Okay so I know not everyone will like GW2...but I do, and I'm sure many other people do as well.  So I wanted to start a thread for all of those who love GW2 to share their really fun experiences with the rest of the community here :).  So please post any awesome experience that you had in GW2 that really embodies why you like/love the game.  I'll be putting mine in the second post here...

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

This experience is a tiny spoiler for the Queensdale zone, so if you are mega spoiler conscious...reader beware.

Anyway, I was wandering around Queensdale the other day and I found some cave with a locked door.  There was a sign next to the door that said:

"Only truly threatening people may enter."

I tried getting in a few ways...looked for lever, attacked the door, jumped around randomly.  But it didn't open, so I just left figuring it was for some DE that wasn't going on or something.

Anyway, I randomly came back to the door later and there was another player there trying to get in by jumping up and down and attackng the door much like me.  Then...it hit me.  I typed "/threaten" and sure enough, the door opened lol.  The other player was basically flabbergasted because he tried to open the door for like 2 minutes, then I just walk up and yell and it opened...I told him he just wasn't threatening enough for the door to open yet lol :).

So we both wound up teaming up and killing the big monster inside the cave...then I hung out by the door on the inside of the cave and watched a bunch of other players try to hit the door in a futile attempt to get in while doing /laugh.  Never saw anything like that in an MMORPG before.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

I'm loving it so far.

I'm loving the skills via weapons and discovering new combo's etc. I'm really enjoying the combat, very nice pace and lot's of action. I dig the scenery and overall mood in the areas I've been in. I really like how you can go anywhere and have something to do. You find a cave, run in and the quest will present itself unlike some other games I've played where you specifically have to have a quest first, which sends you there. Now, I'm just exploring and having lot's of things to do in the area. Not because I was made to go there, just because I'm there. It's a good feeling.

More to come as I only had a few hours to play so far. Overall, I'm a pretty happy camper.

Facts do not require fiction for balance.

A little thing really... the Pirate Cave in Lions Arch. You jump in the mouth cavern and fall... (I found it simply by following someone else that seemed to know where they were going), and if you're lucky you hit the pool of water at the bottom and live. I wasn't lucky. However, I immediately got a rez then myself and two others completed the challenge. Later I brought my kids there so they could see it. Once again, I went splat but my son lived. He rezzed my daughter and I and we started to go in when I heard that scream behind. I took a look, one dead person. Rezzed him and off we went.

Missed opportunities for people to be asses to each other. I don't think it crossed anyones mind. You help someone, then you go on together and tackle the challenge.

Oderint, dum metuant.

Yeah I agree, I've had the same experience with people working together and generally being nice.

A bunch of random players and myself were trying to climb Dreamdark Enclave (jumping puzzle), and we would always try to rez people that fell so they didn't have to go up Morgan's Spiral again.  We wound up even forming a group and taking a screenshot when we all make it to the top :).

I don't get all the posts of people saying the community is horrible...just don't see it.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

I have been taking it easy and enjoying my time in the game. Do wish there was more Jute drops and grouping issue needs to be hotfixed and fast.

The one thing I hate in MMOs is playing solo even if I can because I just like being grouped with my friends.

Last night farming in lower zones I was able to help smaller groups with the harder DEs when I was running around so they could get it completed. That was enjoyable and still gives you rewards.

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft' might win, by fearing to attempt

8/27/12 11:55:09 AM#8

So many reasons.

Where to start?

The little details! The footprints left behind by players as they run. The bare feet getting dirty as they run. The way the ui changes per situation like the edges getting darker when deeper underwater, etc... the weather system looks great. The little marking on everything, trees with carvings on them, trails with wagon marks on them, bridges with groves cut into them from traffic, horseshoe prints near centaur areas, falling face first if you take enough fall damage, debris falling off rock faces and such when you are scampering along ledges, the sounds of the footfalls changing on every object and even different sounds for running in different depths of water, etc...

