Totally worth the wait, level 37 here and it is a blast. The only reason I'm here posting now is that the servers went down for another update :P I'm getting similar feelings of awe like when I played Baldur's Gate, the first Gothic, and Morrowind. This is something fresh, brave and extremely addicting. Can't seem to stop going forward, like in a rollercoaster, behind every hill there is a new adventure. I can hardly believe there are 43 levels ahead of me + so many other races and classes and WvW and PvP :O THis all comes from a burnt out MMO gamer, I realyl put all on this one bet and it looks like it paid off :) Well time to check if the game's back online ^^

The first game in a very long time that gave me that feeling at the back of my head which almost made me feel giddy. It truly is a great achievement and proves that when you make a game with an intent to make a labour of love rather than a shallow cash grab the results speak for themselves. The home cities alone put all other mmo's since WoW to absolute shame. You can truly tell that the same people that helped craft vanilla WoW's world have brought their same talents to Tyria. It is an amazingly pretty game and feels handcrafted. My mind just boggles at all the content this game delivers for a single box price. If Anet can maintain their promise of regular content updates then I think this will be the next big thing for a lot of players old and new. Time will tell if they can deliver on that final promise, but considering they've exceeded every other promise thus far I have little reason to doubt them at this point. Right now their website says "Arenanet is hiring". Been a long time since I've seen an MMO company do that right after launch and hopefully this is a sign of great things to come from this game and this developer. |

If they allowed as many people as wanted to be on a single server on that single instance of the game then the average user would have unbarable lag due to to many particle effects, the other reaason is if you put to many people on the same map the experience is less enjoyable. it simply become too crowded. And i personally feel that the overflow is an innovative way to remove queues. Do you think the iPhone was inventive cause most people do even though they took alot of what they did from other sources. The main difference between the iPhone and its predecessors was they put everything together in a way that was simple and actualy worked and for that they deserve all the praise they are given. ANet really isnt any different. |

Well worth the wait, and the hype didn't ruin it (like it happens with many). No kill stealing, no resource hogging, no ninja looting. Great Art amd ambience, alot of details in each area, the cities are amazing. Good combat, getting xp for doing what you like (exploring, crafting, pve, pvp). A pretty good personal story (so far, only lvl 27). The dinamic event system coupled with the delevel of a character to the zone you're in can mean alot of fun without annoying/bothering low levels. So far a pretty amazing game, can't wait to see all the zones.

Originally posted by ZeGerman This is typical, you think something in GW2 is innovative, and you have no idea that it was used fairly often before. Overflow servers were used for the first time 10 years ago already in a MMORPG. Nothing innovative about it. In fact, there are server technologies that would allow all players to be on the same server, technically, while multiplying itself whenever a cap of the zone is reached. REALITY CHECK |

ArenaNet is done an outstanding job. The game feels good, the weapon/utility/elite skills and traits with standardized Boons/Conditions (I think Magic: The Gathering keywords here), and amazing delivery system of dynamic events and personal story, this game could be a major success. But that still remains to be seen, there is the almighty 1st month that every MMO experiences. Of course, this game does not have a subscription so this might be harder to quantify. Also, I see some potential staying power in how the developers took the time to create tools to add/modify DEs to their world. And I only see future zones containing entire zone wide DEs for pushing/pulling various events. About the posts about WvWvW, the only thing I can say is they will continue to refine their efforts. I did not participate in the Closed Beta and unaware of their current and future design plans but I can easily see ArenaNet making small/large changes to fix the issues plaguing it. MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit. |

Originally posted by Ozmodan Leveling is never a challenge in any MMO, it is purely a time sink and ANet know this, so they provided lots of options to level at a reasonable place. Yes this can be exploited by funneling lots of resources and crafting. But to what end? You certainly dont win the game by being level 80. The game is about exploring and being part of the world. The challenges lie in dungeon exploration modes and PvP, not the challenge of not falling asleep on your way up to max level. Most casual gamers wont reach level 80 in their first month, hard core players will always level much much faster than anyone else and you simply cannot cater to them. |

