Originally posted by xalvi I wonder why ¨play just for fun¨ didnt work in all these years of MMO history?, I mean we have so many developers and companies who have worked in a longterm endgame content and ways to keep the players ¨playing¨ their games, but the answers was, ¨forget everything, just play for fun¨, amazing. GW2 is a casual MMO, easy like that, if you wanna play the game like any other MMO, you´ll get bored pretty fast, and thats why probably after less then a mounth we will find these forums full of people talking ¨there is not endgame¨, ¨im already bored, coming back to WoW, or swtor, or Rift etc¨.

First of all, no one is going to hunt you (or at least they shouldn't). GW2 is going to be one of those games you either LOVE or HATE, with a rare few in between. I believe the OP cannot see the point to playing GW2 because it is not setup in the way he is 1) used to or 2) likes to play a game. Its obvious if you are the type of gamer who needs a well understood goal or reason that you will not like GW2, simply because they game is not built that way. What GW2 does offer is an environment for you to FIND YOUR OWN FUN. A strong requirement that really hasn't been introduced in the MMO scene (at least not in my tenure playing). To counter your argument... I dont NEED a goal to have fun in a game. I like the fact that I can log in and do whatever I want. Run to a new area, do some DEs, take a stab at crafting, go hunting for mats, and do trading (in the future since its down right now). The best part for me, is there is more connection to the world the more you stop moving and pay attention to the detail (the sidebars the NPCs have, following a character). I'll even admit that its difficult! Its so EASY to find a DE in progress, join in, perform some support abilities and get some XP and then run off to go somewhere else. I literally have to force myself to hang around to see what happens next. And nine times out of ten I get to do something more fun than if I tried to find it on my own. How many examples like this are there?? Where are they?? How do I find them?? Its that exploratory aspect that I love about GW2 and is missing in the titles you mentioned (EQ2, Rift, Wow) etc. It doesnt make them bad games or one better than the other. Just a different experience which for one I feel is great to at least have an option. I am Gamer. Play. Forever. |

Yesterday I found a couple of players struggling with a jumping puzzle/vista in Divinity's Reach. I had already completed this challenge, so I suited up in my street clothes (thank you Anet for the free baseball cap!) and told the frustrated players to follow me! I guided them through the jumping steps, got them to the vista, and we had a quick impromptu dance party at the Vista in celebration. The point of this post? GW2 is the FIRST MMO since UO that I have felt the desire to take my time doing this kind of stuff instead of being 100% concerned with rush rush to level cap and get new/better gear. That, to me my friends, is the point of playing GW2. MMO History: |

I played WoW for many years as a casual gamer. I didn't do raids... ever. I don't really care for them. People would come accross my character with my admittedly shitty gear and say... "why do you even play?, your gear sucks". My response was always that I was playing the game the way I wanted to play and I was having fun. Otherwise, I wouldn't be playing.
The funny thing is, how many people I knew/know playing games like WoW for the gear progression that aren't even having funny anymore. They log on in their raiding guild and try to get it over as fast as they can..lol. And now I ask them "why do you even play?"
It's all about fun. Or... it should be. If you need more then fun out of a video game, you should be asking yourself some more serious questions. |

The OP asks the same question a Disc Golfer asks of a hiker. Maybe a poor analogy, but it is mine. The OP wants a "more fullfilling MMO experiance". But gets told what the OP wants is not what the OP wants. Seriously? Almost every day I am exhorted to explain what I mean when I express or comence an action that shines light on my LIBERTARIAN ways. Here again I will do that. I'll call it my guide to being a Libertarian. Step 1. Do what you want to do without hurting others. Step 2. Be mature enough to allow others to do what they want as long as no harm is being done. Step 3. Be happy and at peace. |

That is what the internet and technology breeds, ecessive emotional reaction. I'm sure I'll play it and like it a lot, but won't have issues pointing out warts. Ferrari's could have better MPG and lower repair bills. (+1 to me for another car anology in a gaming thread!)

Originally posted by viturino There may be awesome dialogue that I havent found so far, but by and large he is right that the dialogue cutscenes are painfully lame. I turned dialogue sound off because I could not bear to hear it. I really dont see why it is so difficult for mmo's to have the dialogue quality of a game like Skyrim for example. |

Because, historically, MMOs needed a "loop" or Replayability. How many times are you going to repeat the same things over and over just because it's fun? I don't care what you do, doing the same thing the same way for the same reasons over and over will lose it's fun factor pretty fast. This is why the idea of an MMO for fun seems like a new idea. It's not new, it's just never been possible. Today's technology cannot create and keep that type of dynamic environment going indefinitely. That's why other MMOs weren't based around fun but rather around achieving objectives that mattered. They changed how you play. I'm not sure what mechanics are in place for GW2 to continue to make me want to continue to play this game indefinitely. The idea of exploring every nook and cranny of the world might be a reason, but for that to happen, all the DEs I come across better not carry the same overall "feel" to them. Anyway, for now, Yeah, GW2 is fun as hell. But lets see how far this train takes us. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

Just from the inital novel-length post, I'd say all you need to do is stop overthinking everything. But you have an awful lot of preference biases that you test games against. It's very possible that "go with your gut, this ain't the game for you" is the answer you're looking for. For some reason, this forum, and players posing the question, never finds that answer sufficient. |

mindless fun, that's why you play games like GW2. same as team fortress and CoD. when you want to just jump in have a few fights and log out. that's what this game is made for.
if you want deep mechanics with high risk pvp, intricate politics and a living persistant changable world you go play EvE or DF. those are game you "live in"..... in GW2 you plug in, have some quick fun, plug out.

There you have your reward, now be gone. Plz take a look to the other games out there and realize you have an mmo burnout. [CENTER] |

"The community is...non-existant? If you're standing around 100 people but no one says anything does that count as a community? I have yet to experience a situation where it is vital to communicate with another player for any reason."
Quoted from the OP. I had that same impression.
Up until now (level 16) the dialogues do feel painfully "school-play" amateurish.
I will persevere and push on to 30 as best as I can, maybe they'll get better.

Originally posted by Lydon I agree, what's the point to any game? I mean if we're going to tear it down to the parts, what's the point to life? Honestly, I am not sure what people are looking for. For myself it's all about entertainment and I am entertained. |

To kill the elder dragons and save the world? That's not a lofty goal worth achieving?

Pretty sure there're loads and loads of rewards in the game, just that they're all cosmetic. Seems to me the OP doesn't even know what he's talking about , and people who reply to this thread don't even read the post. |