I love the lack of direction, the feeling of free exploration. I love the size of the world, the scale of it around me. I love the varied landscapes and the hand painted feel tot he world. The swamp, the forests, the mountains, the plains, the ocean, it all feels alive and unique to itself.

I love the underwater combat, the sounds and the animations. I thought I would hate the weapon swapout for aqua, but I love it.

I love the loot. So far this game has really surprised me with the loot. It's been not only great in helping build my strength, but awesome looking to boot.

I love the map tracking for clearing maps. The explorer in me is consumed by this detail.

I love the WvWvW, tech issues aside, it's the closest we've ever had to old school camelot, and that was my favorite end game of any mmorpg to date. Fro mwhat I've played of WvWvW here, it's amazing. The size and scale of the maps, the goals and objectives, it's all there.

I love that the racial starting areas feel so different from each other. I have played all of them now and really love each one for different reasons!

I loev the conquest feeling of PvE. The events that cause areas to be contested and when we win the over we actually spawn merchants and guards!  The way the world changes with DE's! I was trying a jumping puzzle in the sylvari area last night and I fell from the top, when I recovered and tried again I found that an event had killed the tree I had been jumping on! The leaves were now dead and saggy and I couldn't even attempt it anymore. That's wickedly cool to me! Eventually, 12 - 20 minutes later, I was doing an escort and had no idea while doing but it eventually led to that very spot and the escort somehow saved the tree. It came back to life and i was able to work on the jumping puzzle again. 25 minutes later I made it to the top and there was a chest full of awesome loot! I saw so many people raining fro mteh sky during that! Felt like old Kelethin in EQ1 :)

Back to small details, I've seen owls flying by and landing nearby. Eagles. Parrots and various other bird types. I've seen bugs crawling around, bees buzzing by, etc.. It all just adds up to a great experience for me. I laid down on a bunker bed in a tower and after a few moments I began snoring. Stuff like that.

I love the art style, the hand painted look of it all, the brushstrokes.

Too many reasons really. I simply love this game very much.

at work so hard to write out a long story on my phone and when i get home Ill be in game but frozen maw event was a ton of fun last night.. also did some keg brawl fun stuff:) amount of little touches and details in this game is amazing.. just take a stroll around any major city and you can see it.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

Consistent entertainment. Done right, you can go from a DE, to gathering, to exploring. Then you can throw in PvP when you want, all on the fly.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

There are too many things to list -- but definitely if you are an explorer, you're probably loving the game like I am.

***potential spoiler below***

Right now I'm really loving the little explorable / puzzle / caves that they've put into some of the zones.  For example the one in Queensdale -- they're like explorable caves, with jumping puzzles woven into them, little bits of trash fights that you might otherwise find in a more conventional instanced dungeon, then tough mobs at the end with good chest rewards.  So great to find stuff like that just in the regular environment.  I tried to attack the queensdale one this morning but wiped doing it solo, so grouped up with a gaurdian, and the two of us just barely cleared it.  Had such a great time for about 1.5 hours.

So I am in the wayfarrer region looking for research materials for my armor/weapon smith(farming). I needed Jute and I figure Jotun were a good bet for the drop. So i find that Jotun camp and start killing them 2,3,4,5, at a time. I also during respawn down time start reading my skill definitions and what they do. Combat in this game is a good bit diff than past games where you just spam 1,2,3, repeat.

I am a bodacious female Gardian. (Green and red armor(looks snazzy) COLORS CAN BE CHANGED ANY TIME YOU LIKE.

I've found that it is possible to survive attacks of numerous mobs if you pay attention. So my tactic was to activate my primary weapon skill(1) then start straifing and using other skills at opertune moments. During one of these fights (using my mace)I noticed I got some sort of combo for what I didn't know(which is why i started reading my skill info) as it turns out my weapon skill 2 generates a field (light) that sets up combos and heals me at the same time(BONUS). So now when I want to generate more damge and need healing I will cast  skill 2 then use my power attack for more damage. plus anyone launching an attack through my light field will also get the benefits from it.

Combat in this game is more about stick and move than spamming attack keys. if you are a static target you will die very fast.