Max level there was 20 and there wasn't half as many things to do as there is in GW2. It lives mostly because of the best PvP there ever was in such type of games and good elite dungeons. Things won't be any different in GW2. There is enough to do in this game UNLESS you really have no intention of touching the pvp along with your friends. But in that case i really don't know why would you even buy this game. On top of that, if Anet continues their old habit with GW1, they will be bringing tons of new content alteast once every year... So yeah if you ask me, the game will live a long life. And so far most of the criticizm that i read on this forum was pretty obviously from people that didn't even take the time to look at the game carefully, see what it offers,... Those that didn't like the PvP were all just so obviously owned in random 8v8, they took no time whatsoever to try to understand how pvp works, make their own build that makes sense and learn to play it. Seriously I don't understand people that decide the game is either good OR bad just after playing for a few hours. Most of them just miss a whole bunch of stuff, make stupid conlcusions and stop playing. A logical conclusion from that to me is, that those kind of people like simple shallow games, that throw everything they have at you from the getgo. I decide if the game is good or not once I know everything there is to know about it. After a couple of months...

It's ok but nothing positively outstanding. Many events especially at the start are a real pain being stuck in the locust swarms of players. The story missions are dead boring compared to SW:ToR. I doubt this game will be even close to being as successful as many seem to think. Especially if ArenaNet won't finally get their act together. While some people had barely any issues others seemed to crash unable to log in for hours more than once. My biggest annoyance was the overflow instance stuff when trying to get into the same zone with my guild for some Roleplay. Of course the map on our home server was full so we get stuffed on overflow servers. Sadly I had to realize that despite zoning at the same time it can happen that your group gets spread on different overflow servers. This stuff really has to go. |

Ozmodan,
You think this game will gail coize it is "easy" to max level/hit the cap. Dude, this game is NOT about leveling. The concept is new and inovative. Even when you hit 80, your level will down when you go to a low level area. Even whenyou hit 80, there will be chalenge, wherever you go. This game is about exploration at most (in my opinion). There is tons of thinls to do, to explore, to discover and it will be chalenge... No boring combat, you must dodge, move, think... After complete every single think in queensdale (human initial area), i was in lvl 14. Then i move tothe norn Initial area, and even the lvl 2 quests there was ie to do, couze my lvl was reduced to 4... So, dont talk about hit cap level, it means nothing. Understand the new concept, balanced pvp where everyone has the same itens, level and posibilities... No grind, no rush and no subscription model... And sory for the bad english/gramar, not my first language and im in a mobile... |

I can appreciate a well made game, and GW2 is definitely very well made. Its just too bad this is what the mainstream considers a well made mmorpg. Glad so many people are having fun. But its pretty much the exact opposite of what I look for in an mmorpg these days. Themepark is not a sub genre, its an excuse. |

GW2 is fun. I like it. It'll do.
But I would have preferred a brand new campaign for GW1, frankly, as I liked the general format of the earlier game better. Having played GW2 for a few days now, I can still say I liked the format of GW1 better.
I have never played SWG, but I'm starting to understand the disappointment expressed by SWG players when they tried out SWTOR: two games with the same IP, but nevertheless totally different games. |

Originally posted by Ozmodan I don't understand what leveling has to do with being challenging. I have never played an MMO where leveling was challenging. I have played MMO's that have ridiculous leveling curves and lots of ridiculous grinding before. Is that what you mean by challenge...these games give you a challenge of trying to stay in front of the screen doing the same thing over and over to make a bar go up. I will say that this is the first MMO I have played where I really didnt care about leveling. Anet didn't set the game up where you have to prove your dedication before you get to do something interesting in the game. If there is a problem with this game, it's that there is too much stuff to do. Getting to level 80 so quickly is of little consequence. It's fun for the people involved to say they did it, but has absolutely no effect on the game or other players. |

As a fan of all forms of online gaming since the 90-ies I can safely say that this is the best game I ever played.
