my type of pvp is another question but at least i do see your point of views and they make sense. http://www.youtube.com/user/Napolianboo#p/u/15/rCYLLQCNc1w |