If you die alot move more spam less. Also learn to use all your weapon types. I have found they are all usefull dependant on the mob.

I'm going to say that I've seen some really supportive and friendly behavior from the GW2 players in the game. It's so clear to me how GW2 has managed to bring the community together by creating the right tools to encourage team play.

Archaic concepts like kill stealing and loot stealing are such an -enormous- detriment to a multiplayer game that isn't themed around some kind of  gritty survival realism. I enjoy survival realism games tremendously (concepts like DayZ or permadeath MUDs like Armageddon MUD), but that's a different type of game. The theme park genre of MMO needed the kind of change that GW2 brings to it, modernizing the genre. I personally feel GW2 does quite a bit wrong (such as amateur-quality writing/acting with the storylines, overly complex crafting for making static items), but the game's hammer blow against the traditional walls that hindered instictive team play and community building is one awesome move that I hope we see other MMOs begin to clone (and evolve) through the years.

I'd also like to add that for all the negative feedback the "downed state" got before game release, I have to say that the downed state has really done a ton for encouraging players to help each other. This mechanic is as much a team building tool as it is just a plain combat mechanic. It does more than just offer a "second chance" from a code perspective. It lets people come to the rescue in the nick of time to save someone before its too late - a feeling that a lot of people enjoy and instictively find themselves doing. It's amazing how often players will choose helping a fallen player even when it's not always the wisest thing to do. The behavior I am seeing in the last few days can only be described as selfless heroism in the face of death. It's really a shock to me, and I'm still trying to put it all together. And if you want to argue that the death penalty is not harsh enough to make death something to be afraid of, and so of course everyone will try to be a hero to rescue other players, then I ask.. is that really such a bad thing? Does it hurt the game to have people throwing themselves in the way with shields to protect their friends, and risk death by dodging through a mob of enemies and AoE to reach a player who is about to die? If a weak death penalty encourages this kind of heroism from players, it's hard for me to see the negative side to it.

What i like the most is that you actually gain from playing with other people, in usual mmo you learned to hate other people interfering into your gaming, it's the opposite with GW2.

World > Quest Progression

8/27/12 12:27:26 PM#15
I love that there are so many things to do that are worth doing. I progress fairly slow but I'm having fun the whole time and find myself redoing the same content because things pop up while I'm trying to do something else.

I haven't even touched Crafting or PvP yet. Both of which I really look forward to.

The f-r-e-e-d-o-m.  What a breathe of fresh air when I can log into a game and just do what I want.  I love running around and just learning about my starter area.  First time in an MMO I enjoy just walking around when normally I'd be constantly checking my map to find the next area to go to.  Ill get there when I get there.

I love the fact that I feel like something is always going on.  The game is not waiting for me to do something.  I love the casual grouping.  Typically I'm a solo player. I love the ability to see someone in trouble and just help out.  No interface administration to take me out of the game.

I love how combat feels more comfortable the more I do it.  Finally making grinding fun.  I love the in depth crafting which I havent even started yet.  I love the detail of the world and the sounds.  I play with headphones and the audio is just a treat. I love how there are other non-combat things to do but are not boring.

I love that I can die.  I am typically immortal in MMOs rarely dying especially in starter zones.  While in GW2 I have died countless times.  Nothing like getting into a mob fight down to the end. Both have little health. You are downed and then to have that last minute rally to get out of there.  So engaging.

I was in the Asura starter zone.  One of my krew asked me to test the IQ of these mouse looking Skritt.  I walk up to one and begin to tell him different pieces of intellectual information at which point they cant take it and pass out.  I couldnt stop laughing! And I got XP for it. =D

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this.

My favourite single experience so far was, after finishing a jumping vista in Lion's Arch, I saw a cave in the shape of a devil's maw a little way off that led deep into the mountain. A crowd of folks were gathered around it, obviously wondering what it was... the slope down into the dark looked like sure death if there was anything harder then water at the bottom.

Saying 'who dares wins', I ran through the group and launched myself into the mouth, even hearing a stranger cheer me on as I slid down...

I won't spoil the rest for those who haven't done this yet :)

I am having more pure FUN in this game then any in the last 8 years.

Well. I'm probably the slowest leveler on earth and I can say that I'm loving it so far. I loved running around Divinity Reach just trying to find every spot while enjoying all of the artwork and incredible vistas. It is the nicest MMO city I have ever seen.

I didn't understand until yesterday how the weapon swapping works and I absolutely love it as it gives my Necro 3 different builds for short range, med range, and long range depending on the situation. LOVE IT lol.

I love that the combat feels a little more realistic instead of the typical WOW game where a spell is fired a dice is rolled to determine the hit or miss. I like that there is dodge and a limit to what can and cannot hit you in many cases.

I love the way you come out of the water and the underwater changes in general.

Love that I am playing with so many people on what feels like mini raids :-). The fact that I experienced some dynamic events that were non heart related in a level 4 areas was pretty cool :-).

I'm starting to warm a little to the personal story, but I think they should have implemented this better instead of a cutscene that feels like you are playing a game on your iphone at times. I wish just the personal story was more like the way SWTOR did it.

I just love the way it feels. Sometimes you just can't put your finger on it, but the world feels like it has some soul to it..at least so far..that I didn't feel as much with SWTOR, AOC, Vanguard, Aion,  Rift, etc. Only my first experience with WOW (my first MMO) and the 1 1/2 years I played with LOTRO (which were my favorite movies) compare. The game just has that special charm. Maybe its the music coupled with the fantastic visuals, maybe because it just feels different, but so far it just feels right.

I like that the customization is much better than I experienced with SWTOR. Same with the graphic options as they are more than with SWTOR.

I'm also warming to the way points. At first I thought it would feel like a kiddy game and less realistic without horses, but I'm finding that I do enjoy not having to run back and forth across Divinity Reach as much as I love looking around. The sacrifice of realism with distance doesn't feel as much like a sacrafice as I thought it would be.

Love that you add someone to your friends list and it sees all of their characters so you don't have to add each one individually as it is tied to the Master Account.

Love the /wiki command hehe.

Love that the UI at release is more customizable than SWTOR was at release as far as moving boxes around the screen.

Love all those little things like the NPC chatter (some of which is funny), the fact that a lot of NPCs move around, things flying in the air for realism, the detail of the artistry, etc.

I like that you can visit any major city at low levels....at least I think you can. :-)

I like that one toon can be in multiple guilds at the same time, though I have no need for that yet...but I like the option.

I like the day night cycles and swimming which I didn't think was a big deal in SWTOR until I started to miss them lol.

I like the class choices. One of my biggest complaints about LOTRO as much as I loved that game is that at release, I couldn't really find a class I liked, so I chose Hunter which was close to a mage in WOW. However, the eventually released a RuneKeeper which was more to my Mage liking :-). In fact, with the holy trinity removed kind of, I see myself choosing classes I have never played before, like a Thief.

On the negative side, I do think they should make it more obvious the game is about exploring as it really does emphasize for beginners the heart quests, even circling them when chatting to an NPC...and it may turn people off who don't realize that is not the majority of the content.

I also hate that with the Overflow its difficult to queue with friends, however, I've found that if you party with someone, both go into Divinity Reach at the same time and then leave Divinity Reach, that you have a good chance of being in the same overflow together lol.

The game is off to an awesome start. I hope I feel this way 3 months from now.

Wow...I saw that door too but I never ever imagined something like that.. Unbelivable.

This game is simply great.

Here's one that I'm actualy trying to do but haven't had any luck.

In Queensdale too. There is a boy that will be bragging about the Divinity Heroes or something.

So he asks you to prove that you do know about the Divinity heroes but first you need to find the "hideout" or something.

You'll go exploring and find a hidden cave where some kids are playing. But be prepared you'll have answer the quiz about the heroes.

If you have read the Edge Of Destiny or know the Guild Wars lore well you'll know the answers.

:P
